Soaked Seed
Sprout your Own Seed Categories for this entry Food and Nutrition You can use bird seed, alfafa, suflower, pea, the list is endless. Pop some seeds in a jar (don't fill too full, they will swell). Cover jar with a stocking, and put an elastic band around the mouth of jar to hold the stocking on. Fill jar with water. Leave for an hour. Empty out water. Put jar in a dark spot (on an angle so any more water can drain out.) Rinse with water twice a day. Should sprout within a couple of days. You must rinse with water at least twice a day, otherwise they will go 'sour' and smelly It is also advised to add a product, such as aviclens, to stop the build up of bacteria. (Vetafarm's Aviclens is available from some pet stores in Australia) contributed by BBC member Daz Last update: 2007-04-13 17:36 Author: Lin

Here Is My New Budgie
Excellent choice and I am glad you have decided to quarantine as well. A 2nd cage is always good to have in case 1 gets sick for a hospital cage as Pretty did. As for a vet make sure you are going to an avian vet they know best , a general exam here in the US consists of a gram stain, physical examination, a weight check, fecal test that costed me around 85.00 (I was tickled pink with that price to be honest). I was in fear mode when I took Merlin because Pretty had just passed so I had no clue. All vets and countries are different in cost. In our FAQ we have Avian Vet Look-up in case you need that too. Let us know how it everything goes tommorrow (I assume you meant that) since today is Sunday for us .

Hi I'm New
Blow lightly on her food and see if there are any empty husks. Budgies will hull their seeds and leave the covering of the seed and it looks full but it is actually empty. Do this daily so she can get down to the other seed. Also here is a great information on Budgie Diet because they should not be on an all seed diet it doesn't contain all the nutrients needs (even if people say it does). They should be on a mixture of seed, pellets, veggies, fruits etc... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...tion=show&cat=5 Millet is awesome but feed it sparingly because it is fattening it is a wonder treat when working on taming or a simple treat - once a week is good. .

Hi I'm New
Yep click here and there are instructions on to to post, resize etc...in the pinned sections. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=51 First you will need to upload your pictures to a website such as www.photobucket.com account (this is free). Make sure the pictures are resized to 450x450 no larger (instructions and free software to resize are in the pinned section). Then you can post them and photobucket will give you the coding you need to post the picture. Anymore questions we have a tech section you can ask in too .

Here Is My New Budgie
Kaz you posted right after me I COMPLETELY 2nd those words - excellent words of advice. The thing is your bird is probably not sick but you never know. Bea purchased Oz at a pet store and within a week he was sick and to the vets good thing she quarantined from her other flock or the whole flock would have been on meds. Thank goodness Oz was okay after a round of medicine but you never know. okay I am coming off the lecturing perch I am sorry

Here Is My New Budgie
No one can guarantee a bird is 100% healthy that is impossible, not to sound harsh but will they guarantee if that bird does get your existing birds sick that they will replace them (even though they really are not replaceable) the only guarantee is the bird you bought from them. PetsMart guarantees their birds but I would never bring one home and put them in straight away. It is not wise. All birds no matter what need to be quarantined from exisiting birds any avian vet will tell you in fact they advise 90 days not 30 . It is completely up to you but on these boards we have seen a whole flock wiped out from someone who thought oh this bird is okay. My poor Pretty died and he wasn't even 2 years old and our house is clean, non-toxic fumes, and a great enviroment these birds in the pet store are exposed to all sort of germs including any bird that they don't quarantine. If they give that type of advice my wonder is if they quarantine any new birds they get or do they just add them to the cage? (close to home subject - with Pretty's passing so I am sorry if I come over harsh) bad advice (not saying bad store)

Help Please
The best thing you can do is to encourage and support her we don't always like what our friends do but what we can do is make a difference by constant encouragement plus you may even say I will help you out with keeping the cage, water, food clean and the eggs out of the cage. Especially if you are close to her and see her often. Thank you for your words about Pretty , it was a very sad and shocking loss for us.

Budgie With Enlarged Liver
Did he give you information on treating it through diet? Our budgies have been bred and bred and tumors, liver disorders and such have been a common ailment. Budgies DO mask their symptoms so even if your little one doesn't feel good it will act okay because in the wild it is be sick or get eaten or act well and be safe. I would suggest purchasing an electronic gram scale that goes up and down in increments of 1 gram so you can keep an eye on her weight that is one of the first indicators something is going bad. Keep an eye on the poos, measure how much she eats and make sure it is a variety of food. Pellets have been suggested to be the diet when they do have an liver enlargement does she eat those? If not you may work on converting her over SLOWLY. We have an article in the FAQs about diets you may want to read up on. At this point you are treating them symptoms which is inflammation of the liver to keep her healthy.

Aloe Vera Plant
Oh my goodness isn't this funny Daz just send me information on this for the FAQ section called Natural Conditioning here it is Aloe Vera I am not sure if there is any scientific evidence to back up this article but people who have used it seem pleased with their results, and there is Aloe Vera available in New Zealand for farmers to give to their dairy cattle. Most health shops sell capsules, hand cream etc., so there must be something going for it. I have had two people contact me on the use of AloeVvera as a natural wormer and also a tonic and pick me up. The first person places a whole AloeVera leaf in his drinking water for four to five days every two months and says there is no algae forming while it is in the water. The other is from Les Gill and he uses Aloe Vera on his birds. Keep your birds in top condition by growing and using Aloe Vera in your aviary's day to day management. Aloe Vera is a miracle cure for most diseases in birds. It helps with digestive disorders caused by birds eating infected foods. It is a wormer and laxative. It is excellent on cuts and sores and will stop cuts bleeding and act as an antiseptic. It can be used as a spray and acts as a conditioner. It stops bacterial and fungal growth. It gives your birds greater stamina. It helps prevent egg binding. It will help control a lot of other diseases. The active ingredients in AloeVera are: Alion, Baralon, Natalon, Chlorophyl, Emodin, Resins, Albumin, Essential oils, Gum Arabic, Silica, Phosphate, Lime, Iron. The minerals it contains are Vit. A, Vit B1, Vit B2, Vit B3, Vit C, Vit E, Vit B12, The minerals it contains are Calcium, Chloride, Chromium, Copper, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, and zinc There are also 17 amino acids and 5 enzymes. The enzymes are most beneficial to the birds whole system and will activate the functioning of any sluggish parts. This means an improvement in health and well-being, and a noticeable difference can be observed after 48 hours. To use Aloe Vera make a gel juice by the following method. Fill a one litre jar with rain or filtered water, and place a 115 gram piece of Aloe Vera leaf in it. If using as a wormer of laxative leave the thick skin on, otherwise trim it off. (Remember, put water in jar first) Place jar in refrigerator for 24 hours. The leaf will float at first and when ready will sink to the bottom of the jar. Dilute the solution 50/50 with water and give to your birds daily. The original solution can also be topped up and the Aloe Vera leaf will be effective for 14 days.. Remember you cannot overdose your birds on this. Important points Do not shake or stir the jar as the enzymes are very sensitive. Keep refrigerated, enzymes are destroyed by heat. Change water daily. Solution can also be sprayed on birds for external parasites. For cuts and sores use the gel that oozes from the leaves. Natural Conditioning Last update: 2007-04-21 14:59 Author: Contributed by Daz

What Types Of Babies Will These Two Have?
They will be a mixture since they are both pied you never know how the pied markings will appear some have a lot and some don't , some may have a dark factors and some may not. The surprise will be fun to see if you get any blues to see if they are both split or if the male has any hidden sex-linked genes .
