  1. Is that because their bodies need to put so much energy into growing those feathers that they are generally malnourised and have various nutrient deficiencies (despite even the best care, of course)?

hehe... a gynecologist is, to put it sweetly, a "lady doctor"
  3. The only reason I have Smokey's clipped is to prevent him flying full speed into anything and doing himself damage. I lost my last budgie in a flying accident when he misjudged his landing on his cage-top perch and flew into the wall... So my reasoning was not for the sake of stopping him from escaping, or even for taming purposes, but more for saftey in a smallish area where he might come into the same trouble Casper did.
  4. and here's my sig... I'm not really clever with computery stuff, so I'm pretty happy that I got flashing things on it!! :28:
  5. All I want for Christmas is an ELEPHANT!! :28:
  6. Here's my photo entry... We're actually using it to make this year's Chrismas cards (we always make our own, using a photo for the front... Smokey has scored the lead role this year!)... I am currently working on coming up with an AWSOME sig!
  7. Hehe... the white budgie in the background of the top photo looks alittle like that character from the old Life. Be in it animated TV campaign!.. Norm was it?
  8. I also used a shortened version of my full name, but being owned by my budgie, decided to let my username portray that - CaspersRose!
  9. Thanks, Elly. We do too, and it is a tremendous comfort knowing that everything happens for a reason and is part of a plan much bigger than we can possibly imagine, let alone control! Some of our friends and family find it difficult to understand how we can be thankful for all of this happening - they hear the Big C Word and say things like, "that's not fair", "why you?" and all that. But finding answers to those sorts of questions really doesn't make anyone feel better, either because they are un-answerable, or un-fixable! In all honesty, we have been given a blessing - had Dave not got sick in the first place, this wouldn't have been uncovered until it was much, much worse and much more distressing. Thank God for sinusitis!
  10. the other day I lost my glasses (very inconvenient!) - and you can imagine what it's like trying to find your glasses when you're not wearing them! When was the last time you tripped over in public?
  11. I know a couple of members have had brushes with cancer and cancer scares recently with their children and other family members... well, now it's our turn. My husband had a brain tumour as a 12 year old, which was partially removed with surgery and then treated with radiation therapy. I have no idea how effective such treatments were 20 years ago, compared with today, but up until recently, he had been really well, and was even given the total all clear in 2004 after his final follow-up MRI, based on the fact that the residual tumour had not changed in 12 years. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, he had had a headache all weekend and into the next week. He went to the GP (who happens to be the same GP who managed his case first time round) who decided to err on the side of caution, given his history, and send him for an MRI. The MRI came back showing that not only did he have terrible sinusitis, but also an unusual mass on the left side surface of his brain, AND that the site of his original lesion deep on the right side had almost doubled in size since his last MRI. So off we were sent to the neurosurgon. The neurosurgeon told us that Dave had had a very lucky bout of sinusitis, as left untreated, the tumours would not have shown any symptoms for quite some time, at which point, surgery would be made more complicated due to the size of the masses. So as it turns out, the tumour on the left surface of his brain has probably been caused by the radiation therapy he had as a kid, and the other mass is most likely fluid around the original site. The surface one will need surgery in the new year, and the deeper one will need surgery down the track to put in a shunt or drain of some sort. Oh boy! Oh, and it was the neurosurgeon's opinion that the headaches were totally unrelated to the tumours, and only caused by the sinusitis! Very lucky sinusitis indeed! We have another appointment with the neurosurgeon on Monday to find out where to go from here in terms of surgery etc. On top of all of this, I have my clinical block for uni over hte next four weeks... on the neuro ward!

Go fish, but I'd love to one day when we're no longer renting a little 2 bedroom unit! Has it been less than a week since you last cooked dinner on the barbie?

Hehe... my husband has a pair of trackies which are confined to the house too! And yes, I do have a pair of uggies! Do you grow your own veggies?

i've just read over your posts from last time you were with us... I'd love to hear and see an update on your feathered friends! Did you ever end up with little babies?

Go fish... but i never miss an appointment or assignment... I like to describe my life as an "organised mess" - to an outsider it looks like chaos, but I know exactly where everything is, exactly whta's going on, and exactly what needs to be done! Do you have a favourite pair of trackies?
  16. CaspersRose replied to Elly's topic in Competitions
Yes! It is great seeing what other popel are up to/think/have been doing... etc Is your budgie infatuated with anything as boring as a water dropper? (mine is - dancing, talking, flirting... poor boy!)

if you're going to use the water (ice cubes etc) anyway, the nutrients would still be in the water, wouldn't they??
  18. What a menagerie! Am looking forward to lots more phots... now you have your card reader there is no excuse!
  19. That's terrific I had heaps of offcuts of dowel from when I turned the perches around from running across the cage to running front to back...had to cut them all shorter to run front to back and ended up with the offcuts I used here. Perfect!
  20. i have a swing I made similar to these... I got a coathanger and bent it as you did, then instead of using dowell, I used a piece of gum to form the sitty-onny bit. Smokey is in love with it at the moment (by in love, i mean, REALLY in love), but he does enjoy swinging on it too!
  21. haha.. having a "ball"... literally!
  22. Sweet... will remember that! ta
  23. aha! I just managed to get the initial one working and MB offers the simple solution of "try again"... sometimes i am guily of complicating things unneccesarily! Anyway, enjoy! PS Thanks MB!
