Do you buy premixed seed or purchase different types and mix yourself and if so what types of different seed do you mix together. Derek Link to comment

I go for the finch mix rather than the budgie mix though, it's got a lot more variety in it. Looks to have a few types of millet, the little oat/wheat seeds, and a few others which i won't even pretend to be able to name. It's a nice clean mix and i've been using it for quite a while now. The indoor budgies get Trill Finch Mix which has even more variety again, i would get that for the aviary ones if i could get it in bulk like i do the other type. Link to comment

It’s got a mixture of a few Millets, but not so much of the large white one, which other mixes had, as I don’t think birds like that too much, they love it if you plant it & feed the seed heads green, but don’t seem to like the dry seed so much. Canary seed & hulled Oats. I buy 5 bags of the Budgie mix & one bag of Small parrot mix, which has Sunflower & Saffron, which I mix in. I agree with others often a Finch mix has more variety & I may buy some Pure Canary to add later. Link to comment

Now, everything gets eaten Less mess to clean up after and hopefully less rodents attracted haha! Link to comment

Ssome of the ingredients are white and red proso millet, canary grass seed, oat groats, flax seed, rape seed, nyjer seed, hemp seed. So far my birds far prefer it to any mix I've ever used before, and the seed is very clean. Link to comment

Anyone in NSW know a stockist for the Golden Cob seed mentioend above? I find that most produce stores stock it…it's supposed to be good, but it's one of the most expensive I think. The mix I use is just over $30 per 20 kilo bag, but I think it's more like $50. On the Hemp seed, yes it’s supposed to be great for birds…when I was young you used to be able to buy it at birds seed stores, maybe it was denatured so you couldn’t grow it, but it wasn’t a problem in those days…my favourite store was Austen Seeds at Sydney railway…don’t think there would be too many around now that remember that place, I used to love it had just about anything you could think of for birds I used to buy British Cage bird newspaper every week. About 1955…sigh…LOL. Edited June 23, 2008 by Norm Link to comment
