Hi every one. After the demise of Henry I have been concentrating on my Aviary birds, 3 separate pairs looking like they want to lay, hens in boxes with cocks standing guard, but no eggs at this stage. Any how this post is to introduce "Ghost" he is an albino, pure white and pink eyes. Seems so far to be healthy and is becoming use to being handled and played with quite quickly.

He is beautiful. Now though I am wondering about the three white babies with red eyes my female has. I thought they were girls. So how can you tell he is a boy?

Hi Phoebes all 3 of your albino babies will be girls as genetically they have to be.

Ino is a sexed linked mutation so to get males mum would have to be an albino or lutino.

Ghost to me also looks like a hen but it is hard to see the true colour of the cere in the photos.

Cheers Jenny

Thank you Jenny. Two of the white budgies are going together to a home. I didn't want to send a boy and girl as they will be in the same cage.

Ghost is very beautiful and looks so tame, Paulie how have you achieved this in a mult-bird household?

Phoebes Ghost lives inside the house, so I am really the only one he sees. All of my other birds are in the aviary outside.

Ghosts sex is still a matter of conjecture. Today his cere is a pail egg blue with lighter circles around the nostrils, other days it is quite pink so really a bit more time will tell I'm not to fussed either way. Ghost is a real little character, he has his cage where his food and bed are, the door is always open so he can come and go as he likes most of the time. I have set up a perch near where my computer is and he will come and sit there and make a *** of a racket until i pay him some attention. He will also hop into his cage when he wants to go to sleep and chatters quite angrily directly at me until i turn off the light.

He is a funny little dot.

I will have the people who are taking one white budgie home read this. They were wondering how they would tame her. Most of my birds came to me adult. I had the choice but everyone seemed to choose babies and the adults were sitting like rejects in another cage. The sad thing is once they are more than six months old they are transferred to the adults cage in the pet shop. I got six of them and they are all together in the budgie room. Only one little outgoing guy named Charlie pays any attention to me.

I see all the talking budgies on you tube and think "wow" that would be something if one of mine talked. Hopefully some of these babies will learn from their new families. You must have been awfully proud to hear him talk.

Our Spangle Opaline grey hen produced 3 (2 survived) albino hens approx. 11 months ago, one I gave my sister who they named Milkshake and Milkshake now talks, Milkshake resides within a covered in rear veranda next to a Cockatiel named Spot and Spot's owner says 'hello Spot' everyday & Milkshake now says 'hello Spot'. Milkshake's sister, Hedwig which we kept is not talking.

We now have Snow a 4 month old albino hen from the same Spangle Opaline grey hen inside next to our 11 month old Cockatiel, Cinnamon, who is wolf whistling and starting to say 'hello' and beeps like the microwave etc, so we are hoping things might rub off on Snow.

We would like to get a nice size albino cock to pair with Hedwig (who is a nice size hen @ 11 mths) next year to get some albino boys.

What a funny little tinker Ghost is. She would make it difficult to concentrate but who needs to work when there are such distractions. Thanks for sharing : )

Kiwi, Couldn't say exactly what age she spoke, got her from a pet shop on a whim. First time I've had a hen that is this bonded, would live on my shoulder if let her.

Kiwi

Just took a look back over this thread and i estimate would have been abt 90-100 days
