  1. Hi and welcome to the forum. He's definitely opaline, opaline just puts body colour into the wings and the amount of colour will vary from bird to bird and I also think he may be grey wing. In recent times they have figured out that green birds can also be yellow face (which is a bit hard to tell because they always have yellow faces), so he could be carrying yellow face which will explain the yellow in the wings. In saying all that if he was colony bred he could be a mix of everything. The fact that he has no throat spots could mean he has spangle in him because often opaline spangles don't have them.
  2. It makes you wonder what he's thinking
  3. Just an update of my pied. I know another one, I'm excited lol

Great photo. What a cheeky girl
  5. I'm thinking Opaline Golden Face Mauve. He's very beautiful
  6. I agree with Flip . I also use Passwells egg and biscuit mix, I 've tried other brands and they didn't like it. I also lost a male when the chicks were less then 2 weeks old and the hen did a great job and they weaned the same as any of my other chicks.
  7. the 0 is just used as a symbol and the one comes from the 11 (2011), the symbol changes every year eg this year is a triangle and 4 for 2014. he looks like he has scaly mite, I would put some ivermectin on him
  8. Have you put seed in the box so she doesn't have to come out? She sounds she's doing well, I'd just leave her and keep a close eye on her.
  9. His hatch date will be anywhere between 1st September 2010-31st August 2011. The letters will be his breeder code and the 152 will be his identifying number. If the breeder takes good records he should have been able to tell you when he hatched. If it is just a weight problem he needs exercise and low fat seeds. Hopefully someone who knows about seeds might be able to tell you which ones, I know definitely NO oats
  10. Sorry for your loss Some times what can happen at night is they can get a fright and fly into something e.g. perch or wall and it can kill them. Just keep an eye on the newer birds if you didn't quarantine them before adding them to the aviary.
  11. Phoebes have you tried the feeders that hang on the outside with only a narrow bit that goes through the cage and only their beaks can fit where the seeds are? I once had a budgie that used to kick out the seed every time I filled it and then realised she would chase the others away, eat her favourite seeds off the top and then dig down throwing seed EVERWHERE to try and find more of that seed.
  12. I agree with Paulie and Flip, she should be able to cope as long as she has food and water close by and seed in the box, I wouldn't take the eggs either. Good luck
  13. After a very depressing breeding season I only ended up with another 2 chicks from the plucker and yes she did it again so I will not be breeding with her again! And for some good news I finally bred my first pied!!! YAY!!! Chick 1 (plucked) Chick 2 my pied

    You have your hands full
  15. I'd still go with the first cage, cages with pointy rooves are a waste of space for budgies. The more horizontal flying room the better to keep your budgie healthy and happy. It should be fine to change the cage if you have to. If you can cover the cage when you transport it to reduce the stress of the move.
  16. Nawww they look so cute all snuggled up. I was not your fault.
  17. KiwiBudgie you need to make the cage as dark as you can, so you just use what ever you have. Some birds don't need it and can handle going to their new home and some really don't, they go into a bit of shock and they feel safer being left alone in the dark. You will usually hear them when they are starting to feel better because they start to vocalise but it may take a few days.
  18. No there's nothing you can really do except give it some time and keep it covered. Don't worry about it not eating they sometimes do that, it will eat when it's hungry enough. Is it a young budgie?
  19. The skin on the apple is fine as long as it is washed well, the problem with the seeds is they contain very mild doses of arsenic which is bigger animals or humans has no affect but they are to small and can be poisoned.
  20. Sorry about your baby, but as Robyn said there are a lot of reasons that babies die. It looks like it had been fed but its belly looks a bit yellow, it may have just been a weaker chick or had some type of infection. Good luck with the rest of the eggs and the chick you already have.
  21. Hi, some budgies don't do very well when they have been moved. Cover the cage with a towel so it's in the dark, they feel safer that way and give it a few days to adjust. I wouldn't add anything to the cage until it is a bit more settled.
  22. I vote rachelms pinkie
  23. If you want a specific pair to bond you will have to put them in a separate cage and if you want a bird like him you will have to put him with a blue series hen not green
  24. In the photo the perches are long and running side to side but for budgies it is better for them if they run front to back, even though the perches are shorter it gives them more room to fly between them.
  25. Hi KiwiBudgie, young hens often start off with a pale blue ceres and not all have white which can make it harder to sex some young hens until it starts to change to brown and male lutinos mostly have a pink or flesh coloured cere it doesn't change to blue.
