  1. I am still going to say boys
  2. Great idea, putting the cabinets on castors. I might do that with mine when I repair them. Good work
  3. Their feathers look different from the back, so that has to be the way to tell them apart. Their sisters have all gone brown and crusty, well their ceres anyway, whilst these 2 have stayed. You have to remember that male recessive pieds will not turn blue but will remain is they are. The females will be lighter and turn white then brown, these 2 did not go through this stage. Until one is a crusty brown, I am going to say that since both are recessive pieds, both are male. When one lays an egg and has a crusty brown cere, I will admit I am wrong - LOL!!!!!
  4. I have had a similar situation in the past, and it depends on how good the mum and dad are of course. I say keep an eye on him, ensure he is getting the right amount of food. Nothing you can do at the moment anyway, so just watch and hope that all goes well.

hi and welcome to the forum.
  6. It is virtually impossible for us to determine what they died of. What condition were they in? If they are not in top condition, the stress can be too much. We cannot possibly determine if they had a viral infection or a pre-existing condition. If you had of taken them to an avian death within hours of their deaths they could have determined a cause of death, maybe allowing you to treat the rest of your aviary. regardless of what it was, i would remove all birds from breeding boxes, and treat them all for those standard illness
  7. good plan Neat. I can get the birds cheap from Kaz, then charge you guys extra to not only pay for mine but to also pay for the cost of transporting them all back. What a wonderful idea. I think its a goer - NOT!!!!!!! I could never do that.
  8. Not sure on the "give Dave a shopping list idea" - LOL!!!!!!!!
  9. Norm I m sure you have many quality birds. Nice to let some of us end up with a few if we are lucky.
  10. Thanks for the info NickNack. Sorry, I was just a bit confused. Strong personalities occur in all animals, from birds, to dogs, to people. I have a hen named Sebby who definitely thinks she is the boss. She picks on others, and it seems her daughter laverne, who Deb has, takes after her mother.
  11. Maybe I missed a post somewhere. So Saucy face was originally paired with a bird named Weebil. Unfortunately he passed away. You bought a new bird named Spanky. I am assuming you quarantined Spanky for 30 days minimum. In this time, Saucy would have heard him calling out. Now, quarantine is over, Saucy attacks Spanky, biting his feet and wanting to get at his toys? Do they share a cage? they are caged when? at night time?
  12. You are so right. I remember when you got the new aviary and I was the guy that went - how much did that all cost? Mayne it is not the moths that cause the cold, but rather a cold wind whipping through the empty canyon where all that money once was placed - LOL
  13. I get cold and nauseous at the end of a auction, when I have to open my wallet and depart with all my cash!! What Auction was this?? Up in Queensland? I would think that with all the moths flying out throwback the beating of so many little wings would generate enough cool air that you could die of exposure - LOL!!!
  14. If there is blood on the egg, she has obviously had some trouble passing it. Ensure that there is calcivet in her water or her seed. If she does not get enough clacium, he results for the next egg may be worse. The white bird, pink cere but black eyes might be a double factor dominant pied. I do nto hink a Double Factor spangle as then he would have a blue cere. Some DF dominant pieds have very little markings. If you have one with very little markings as at all, that is my guess. I have to say, you seem ever so eager to breed your birds. I do understand that, breeding is an exciting time and the thrill of what can be produced is awesome, however do not rush into it just for the sake of the breeding itself. You seem a little over eager to me. Enthusiasm is a grea thing, but take it slowly.
  15. They are a great looking pair.
  16. I was showing the trap to my nephews and I demonstrated the strength of the jaws using a wooden spoon. The plastic teeth actually dented the spoon.

Took my nephews to see Kung Fu Panda this school holidays. It was pretty good. I went and saw The Dark Knight - the new Batman flick. Heath Ledger was great. Good movie. Watched Alvin the other day and I am going down to watch Superman Returns again. I just bought a new DVD recorder with a hard drive. How great is it? I love movies. Over 200 DVD's I think. Movies, like budgies, are one of my passions.

The corn $ fine, but remove the shell grit. originally it was believed that birds needed shell grit so they had rocks in their stomachs to grind food. This was proven to be false. Shell grit is not needed and may be more harmful than beneficial
  19. Good point Elly. If both parents are yellow faced blue, it is possible to get 25% white faced( double factor yellow faced type 1), 50% Yellow face and 25% white faced (no yellow faced genes. What are the parents?
  20. You will notice Yellow faces when the first pin feathers come through. It is not an issue of "they will appear after a moult". They get them all. The only change after the first moult might be from type 1 to type 2, but they never change from white faced to yellow faced
  21. How great is that! (Shhhhh, don't tell anyone but I am a sucker for a happy ending)
  22. All of my birds react when they are put in the smaller cages. It is like solitary confinement in a way, except with a friend. they all look for a way out. i know it is tough to watch, try no, but give her a weel or so and she will calm down. i think that having another bird with her would help. can I ask why you are putting her in a smaller cage now if you do not want to breed with her until later? Personally I think they get used to the smaller box with their potential mate when they are ready to breed, then they breed. i am not sure if isolating her away from everyone will help her. I think that whens he goes into breed, if anything, she will have learnt from this experience that it is traumatic.
  23. Well done!!!!
  24. great picture. I looked at it and thought what roxy would be thinking.. So, if i put this one here and then that one....no no, that seems wrong"
  25. As I said, very nice Neat, and I have not noticed your signature until now, the black with the albino - very cool!!!
