  1. I give Merlin millet 1x a week but not the whole spray I will cut it since he would eat the whole thing which is not good.
  2. in breeding condition a female budgie's cere will be crusty and brown when they are coming out of breeding condition or not in condition females ceres can range from a whitish tan or tanish pink in a pied everything sounds very normal
  3. Welcome to the forums. If you can go to the breeding section and give us more information on your breeding program that would help us help you. Click herer for instructions on to post photos on our boards

here in the US the newspapers are non toxic and the ink doesn't rub off if you don't want to use newspaper you can use other paper but it works like a charm . I got this idea from another member here on the boards. It beats cleaning the poo out of the grate :hap:
  5. when you do this are they enjoying it or are they hyper ventilating that is the key if you are causing more fear yes it is not a smart way to train but if they are enjoying the mist and then your interaction it would be okay.

I personally put newspaper on top of my wire grate and Merlin always walks on it. Keeps it cleaner and the poos doesn't stick everywhere. Also I don't use grit, that from what I understand is debatable subject. Since budgies hull their seeds they don't need grit like other parrots. There is an BBC FAQ on it too .
  7. thank you for the update...
  8. I am not sure if budgies pine or not but I think he will be just fine maybe they can keep his cage covered on 3 sides during the day to keep him settled and he feels safe in his new surroundings until you come back Have fun.
  9. Sounds like he is in good hands, please keep us updated.
  10. he sounds like quite a character and yes they are all so much fun with their different personalities

I have the same cage, it is such a popular one and there is a reason for that , it is a great buy for the size. Your budgies will love it.
  12. I really don't think I can advise but to go back to the vet. One think though I can say is the heatbox you should take out all perches so he is not climbing up on them or put them very low to the ground if he feels the need to perch that is better so he doesn't hurt himself. Please keep us updated.

You received really good advice and I want to ditto that. Merlin hangs out on the lower part of his cage all the time because that is where his toys are (but not under perches where he can poo on them). I love that cage!!
  14. I don't use a skirt either but I would think the concern would be if a piece of stray thread wrapped around her foot or toe and she was injured.
  15. I have a picture with Pretty and Maxx and Molli between the cage bars doing the same thing. But I can tell you if there were no cage bars the story would be different . Very cute.

hugs, I am so sorry to hear of your loss Ginny I am sure will come and visit your new aviary and she will be there looking over all her friends :hap: Ginny girl you are beautiful
  18. she is beautiful and the cage size for 1 budgie is good :hap:
  19. looks like a mauve dilute to me I don't see pied in him at all he is a cutie
  20. Congrats, it is so easy to fall in love with them Make sure you quarantine for a full 30 days before you intro him to your existing bird. Look forward to seeing pics.
  21. My namesake i s gorgeous too Elly, but apparently dumb.. I am wondering if that's why he was named after me Feathers. Aly, your namesake ALI BABA was the only one smart enough to figure out the honey seed treat was food and not a perch See there Aly you are a genius , and we already knew that
  22. It took me a good 6 months before Pretty really warmed up to me. He was a pet store budgie with no human interaction so don't give up. Go through the taming article in the FAQ section, I go through how I tamed him. Be patient I know she will come around. Merlin is just starting to come around since Pretty passed away and that was in March of this year. Keep us updated and always ask questions. Let us know the good, bad and the ugly the support is wonderful here.
