Newbie Questions From A New Budgie Owner
It is best that the branches are dry before putting them in the cage.

Baby Has Cold?
No. She was very grumpy. Before I changed the bedding she was ever so accomodating, she would even try to pull my hand underneath her body to keep it warm. Now she is very angry with it and it gets a bite.

Baby Has Cold?
I took baby out later last night and this morning to check up on it and its runny nose has gone and it seems fine so far. Thank you everyone for helping. I cleaned out the nest box too. Now mama budgie isn't too happy with me.

Newbie Questions From A New Budgie Owner
Budgies love bark. They like to chew it off. You should look up a list of safe woods for budgies. Some safe woods are: Apple Eucalyptus Pear Poplar Willow It is a good Idea to scrub the branches wiht either water and vinegar or water and lemon juice. (Vinegar is best, I think). Then to dry you can put the branches in the oven (taking care that the branches don't catch fire!) or lay them out in the sunshine where the UV rays help to kill bacteria. Hope that helps.

The "boys" It's Been A While
Real cuties. I love the picture of Merlin keeping his beak shut. Such a little fluff.

'taking' Out Vs. 'letting' Out
It is best to take them out when they aren't very tame. Because by letting them out when they are like this, they think they have managed to scare you away and are able to have fun with out needing you. I would work on having your budgie stp up on you finger and feeding them inside the cage for a week or two. Test to see if they will come out on your hand every time you handle them. Once they are tamer you can probably let them out.

Baby Has Cold?
Baby's nose is clear. I'm using wood shavings and it isn't too dusty. Perhaps I should clean out the nest box. Only problem with colds is that they are viruses. Antibiotics don't work.

Hi
Hi and welcome. All questions are welcome.

Baby Has Cold?
I took my little 2 week old baby budgie out to handle today and it was sneezing. It was very warm and otherwise active, so I put it back under its mummy so that it stays warm. I don't think I'll take it out of the nest box just for a couple of days so that it stays warm. Any ideas? The other two babies are fine and are becoming quite friendly.

How Long Before Removing Eggs?
Yes It would be too soon to remove them. It can take up to any time between 18-25 days for an egg to hatch and you should wait a week after the 25 day mark before you throw it away. Your most recent agg would probably only be 16 days old and it wouldn't be due to hatch yet. You should probably wait another 3 weeks before throwing them out.

Please Help - Budgie Training (and Probably People Training!)
Hi Billy and welcome to the forums. A really good site for taming budgies is eterri's site www.budgietalk.com. It is best to get them handtamed before letting them out of the cage, this prevents them from becoming scared from being chased outside the cage. It would be a good idea to even up your budgie's clip. Having them uneven makes it very awkward for the budgie to fly and can cause them to land badly. More people will come on with more tips.

You Can See The Mischief In His Eyes!
I like the one where he is on the Parent Trap DVD. I think he has plans for you.

Lucky's Day
I reckon Lucky is a girl. Her cere is very pale. See how there is a bit of brown crust still left on it in the 2nd and 3rd picture, which would most likely be left over from breeding condition.

Hey Guys
Welcome. You will love it here. More pics please.

Little Poop Factories
Sometimes, birds will only go when you command them, if you teach them to go on command. One time a lady went on holiday for two weeks and her parrot's carer rang her up saying her parrot hadn't pooped. She had to tell it to poop over the phone. That is when toilet training can be dangerous.

Newbie Questions From A New Budgie Owner
It is best to hand tame your budgies before you let them out to fly. This is so it won't be so scary for them when you want to put them back in their cage. Also, by letting them come out on their own, they think they have manged to scare you away and it teaches them that they don't need you to have fun.

Let The Breeding Begin!

Newbie Questions From A New Budgie Owner
Welcome. Good on you for asking questions. The cage size you mentioned sounds good to me. Chrysocome answered everything quite well. A note on lettuce: Iceburg lettuce is bad for budgies and most animals. If you want any further infor on taming and what to expect from new budgies, go to eterri's site: www.budgietalk.com, ooo. We would really like some pictures. :ausb:

So What Now?
It isn't really a good idea to let them come out of their cage on their own when they re not tame. this is because if you leave them to it they think that they have managed to scare you away and are able to come out without you.
