  1. I am interested on who is picking on whom in the aviary. Is it Laverne or shirley?I cannot see the boys behaving badly
  2. I am no expert, but babies are not that good at perching. get some tree branches that are big and varied sizes if possible so they can get some practice. the crouching is usually just trying to maintain balance. Give the little one time.
  3. Not sure about the Name Libby. I named my first TCB Norm and he died. Name might be cursed - no offense Norm - LOL
  4. your aviary set up is going ot be so great when it is up and going. I am so pleased for you ( and insanely jealous at the same time - ha ha ha). Looking forward to watching this thread as the journey continues
  5. no, it is not related to gender
  6. I am no expert. but I am not sure they are of show quality. The Rainbox lools like Golden Faced type 2 sky blue opaline spangle cock whilst the blue looks like an opaline sky blue cinnamon wing? both appear to be split to violet. i thought the grey in the 2nd last picture has a better looking "show head" then either of the 2 you are thinking of showing. maybe Kaz, Daz or other show breeders would offer better advice than me
  7. why only 2 weeks quarantine, not 4 weeks at least?
  8. Dave_McMinn replied to deb's topic in Aviaries
I agree with Norm. Put the bricks down, put wood around them to keep them grouped together, then throw a bag or two of cement over the top of them. it will be easier to clean, it will mean nothing can chew through it to get into the aviary, and it will prevent moisture rising up through it. I think maesie was doing something like that on here once, there is a thread. See if you can find it, that is what she did.
  9. This afternoon I moved Dad's Hugo and Nibbler, and young ones Sif, Heimdall, Baldr, Maika, Gwenievieve, Gabrielle, Mozzarella and Geo from the small aviary to the big aviary. Quite a culture shock for them, I am sure, with them now seeing so many other birds, where before they could only hear them. They will have to learn who is top dog in the aviary. I am sure that none of the young ones will take any rubbish from the older ones. They are all undergoing a 6 week treatment of Triple C in their water as well. Wilde, one of my newest, a green show bird, seems to have runny green poos and whilst I have tried a few things, Kaz suggested this. Thought I might do the whole lot at the one time, so everyone is getting a dosage. Means more work for me and no corn or spinach for a while, but at least they should all be healthier for it. I will take some new pics, but I think they will be posted under my flock now. This thread is effectively at an end now. Thank you to all the people who have contributed and watched the journey of my breeding pairs.
  10. i have seen the cubby house, and you are right Deb, that is a massive job. I think that it will be nicer though when you do move the cubby house. It will be better as well as the cubby house is a little raised and that corner would be the worst for flooding.
  11. Looking good Deb. I do understand your concern with them flapping into walls and the like. Since they have never been in an aviary with all that space, it can be a little daunting. Mine were like that when they went into my smaller avairy. They are joining all the other birds in the larger avairy late today, so that will be a bit of a shock for them. I am pleased to see they are all doing so well
  12. Looking forward to the individual pics. 4 green based dom pieds, 1 blue based dom pied, a opaline grey, a blue normal and a blue opaline? Is that right? Bigger pics will show i suppose. gee I am impatient - LOL
  13. That all sounds great Kaz. I am al ittle jealous of how you explain it. No no, that is a lie. I am VERY jealous.
  14. You might want to put some plastic eggs in there. It might convince her that she has eggs, as well as helping to provide some protection to the real eggs when they are layed. You can buy them from pet shops. Or you can use marbles.
  15. Reading this your post cara really makes me happy. I too am one of those people that has a hard time saying no to someone, person or animal, who seems in distress. I am pleased you saved Molly and I do look forward to those pics.
  16. i have seen photos of Mozzarella and Geo,i still find it amazing that Geo came from the same clutch because he looks so different from the others. i have a couple of bossy hens in the aviary so it will be interesting to see what happens when Laverne enters the aviary.i think there will be a bit of bickering while the pecking order is worked out. Geo does look like the odd little one out doesn't she? But then, all the girls are different. One YF type 1 sky blue cinnamon, one YF tpe 1 opaline violet cinnamon wing, and one golden face type 2 sky blue. Oh, and Geo is a she - LOL.
  17. Not sure he is an opaline, but I agree with the rest
  18. Her parents are a Golden faced type 2 cobalt blue/violet recessive pied cock and a blue/violet based fallow hen. Her parents are Cheese and Sebby and can be seen in this thread. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=17861
  19. Thanks Deb, they are cute. I am assuming you have seen pics of Mozzarella and Geo, their siblings that I kept. Laverne was always the boss, so good to see nothing has changed there. Remarkably she is the middle child, not the eldest.
  20. She is a beautiful looking bird. I already have one lightly similar, that is why I gave her to Deb. Cinnamon diffuses the colour, but she is definitely a violet.
  21. Thanks Kaz. Off the top of my head, 35 I think, maybe 36. 36, if I rembered everyone. Though there have been births, in 6 months I have lost Punter, Norm, Thor (flew away), Kim, Princess, and I gave 4 young ones to Deb, so a big turnover for such a little steup it seems.
  22. Well, i was wrong. It was not Mel who died, but her identical sister Kim, who had recently survived the toe biting incident. The other sad news was that the other bird was my beautiful little sky blue cinnamon winged Princess. Kim (top) with her father Princess Both of them after a swim
