What Do You Look For In A Baby Budgie?
Thats what all of them do, thats why its hard to find one that will actually sell you some. I can't do that though I can only keep 1, I think I will keep the Light Green Normal hen she is looking really nice and I do need another hen. I will post some pictures when I get a new memory card which will be soon.

What Do You Look For In A Baby Budgie?
Thanks Daz, what I meen by holding back is keeping instead of selling it because I only have room for a limited amount of birds so I want to keep the best ones. I will wait and see if they get some of the characteristics you mentioned.

What Do You Look For In A Baby Budgie?
My clutch is fledging and they are all beautiful but I can't make my mind up on which one to keep. I really like the Light Green Normal because she already has alot of spots and a wide mask. The Oplaines both have a long mask but its not as wide as the Light Green Normal's they also have bigger throat spots. The head on the Light green is also bigger than the others. I know they need at least 1 year if not 2 to mature into an adult bird to really be able to notice any show qualities. I'm not sure which one I should keep though... My question is what do you look for when you hold back fledgelings? Thanks

Moving Outside...
I have to move my birds outside because my dad was diagnosed with Bird Fancier's Disease...funny because he doesen't even go near the birds. So I am building an insulated shed with a ceramic heater and vent...sky light and I am thinking of making an indoor/outdoor flight for the budgies. So on one side of the shed I will have breeding pairs and the cockatiels but on the other side I will have a flight for the budgies then a window inside the flight that I can open during certin days and allow them to enjoy the outside. I am worried about mosquitoes and mites... It gets cold here in Canada even in the south but I am going to make sure they stay warm I am cutting my stock down as well. Any tips or suggestions?

Pictures Of Green Series Lacewing Chicks?
Yeah they are definately not Laceings...they are still beautiful though I think I have a Light Green Normal, 2 Light Green Cinnamon Normals and a Light Green Opaline. Is it even possible to get Cinnamons out of a split to Lacewing cock? If the babies were Cinnamon they would have to have Ino as well correct? I was told that he was split to Lacewing...

Pictures Of Green Series Lacewing Chicks?
Does anyone have any pictures of Lacwing chicks that are green series...I have 4 chicks the first is going to be a Light Green Normal but the 2 middle ones had pitch red eyes when they were born now they don't have red eyes. The father is a Light Green Normal split to Lacewing and the mother is a Light Green Cinnamon Oplaine. I would post pics but I need a new memory card

Hope You Don't Mind...
I hope you guys don't mind that Im back but I missed this forum. Is it alright if I come back because I need some help with my show budgie breeding? I realized what I had done before or said was wrong and the bird should have recieved vet care since I'm not a vet yet...but after thinking about it. It was not the right thing to do because she could have died and I really didn't meen to call her a stupid egg bound budgie I was just mad. Do you guys forgive me? Im not sure if this should be in the breeding section or off topic but I will post it here.

Budgie Pair
Oh thats nice...thanks for your advice. So basically you guys don't want me here. Thats fine I can find my information elsewhere I shouldn't have posted that stupid post on that egg bound budgie. I knew some people would flip out...big mistake. I am responsible I'm not going to spend over $100.00 on a budgie I paid $10.00 for no way. I love animals and all. I want to be an avian veterinarian myself but guess what? I fixed it myself and it took a little hot water and a few drops of vegetable oil. Her hearts still beating, shes sitting on a perch, eating and drinking. She is absolutely fine and I saved my self hundreds of dollars and a trip to the vet. Just for note about all these young members I'm young myself if you haven't noticed. I'm 15 and that is pretty young in my book so I don't know what you guys are talking about.... That hen is fine and alive and she killed a nice cock bird of mine. I wish it was the other way around. I haven't been rude here and I caused a whole up roar about a stupid egg bound budgie. All I asked for is if my pair complimented...but thanks for the great advice I'll be sure to remember it. Anyways looks like you guys are done here and I'm done here, make sure you go for your yearly check ups

Budgie Pair
yeah I'm part of the Essex Kent Cage Bird Society, I already have my budgie bands for 2006 and yes I have looked at the standard its just too difficult to understand.

Budgie Pair
Well...I set up this pair I don't think they are going to breed but hopefully they do. I might have to get a light for them. They are both in condition and she isn't even going in the nest box... anyways my question is do they compliment each other? I'm trying to produce some good offspring to show in the novice division. This is a Cinnamon Grey Normal hen, shes banded "2006" (she has a bad wing it was broke when she was young and healed crooked, I got her like that from the breeder): http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair008.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair011.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair015.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair012.jpg This is a Grey Green Normal (I was told he was split to lacewing) he is 3 years old: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair022.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair024.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair025.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/bi...dgiepair028.jpg Do they compliment, what looks good about them...what looks bad? Joey, I have changed your pictures to links as they are far too large, please click on my signature to see the allowable size. I wouldn't think you would want to breed again until you have built up emergency funds in case one of your birds needs avian vet attention again. You MUST put your birds first!

