Perhaps you could borrow a cage from someone. Or buy one that is smaller just for quarantine and perhaps a hospital cage. Any chance the bird is sick? I ask because you say things are getting worse. Usually the more you try to work with them, the more things improve. I'll be watching the post to see how things work out. I wish you luck whatever you end up doing.

Have you thought of getting another bird? I've heard that if you can tame your new bird, the other becomes a little more trusting of you. And worse case scenario, it is company for your other little birdie. Perhaps this isn't an option for you but it ?might? help. My experience is that males seem to tame better than females.

Definately the bars are too wide. And now that your budgie has escaped once he is bound to do it again. They are smart little things! You may need to invest in a new cage. And then you can get a bigger bird for that cage :hap:

I know that some of my budgies get restless in their cage when they want out. Perhaps he is just not happy in there. Sounds like he likes his freedom. And being out with you guys - his flock.

Karen, shocking news. Sorry for the loss of your bubs. Does this mean you'll retire this female from breeding? Is it hereditary from her or the dad?
