  4. What a great picture!!! This picture was taken and submitted by BBC member fero. Congrats to you!! You will have to tell us the background of this wonderful photo. We do ask that you host for photo for the reminder of 2010 as you are now qualified for Budgie of the Year Contest If you would like to be a part of Budgie of the Month, come on over and submit your picture for February today!!
  5. that is a good thing, he likes your hand because he trusts it and wants to be near you plus I didn't read everything above but if he is dancing and biting on your nails he is flirting with you like he would be another budgie.
  6. Yep I figured I just think about carrying something on your clothes or hands inspite of washing and being careful.
  7. I think renee what you are doing is the best thing the only other thing I would do is contact wildlife and see if you can hand him over as they probably have better resources plus you don't know if the chick is carrying any diseases that can be passed on to budgies, you may also want to google taking care of magpies and see what you come up with. Good luck with the baby and keep us informed.

    what a cutie
  9. Opaline is a striping pattern mutation. It reverses the striping pattern on the head feathers so that there are thicker white areas and thinner black stripes. Another feature which adds to the beauty of this mutation is that the body feather color runs through the stripes on the back of the neck and down through the wing feathers. Opaline budgies' tails are characteristically patterned with light and colored areas running down the tail feather. Basic Genetics: Sex-linked (on the x-chromosome) http://www.budgieplace.com/c_opaline.html Personally this bird doesn't look opaline looks like a normal green, the cere looks very blue in the picture denoting a male.
  10. Yep it is normal.
  11. Awesome update
  12. Elly replied to naomi's topic in Budgie Talk
That is wonderful, I love listening to Merlin talk
  13. Have you maybe put him in certain type of lighting to see if they are just very dark vs not there? I am sure it happens with genetics anything is possible.
  14. Awesome picture, congratulations for winning Budgie of the Year!!! This cute picture was taken by summer and won June 2009 Budgie of the Month!!! Please leave your congrats. Sidenote: to be a part of Budgie of the Year you must first add your photo to Budgie of the Month (you can enter monthly 1 picture), if you picture wins a month for example Jan 2010 then your photo is automatically qualified to be part of the Budgie of the Year voting .
  15. Time to vote for your favorite budgie picture (s), you can vote for more then one. Please don't leave comments here if you have any questions feel free to PM me. Voting will day open for 3 days. Good luck to all who entered. You can now enter a new picture for February Budgie of the Month CLICK HERE TO ENTER
  16. Put in your best entry for Budgie of the Month. Every one has until the end of each month (U.S. Time EST) to enter a picture. Members vote at the beginning of the month to chose who will be the winner. You can win only 1 time within the year so for example if you won March Budgie of the Month then your pictures can not be qualifed to win again. This prevents 1 member winning all the time and makes it fair since each and every one of us have different talents with our camera  . One picture per member per month. Please remember to keep to the board rules of maximum, pictures should not exceed 480x640 AND links will not be accepted ONLY images. If this is not met then you picture will not be accepted (notification of non acceptance is not guaranteed). Any post you make to this thread will not show up so please do not repost. Do not post questions on this thread if you have a question you can either PM me or post in the Competition Area, thank you. Good luck to all that enter. Winners are recognized for the whole month and a Budgie of the Month Picture (example below) is is added to their signature line and it is removed after the month is over and is added to the next winners signature line. Click HERE to see all the different emblems that are used. They have been created by our own BBC members and we appreciate their help. created by mysixbabies Also note that all monthly winning pictures will be automatically added to the Budgie of the Year fpr 2010. To check out "2008 Budgie of the Year" CLICK HERE and feel free to congratulate them. Budgie of the Year 2009 will be decided after December Budgie of the Month is Voted in. Important Information: if you are the Budgie of the Month and are entered in the Budgie of the Year your original photo most stay up and not be moved, deleted, or link broken, this is the only way we can verifiy that that photo was the winner, if you decide to move, delete the photo your photo is disqualified from the Budgie of the Year Competition. Interested in our Monthly 2009 Winners? CLICK HERE and feel free to look, this is a readme only post, to congratulate the winner feel free to click on the CLICK HERE to Congratulate Link in this thread under the photo. Read here on how to post pictures within guide regulation Photo Regulations/How to Post TIPS on taking good pictures that WIN Make sure you have good lighting, the best is in the daylight without a flash Try and take your budgie's picture without the bar cages, many camera's will let you zoom in and you can put the lense between the space If it is a close-up use your macro setting (symbolized on some camera's by a flower) and then press the shutter button 1/2 way and let it focus If the picture is blurry check your setting and try again Make sure you resize your pictures to message board size (640x480) too small of pictures are hard to see
  17. Maybe keeping the air itself cool but I don't believe it would be healthy for a bird to walk and lay on them.
  18. I agree, add pictures we can work out the mutations of your birds for sure and then give you outcomes.
  19. When they do that type of behavior they are flirting with you and going through their hormonal stage of the "month" so to speak. You can calm this behavior down by making sure the cage is covered 10-12 hours and you can add on a couple more hours for a week to calm the hormones down. Do take it as a compliment.
  20. welcome your flock is gorgeous