Egg Bound Hen
She herself is fine, not mentally because I woke up today and she killed my light green spangle cock bird. I found him inside the nest box, eyes chewed oout and his cere gone. I'm not breeding this hen ever again. I might give her to a friend of mine.

Egg Bound Hen
I have only run into egg binding with budgies...and The first time which was about 4 years ago she survived. The second hen did not...This hen well she survived I got it out of her, I gave her a few more vitamin drops followed by some water and held her in a towel over running hot water. The steam helped her I guess because I rubbed vegetable oil around her vent and pushed upwards until I could see the tip of the uterus and she pushed 4 times and out came the egg. Shes fine now and I think she feels much better.Yes if I had the money I would have brought her but I can't just pull out $100.00 or more out of my pocket. The birds pay for this hobby I breed them I sell them and they pay for themselves when it gets to be more than that its not fun anymore. She didn't suffer Kaz I rather not talk about how it ended

Yellow Lacewings
Yeah I was told not to put them together as well but you have a beautiful pair right there

Egg Bound Hen
One of my hens that is breeding right now is egg bound and I don't know how she has been getting vitamins and they have a cuttlebone plus I have been giving them egg food and fruits & vegetables. I have no idea how she got egg bound... Anyways I noticed last night she was breathing a bit heavy and her wings were a little drooped, her tail clicking. I gave her some vitamin drops followed by a few drops of water. I'm going to try that again in a few minutes. The last time I tried to help me other egg bound female a few months ago I lost her I put a heat pad in an aquarium, put a towel on top and put her on the towel and lightly covered her with a pillow case. I than rubbed oil around her vent and left her alone for 30 minutes. I came back to check on her she didn't pass it so I gently pushed and worked the egg out. Unfortunately her whole uterus came out with it and...yeah Any help please? I'm not taking her to the vet I don't have the money for that right now, if I did I would but I dont...

I'm Starting Vet School On Monday!
Yeah, unfortunately its extremely hard here in Canada. The reason is because there are only 3 vet schools in all of Canada so it is very competitive and they only graduate 400 a year! So you must have extremely high marks they do suggest getting a Bachelor of Science Degree in University before applying for vet school because it is so competitive. I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was 7 years old, I was really good in science but not that good in math. Than high school came along and I did horrible in math and science because science had chemistry and physics which both contained math. So I switched academic math (which is university bound) to applied (college bound) and I thought hard and gave up on myself for a year. I did well in college grade 10 math with an 88%. I stayed in academic science and got a 67% which is a pass but not good. So this year in grade 12 I have all college bound sciences because I decided I was going to be a Paramedic. Than I thought hard again...blood, gore okay I love it but 12 hour shifts - no life. Just work, work, work. So I changed my mind and I am still going to try and get a Bachelor of Science Degree and apply to vet school no matter how hard it is. I will go to school for another 30 years if I had to but I am going to become a vet because "If you work hard at something that you thought was impossible, it will merely become something difficult." I love that quote and its true. So I am going to try my best and if worse comes to worse and I can't do it than I will become a Paramedic. In Canada this is what you have to do to become a certified veterinarian: Complete a Bachelor of Science Degree before applying for vet school Get as much experience as possible (volunteering or co - op placement at humane societies, vet clinics, pet stores...etc) Go to University and apply for vet school (I plan on going to the University of Guelph) ONE of the THREE You than have to complete about 8 years of schooling in total and pass the national exam to graduate. Its extremely hard, you have to be determined and work very hard at it. I also plan on specializing in Avian species along with something else like Dentistry or Microbiology. I forgot to mention that it is also EXPENSIVE, like $4,000.00 a semester. Becoming a Veterinarian is more difficult than becoming a Doctor. Humans can tell us whats wrong and we can go from there. Animals on the other hand have no voice and cannot tell us whats wrong or what hurts. and the Veterinarian has to diagnose and than treat the problem. I wish you alot of luck and hope you make it. I have belief in myself to but its just that math that is holding me down because I would seriously go to school for as long as it takes to become one. It is an awsome career.

Ivermectin
I have had a few Scaley Face encounters, use some vaseline, apply it with a Q Tip and rub it gently over the area where the mites are. It plugs their burrows and they suffocate. That vet is probably not an avian vet.
