  1. yes they have an iris ring
  2. the hens cere should just start to be going brown not dark brown as you have missed the most active time she should be chewing everything in site the male will have a nice dark blur cere and be hopping around bobing up and down the young hen is to young to breed minimum 12 months and in my experiance the older hen is rite at the last of her breeding age any hen over three years has more problems ie egg bound also if you put them together how do you know the cock bird will not pair up with the young hen? i introduce my pairs together normally late evening so they settle quicker ready for action the next morning no they dont need to be if you check the nest box twicw a day morning and evening she will get use to it this is for two reasons first to keep an eye on the hen and second to check for eggs and then chicks

the older members on here might remember that i have a bird that suffers fron seizures she is now 4 or 5 years old and lives with the other birds in my retirement flights she seems quite happy

grit is one thing here people will not agree on i feed mine grit although in small amounts about a finger tray every 10 to 14 days i believe that although they dont need it for the seed it is benificial for keeping the gizzard free from ulcers i can only point out that wild budgies that are found dead when checked have found to have eaten grit but it is a personal choice
  6. it looks pretty much like my hens when out of condition you can get males with brown ceres but this is down to ilness

i wait 21 days if their are no eggs by then i would seperate them and leave the hen alone for approx 7 to 10 days with no access to the nest box then i would put the new male in with her

    red eyes albino
  13. if you kept doing this your birds would lose size over the years but as you are not going to show it shouldnt be a problem the best matings to produce violets in order of getting most violets are are violet mauve x violet blue, violet x violet blue , violet mauve x violet, violet x violet this last pairing gives you the least chance of a violet chick giving you the expectations of sky, sky split violet, cobalt, violet, mauve, mauve split violet
  14. i know birds have different commen names per country daz but surly if 95% of people know a bird by golden face instead of a Parblue Mutant II we should use the most commen i mean it doesnt really affect me as i know about the mutations ect but i was thinking for people who are just starting out ive had a look at all my books and the likes of Parblue Mutant II, Dilute Mutant I dont get a mention including all my budgerigar world mags which are available world wide and have many articles from people in australia

the only problem with that hommer is that some hens get used to the nest boxs and wont come out long enough to mate and you end up with clear eggs
  16. hath replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
homer this was one of my ideas are you sure she is not a he (tumor ?) you will always get a bird who does not want to breed and its usually one of the ones you want to the most i would keep trying different cloured males
  17. it certainly does i was under the impression that this was a budgie mutation book not a general parrot book and i have to agree with bea and that people should really use the commen names not general parrot names ive bred and showed budgies for years and i was confused so people who are new stand no or little chance if we are all using different descriptions
