This is incorrect information. Females do talk. Its just that most people assume they dont nor cant and dont bother trying to teach them.
  2. Pet stores dont pay the price for these birds that they are worth. They mark the price up up and make the profit off you and you never get to see the homes or people they go to. Why give the business to a pet store when you can do it all yourself ?
  3. The egg is already fertilised if the budgies mated successfully ..........it doesnt happen after its laid. Food and nutrients should be something the parents have been on all along..........varied diet including fruits and vegies. Dont touch the eggs as we can transfer bacteria from our hands that may affect an egg hatching or not. Congrats on the egg
  4. yes kaz im calling female as you thought see were all wrong sometimes just proves though male female doesnt matter if tamed right they all can be great friends There is some that are very very tricky to figure out mate.

  9. Got a picture of the parents Trish ? I also have a pied that has me stumped too Trish..........maybe we can both get answers here Here's mine the confusing thing is seeing near normal bosy colour markings :)So now theres two puzzles to sort out genetics buffs :D
  10. Snakes eat eggs whole. But they also go for birds. Snakes could easily access cages. Small snakes may not go for the birds. There are snakes that are just egg eaters. Bigger snakes would eat the birds. Rats eat eggs and birds. Rats show they have been by leaving bloodied carcasses of the birds. I am not sure about mice and eggs. What other wildlife is around that could be doing this ?
  11. I dont mean for you to put them in amongst other flying birds...that wont work.
  12. Drill a hole into the door that a nail or screw can sit in to lock down the door from sliding open. Once you know the entry isnt from the sliding doors, then it narrows it down to access through the cages. Lock down all doors....again once you know access isnt from those two ways it will narrow down what can or cant be getting at the eggs. You may have to lay traps, or watch, or put something down to see what footrints or slither marks are going near the cages at night. Werent you going to be putting your breeding cages in your aviary ? The verandah is pretty vulnerable.
  13. You have predators..............you need to find out what in a big hurry before you lose birds as well. Snakes ? Mice ? Rats ? How do your nestboxes open ?

  18. She is just doing what budgies do Actually Ratzy........budgies love all thicknesses of twigs and branches especially the thin ones...they bounce around on them and as well as that all thicknesses are what exercises a budgies feet
  19. Always check bells closely with budgies...one of my aviary budgies had pulled apart a ball and was running around the aviary with the bell stuck firmly on the end of his beak.

I am not familiar with brisbane temps, so it would have to be your choice based on knowledge of your weather conditions and what the birds have had inside the house. Noone can judgie really.
  24. **KAZ** replied to lil_fuzzy's topic in Budgie Talk
Temperatures outside and the changes will all depend on what temperatures and conditions they have had inside. Moving birds outside bordering on winter is not necessarily a good idea unless you can be certain the temperature change isnt drastic. Why have you left it till now to move them...why not a few months earlier so they could acclimatise ?
