  1. You are heading in the right direction, but you have it around the wrong way. A normal hen cannot be split for the ino gene. So a normal looking green hen cannot be split lutino, nor can it be split cinnamon, nor can it be split opaline. A normal cock can be split for all three of these. Lutino's and albino's can mask other things.
  2. okay, thanks for the swift reply. Very cute little ones by the way
  3. Perhaps you can clear something up for me. You said pairing crested to crested results in smaller birds - much like breeding recessive to recessive. I read somewhere that the breeding of crested to crested results in high chick mortality rates, as in more of these chicks die. Is that ture or just a budgie breeding urban myth?
  4. I once dove 9 budgies up to Metford to Deb's place, about 3 hours all up due to traffic. They were great. They loved it , chirping happily. I made sure that the air con was on so they were not too hot, though not blowing on them directly. The person who suffered the most was me - they were so loud.
  5. I am starting out, much like you Budgiebuyer09, so I am at the stage where I am more interested in producing some quality birds compared to different types. I think once you establish a good looking bird, then you can worry about colour, or spangles, or even pieds. That is just my take.
  6. looking forward to seeing all these birds in person so very soon
  7. Hi

    welcome to the forum
  8. I just went through your old posts about this birds whilst Kaz and I discussed her. I am changing my vote. I think she is a YF type 2 cobalt blue cinnamon wing. I had a bird that we could not determine the colour of Tralia on the left. This pair produced 4 young - 2 blue spangles, 1 yf type 2 blue cinnamon wing spangle, and 1 yf type blue normal. Looking back at the young Summer produced, i think many of them were actually YF type 2 birds
  9. I agree Cinnamon Grey Green Spangle
  10. I was at a farmers market the other week and I bought some beetroots and bought them home, sliced them up and added them to the aviary, with mixed success. I put the 2 spare ones in the fridge. Yesterday I cleaned the aviary, no seed on the ground at all. Vacuumed it clean. Today I thought I would give the birds a treat, so they got the two remaining beetroot. This time I cut them in halves, and put them on skewers. They loved them. Now I have a messy aviary and some ghoulish looking birds. This is the demolished beetroot and messy floor. messy birds Beetroot will now become a mch more regular dietary component. They love spinach, corn and now beetroot, but not carrot remarkably
  11. I vacuum in the avairy without a problem. Though I am always scared I will one day hear a thump and then the tube will be blocked.
  12. the fact that this bird is not sky blue but seafoam green would indicate to me it is a yellow face type 2
  13. Welcome to the forum. Live just came home with some nice birds so drop in at her place and get yourslf a christmas pressie - LOL. Great to hear your willingness to read first, then buy. Hope we can provide you with some useful info.
  14. Good advice as always Kaz. I have used the millet before, but never the seed. Something we can all take on board.
  15. Bullet is definitely a yellow face type II blue. My understanding is that all birds will be blue, with 50% of them having a yellow face
  16. Wow, you got some great birds Liv.
  17. Welcome to the forum. It is refreshing to read about a young person that wants to keep budgies, without going on and saying "I want to breed budgies" straight away. Good on you. Don't be afraid to ask questions as well. We were all in your situation once. No one is born with all the known knowledge of budgies, we all had to ask and read as you will. Like it was stated earlier, we all love pics, so get snapping - LOL Once more, welcome. Hope you like it and stay a while
  18. my birds love callistemons. They have eaten it for years, and there have been no problems at all.
  19. Very good splat, you beat me too it. I agree - Yellow face type 2 opaline sky blue cinnamon winged spangle hen. I think the fact that she is not as brightly coloured as she should be is due to the cinnamon.
  20. great looking bird. i can hardly wait to get over there with my cash - LOL!!!!!
  21. You should also look at Sue Larkey's web site. Sue present a lot of workshops on Autism and the Austistic Spectrum, which Asperger's is a part of. At one of her recent workshops i was was at, she was discussing what we say to children, and how Asperger's syndrome children cannot understand things. For example, when a child does something that affects another child, we often say "look at what you have done? Do you think (other child) enjoyed it? Did you think of his/her feelings?" A child with Asperger's is very ego-centric - that is they only see the world from their point of view and they cannot consider the point of view of others. Asking a child with Asperger's to consider the feelings of someone else is the equivalent of handing a blind child a normal book and asking them to turn to page 34 and read the 2nd paragraph out loud.
  22. Good things come to those that wait. Well done Trish. You have done everything right here, followed advice, and you have an excellent result. Let's hope for many more eggs.
  23. I am going to speak up and say I feel a bit guilty here. Brewster was one of the birds that came from my aviary to Deb's, so when Deb speaks about cheking with a previous owner, she is referring to me. Now, there are no sunflower seeds, or "fatty foods" in my aviary. The birds have seed, plus they get fresh fruits and vegetables. There are iodine blocks hanging up so they nibble at those. I feel bad that this bird came from my place and went to Deb's, only to now need vet treatment. Sorry Deb. from my way of thinking though, it has to be genetic. There is nothing that could have caused this in my aviary.
