  1. I love Yellow face type 1 cobalt bleu birds. Cosmo is sucha cute little bird. You are very lucky. he looks like he has a great little personality too
  2. Can only sit in the chair at the computer a short time but thank you for the kind thoughts. back is very sore - major disc problems - but it is improving. Worst thing about this is that I had to postpone my trip to Perth so Kaz and Libby, Mid-January 2009. I will be there. taking early delivery request orders now - LOL

    great looking pics.
  4. great birds libby, wish i was there to see them in person. My chiro has a sign hanging up - you know you are old when you back goes out more that you do. my back feels like it is travelling the world at the moment, i cannot get the rest of me to perth
  5. There is so much I have learnt. This includes information on: * genetics - mutations, dominant and recessive genes, sex-linked genes, as well as those strange abnormalities that life can throw up * quarantining - why it is important, and that it is much more than simply time * the difference between pet types and show birds * different foods * diseases and the best ways to counteract and prevent these from occuring * plenty of breeding hints There are so many different things that I did not mention , and still so much more to learn.
  6. great pics Kaz. Interesting to see all those green and grey green birds and then that little shot of white. Another foster baby? If so, why did you foster him? Seems like a lot in that nestbox
  7. i had a bird die of canker earlier this year. It is something that I did not know of, and my vet was quite surprised about, and it was not until the autopsy was it confirmed. there is treatment available, but take a young one to the vet and ensure that it really is canker.
  8. if there is another one in there about the same size, and as long as it is getting fed, then that is fine.
  9. why not just post pics on here? Surely there is am embedding code there
  10. I understand the sooking in the corner. Must be tough when you are surrounded by such beautiful birds that you realise you are not in the looks competition. Not sooking, self confidence issues - LOL!! Foghorn is a great name for a bird kaz. I always prefer personality names. Is the fostered chick , the youngest green, an opaline?
  11. I think Chysocome's is better as it deals with primary and secondary flights, as well as mentioning the ******* wing. Until i saw this picture, i always wondered what those feathers in that spot were called. Thank you Chrysocome for doing such an excellent job, and Kaz for reposting it.
  12. very cute In that 3rd photo there seems a big gap between the big 3 and the little 1. Did you think of fostering that little one out to another nest with chicks closer to his/her own age?
  13. Well Deb? Update? I still say both boys. Any crusty brown ceres we need to know about?
  14. okay, so as you know, you have the chance of dom pied and normals. If the cock is split blue, you should get soem cobalts, as she looks like a mauve bird to me. If the cock is not split blue, then you will not get any blues. The cock is a grey/green, so you should get some greens and greys. Any other surpises that Dad carries may appear - such as cinnamon. Kind of rushed before work so no time for percentages, sorry.
  15. good looking birds Kaz, very good looking birds
  16. very nice, a welcome addition to any flock
  17. Many children fall upon different levels of the Autistic Spectrum. People know of the severe Autistic examples, but there are many more forms, with lesser degrees of Autistic traits. Teachers have been doing lots of training with this, and there is governmental assistance available to schools to help children with differing capabilities. It $ natural to be concerned about how your child goes in school, especially for a child with a mild or moderate disability, but you do not stress. It is more common than you think Deb, and schools are geared more and more to coping with students with this. Trust me, I am a teacher who has a Masters Degree in Special Education, and I have just recently completed another course in "Educating Children with ASD's (Austistic Spectrum Disorders)".
  18. Tell me if I am wrong, and it wil nto be the first time, but there are some spangle wing marking in there, when neither parents are spangles. My theory... that hen has got around. Did we find out if this is a colony breeding situation or not?
  19. wow, great looking birds Kaz!!! I will be over there in about 10 days to pick them up. That's right, 10 days til I go to perth and get to see these little cuties myself.

when someone steps away from the forum it can be a sad thing. Daz's post on hsi building of the avairy was one of the first threads I followed. I used to come on here and read it, and I was always a slightly disappointed when there were no new threads. Not in Daz, but disappointed as I was so eager for more. I cheered when it was compelted, then worried as it had to pass council inspection. Daz seems to humble. he knows so much now, and has so much to offer, but he never builds himself up or big notes himself. losign his knowledge on this forum is sad enough, but losing him from this forum is far worse. Good luck, God bless and take care
  21. Your birds will work out they can go in and out. Few questions. 1) how is the breeding box secured? 2) how will you check the breeding box and clean the inside? 3) most importantly - why are you breeding budgies? the last question is not a personal attack, please do not take it that way. I think that it is a question we should all ask ourselves. I would love to breed budgies all year round, but I don't. I breed only a select few pairs a year. Maybe that will increase one day when I have a better set up and all, maybe not. regardless, the third question is an important one.
  22. Where do you get wheat grass from? Before we all jump on the wheatgrass bandwage, you should read this article Choice magazine article on wheat grass
  23. You watch that one then (it will make it so much easier to run off with the others if kaz is distracted by that one)
  24. I am going to agree with the pie here, I am really quite taken with light green budgies at the moment
