Were you going to put in all the birds plus the mom? Just wondering because colony breeding can be very dangerous to the parents and the chicks, something you might want to look into when you breed again . Just putting it out there. Glad you got your new aviary and look forward to pics.
  3. Glad she is okay Sailor, how scary.

He will be a 747 , cute cute
  7. The small spot on the head I have read means a dominant pied (in tiels it does mean split to pied). Since one of the parents is a dominant pied I am going to say it is a dominant pied spot.
  8. looks like a dark skyblue to me

    He it was just habit
  10. The babies that were clearbodies they were hens right? The male will give the clearbody gene to the hens and they can't mask the gene. If you got a clearbody from that mating that means that Lucifer is carrying the clearbody gene if you had visible clearbodies. Because in this case the female would give to the male but for the male to express it they have to have 2 clearbody genes. From what I understand here clearbody is no different in regards to figuring it out like the ino or any other sex-linked gene. Maybe I am way off..so we will see what others say.
  11. That is very interesting, thank you hath

  15. how about any regular recessive type of genes that are not sex-linked feathers? Thinking out loud.

Thank you, I just love that little boy
  17. I will can you do me a favor and any abbrevations if there are make a key and also explain that a female is xy and male is xx (opposite of human genetics). Also explaining why the female can not mask any sex linked genes because of the xy and the male can. I will let you know when I post the above and then we can add the rest. Excellent work.
  18. Regurgitation looks just like when the cockbird is feeding either babies or hen. They are bringing it up into their throat to feed others. They arch their head and neck and then bob their heads up and down to bring the food up. Regurgitation is an up and down movement. This is a normal behavior. Read more: Why does my budgie regurgitate for me (or another object)? Vomiting is a bit stronger like convulsive and the bird shakes it head side to side and splatters the vomit. Vomiting is a sideways shaking of the head. If your bird if vomiting you need to call your Avian Vet immediately this is a sign of sickness. 22. I didn't see anything about full spectum lighting, I know it was talked about way back and Rainbow said she could see a difference in her birds. I found this article to be beneficial for those who have pet budgies, breeding budgies, show budgies etc...overall an excellent article for all. http://www.featherbrite.com/why.htm My question is who uses Full Spectrum Lighting for their birds? Have you see a difference?
  23. As Daz says it is just a % example Tim and I both have brown eyes and it is only 25% chance that our kids would have blue eyes, guess what they both have blue eyes. We can do %;s but nature does the rest . There is a program that some people use and there are good sites out there that give you information on mutations as well as books. Here is a site I use to help figure out domancy, recessiveness etc... http://www.budgieplace.com/colors.html
