I remember braces and I remember how much my mouth hurted too , Motrin is what is best for teeth/mouth pain my dentist said, my son recently had a root canal and was in a lot of nerve pain for a couple days and Motrin helped out along with rotating it with Tylenol.

I would also think that rearranging the cage where he doesn't have to curl his feet as much and giving him more of flat perches to sit on so he can keep his feet flat, diet is a big factor in gout as mentioned but it can be controlled to a degree.

Keep us updated with the avian vet visit, I do hope there is a positive resolution for the sake of the bird.

I am thinking on the lines of what Kaz said male ceres can turn brown if they have testicular problems, instead of guessing I would take him to the vet to get him checked out.
