I was up bright and early this morning, so I decided to go out and candle the four eggs I have thus far. I didn't want to get all excited for no reason, as her last round was all clear. Great news. I candled all four and two have definate veins. The other two didn't, however, they are probably the last two laid, making them 3 and 1 day old and therefor wouldn't show any signs yet anyway... So, as you might expect, I am very excited!!! I'm very keen to get some greenies, as Tweet Tweet (the invader) is the only green budgie I have. Fingers crossed. I'm happy now to leave the eggs alone, and won't be re-candling them again (unless they are overdue). I wish 18 days went quicker Link to comment

When will she stop??? Mum, Dad and eggs are all looking good. Dad had a nice feed of grass and native branches today, but was not interested in the freshly made egg/shell/carrot etc... mix... grrr. The other birds are becomming quite interested in what is going on, and have tried on many occasions to get into the area where the breeding cage is. Cheeky things! She's also pilled up the wood shavings at the other end too, and just sits on eggs and the wooden base. Who knows why? Link to comment

I have just put a small piece of wood accross the edge, as I'm always worried the eggs will fall out when she moves . Tweet Tweet is either eating, sitting near the box, sitting on the perch which comes out of the nest box, or in it. He is not in their often, but does go in to feed her. Maybe that's why she's down the door end... so he can just hop in without landing on her??? Link to comment

There was still only 8 this afternoon, so here's hoping 8 it is. I candled them this morning, and 6 out of 8 are fertile :hap: Just a question... Does the hen know which eggs are fertile and which are not??? This same hen left her first clutch last year and they were all clear. Now, she seems to have the two 'empties' either near her when she's sitting or just under her. It just seems to make sense... or maybe I'm just making it up ! So, for those who have read about my Granny, I wont be around tomorrow or most of Sunday, which will be hard as that's when Crackle and Tweet Tweet are 'expecting'. I have given Dad very strict instructions of how to check the nest box etc... and other bits and pieces... I kind of hope it's a day late so I don't miss out. I'd just feel more comfartable not being 4 hours away, but I can't help that. Link to comment
