If it was a girl her cere would be more tan around the 4-6 month mark because it is such a nice pink and the bird is over a year it would be boy. Pretty has nasal ring boys can the key too is the coloration of the pink vs pinkish whitish. Hope that makes sense. Here is a picture of Pretty and you can see his nasal rings

your right it is a recessive pied and they call those caps on the recessive pieds and it will molt out . Cute cute... but I don't believe it has anything to do with the blackfaced gene.

not really you take care of them just the same :hap: they are budgies just at the pet ones are . My Merlin the blue one is considered a show budgie aka English but he is my English pet budgie . If you are consider showing them you can join a budgie club and start there and learn but the needs are the same they need their seed, pellets, veggies, fruits, vitamins etc... Great question and I am sure others will jump in that show.

I see you read Bea's post you will need to go to the avian vet to purchase the cream or medication. Your bird should to exam before treated if you are unsure.

the green ones have a more bitter taste my kids don't enjoy them but the red ones are sweeter and they like those (the kids). The birds I never tried yet :hap: but that may explain why some turn up their beaks.

Oh Pretty was in love :hap: he thought Merlin was a girl. Bobbing everywhere, trying to jump on his back and Merlin told him off. After they straighted out the female male thing they were best buddies too the end

if she is sick you won't be able to get weight on her you may best take her for a check-up with an avian vet. Pretty had lost weight I am sure when he got sick but his keel bone did not show that much. The thing is that budgies mask illness that weight loss is the first sign of something wrong. Kaz gave some good advice.

it is hard to say. Pretty was up and singing by afternoon he was listless and by evening he had passed on in my hands. I was able to get him to a vet who said he had a respiratory infection but he never showed signs of heavy breathing. He rolled over on the side one time but that was because he was weak and that was moment before he died. Budgies can mask their illness so well. I am sorry to hear about your loss , Pretty just died a little over 2 weeks ago. His cage mate Merlin was taken to the avian vet the next day for an exam. He is well at this time. It could be the flash I see what you mean and I would go with dominant pied banding on that not recessive if that is not from the flash. I remember Nerwen seeing that on another bird and saying dominant pied. Also the wing marking on the back are too uniformed to be really considered recessive they are usually more splotch know what I mean? Can't tell if she has her iris rings.

if the hen continues to do this it is suggested that you retire her from breeding because she is not a good breeder. She can become more agressive and even kill the cock bird.

normal weight on budgies is around 40g to 45g the English variety may weigh more. I see what Kaz is saying her keel bone is really defined and it should not be like that.

You can call the avian vet for treatment because if she doesn't get treatment it will get worse and watch your other birds because it spread easily.
