It has been so hot over here and I can't stand walking all the way to my aviary to wet the birds every few minutes so, I got my Dad to help me make a "shower" for the aviary that you connect to the hose.

It is just a few mist sprinklers that shoot into one side of the aviary away from food sources.

The birds really like it.

What a great idea! My budgies would love it :) Sounds like it has been really hot over there. Many WA members have commented on it... Cold over here in VIC. Today is the warmest it's been in while... kinda nice in the sun 23 C. I don't like it really hot, but come on!!!!! It's summer. Maesie xxx

it 40-43 in perth. i heard that u shouldn't wet ur birds or wash down ur cage because it can spread diseases from bird to bird and you can end up with ur whole flock dead. is this true or not because my budgies have been really suffering from the heat and i havent been wetting them because of this. the only thing i can do is wetting down the side of cages and putting up soaked towels trying to cool down there cage and block out the sun

If you have a budgie in a cage and its hot you can mist it with a spray bottle. If you have an avairy you can lightly mist or spray them down when they are hot. I point the hose in a corner of ther aviary and the ones that want it or need it come fly through.

Disease transfers from wet soil in the ground if it is there.

I have been spraying my birds every hot day with no troubles.

We had a warm(not ure 40's but in the 30's) today, and after a few tries, ernie let me spray him with the water bottle. He had his wings raised right up and it was very cute... although he did nearly loose his balance a few times :bluebudgie: I bet they'd like your shower too. I'll bring my 'kids' over for a 'swim' someday... :D

Thats cool , sorry about the pun ...

i am putting a similar thing in my aviaries when i move soon but am making the hose a dripper hose along the one wall kind of like a water fall with a catch tray along the bottom that will run back to the original water source this will recycle with a small water pump

I just wanted to make inimportant point here. When setting up a system like this it is important to be sure that the hose is not sitting in the sun with water resting in and then turned straight on without clearing the hose first as the water that comes out will be VERY hot. There are a few options, insulate the hoses (or bury them), make sure water cannot sit in the hose by having no loops in the hose where water can sit and disconnecting it from the faucet after use so the water drains out of the hose or clearing the hot water out of the hose ppointing it away from the budgies until cold water comes though.

This is so true....I keep telling my husband not to turn his system straight on in his aviary on hot days and to do just what you said :D
