I told her that I am thinking of getting another budgie, and she reckons I should get a different type of small parrot instead. Her logic is that they will still have a friend if it's another species, but the flocking instinct won't be as strong with another species so the two of them will be good company while still remaining very tame towards me. What are your thoughts? I am still set on getting another budgie because I am happy with budgies, and am also happy to compromise on some degree of the tameness for the sake of my budgies having likeminded companions although I must admit I did fall in love with some beautiful peachfaces at a pet shop the other day Link to comment

The tame birds I have are 3 Quakers, a Lovebird and an Eclectus. Mind you, they all hate eachother . If you want them to remain tame while becoming friends with eachother, I'd suggest a timid Cockatiel or a Grass parrot. There aren't that many types of birds that get along with tame budgies. He was fascinated when I got my very gentle cockatiel. He begged to be introduced and promptly gave my tiel what for. Now I have eight tiels. I can tell you they all run for cover when the budgies are out. My little budgie hen is ferocious in her dislike of the tiels. If I lock up the tiels, the budgies spend most of their out-of-cage time on the tiels' cages tormenting them. In my opinion, if you have just the one budgie and want another bird, it'd probably be better to get another budgie. Edited April 25, 2009 by Catherine Link to comment
