your chicks are to old to foster i clean my boxs every 2 to 3 days when the chicks are this old
  3. here you go nerwen 1 Yes the Novice breeder should use these pairs, because the two pairs of normal birds should produce normal young and if they don't you will learn what hidden features are within these birds. The third pair are both blue and sex-linked. All young cocks will all be normals split for Cinnamon and Opaline while the you hens will be Cinnamon blues. 2 Dominant Pied to Normal gives 50% Dominant Pied and 50% Normal Green to Blue give 100% Green split blue All chicks are green Both cock and hen carry one dark factor which means that 25% will Light Green 50% will be Dark Green and 25% Olive Green. 3 A Budgerigar without both primary tail feathers is not a complete bird and if, shown will be severely penalised. 4 The cock will probable never get over it You could try isolating him with a good quite hen over a long period then move them to a breeding cage. 5 Using a hopper is a convenient way to feed our birds, especially if our time is limited. However, it's not the best method for over-weight birds. Feeding them late afternoon by throwing seed on the floor is better. You regulate the amount of seed so that none remain to next afternoon. Your birds will be more active and not overweight. Remove items such as oats and groats from the seed mix. 6 A normal pair of budgerigars should produce all normals. Sky Blue to Sky Blue should all be Sky Blue. The Cobalt is not possible neither is the Light Green. Spangle is a dominant variety so is not possible from this mating. Opaline and Cinnamon are sexed linked varieties which can be carried hidden by the cock but not the hen. If the cock is split for Opaline and Cinnamon then all the chicks showing this feature will be hens 7 If the Grey Green cock split blue is a medium Grey green then every colour is possible. Light Green, Dark Green, Olive, Grey Green Light, Medium and Dark, Sky Blue, Cobalt, Mauve and all can also carry the violet modifier with the Cobalt carrying this factor will be visible Violet 8 Yes she can breed. Be careful of your selection of cock that it's not related. You may inbreed this fault. An injured or deformed bird is not a complete bird for the show bench. 9 If the bird had lost its tail feathers while benched the Judge may be lenient and not penalize the bird heavily. In this case the tail feathers in the show cage are from another bird. The tail feathers of a Grey Green are black. 10 Grey.

this was printed in the budgerigar this month Protect your birds from the risk of avian (bird) flu If you keep birds, simple biosecurity measures can help to protect them, for example: ? Feed and water your birds indoors. ? Keep your birds away from wild birds as much as possible. ? Keep everything clean - spilled feed, litter and standing water attract wild birds and vermin. ? Make sure your clothes, footwear and hands are clean before and after contact with your birds. Visitors should do the same. Be vigilant! If your birds are sick, contact your vet immediately. Signs to look out for include: ? breathing problems; ? loss of weight; and ? falling egg production. Good biosecurity makes sense at all times. if it has started to happen again then its the vets this is called clag and is normally a sighn of something else if left untreated clag can kill a bird as well as the other problem
  7. sorry homer but if their overweight to a degree that they cant get on top then i would seriously look at the diet all my birds are show can fly and mate you should know by 6 months as to whether its going to be a good bird i have to agree it shows promise
  8. 4 out of 6 not bad (evan with a little help) :bluebudgie:
  9. the spots can be plucked or cut out cut out is best as this last all season if you pull you will have to do it at least twice and mabe up to 3 times but if you cut the wrong spot then you have to try and pluck the remaining bit out and this is not easy lin to bring a birds feathering into condition he needs to be sprayed every other morning for three weeks with warm water (a good spraying) and left to preen and dry himself then after that use cold water and spray him twice a week this should see towards the end of the two weeks water bouncing of him as his feathers come into condition with their natural oils if (your water is hard boil it first)

  16. a little quiz for anyone to have a go 1 A novice breeder who has purchased three pairs, a Sky Blue cock and hen, a Light Green cock, and hen, a Cinnamon Cobalt and a Violet Opaline hen, asks you if he should pair them this way. What pairing would you suggest and why? 2 You pair a Dominant Pied Dark Green with a Cobalt hen, what are the expected breeding results? 3 Your best Grey Green hen loses both primary tail feathers during the week before the show. Would you show this bird at the show? 4 One of your best cock birds was attacked by a hen. She removed half of the cere. After it healed you placed this cock with another hen in the breeding cage. He has nothing to do with the hen, always moving to the furthest corner. She laid clear eggs. Would you keep this cock? 5 On your inspection of the birds in your aviary, you notice that a few cocks and hens are fat. You remove there to a small wire cage and they put on more weight. You use a hopper as a seed container. Should you. change you method of feeding? Are there other changes you can make in your husbandry? 6 A pair, Sky Blue cock and a Sky Blue hen, with five chicks:- 1. Opaline Sky Blue hen. 2. Sky Blue cock. 3. Spangle Cobalt hen. 4. Cinnamon Opaline Sky Blue hen, 5. Light Green hen. Is this possible? What should you note in your records for this cock and hen? 7 When I started with Budgerigars, an experienced breeder asked if I liked coloured birds and I said yes. His reply was that I should buy a good Grey Green, split blue cock and mate it to a Violet hen. Why do you think he made this suggestion? 8 A Light Green hen has a dislocated hip, which cannot be put in a show but can she be used in the breeding cage? Why can't she be entered in a Show? 9 The Judge is judging a class of Grey Green hens and notices a bird which has lost its dark blue primary tail feathers both of which are lying on the floor of the cage. The cage is placed second for most of the time while judging takes place. The Judge then asks the Steward to remove this hen as it's disqualified. Do you know why? 10 What is the cheek patch colour of a Spangle Grey Green cock? these aren't my questions but came from a good source i'll give the answers soon but please have a go
  17. Okay, here goes Condition: Feathers aren't sitting neatly it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to get a bird into condition so wouldnt expect these to be Length: Hmm, not sure on this, but in the first picture it might be that his head is a bit small? cant tell as there is nothing to compare but should be around eight and a half inches Type: His beak isn't tucked into his feathers, front line is tapering out from beak, but don't know if sufficient, stance looks good, not perching at the rite degree to straight in body front and back doesnt have the swagger look Head: doesn't appear to be what I would think of as 'bold, wide and rounded' in the first picture, but appears more so in the second picture. (This is soo hard, because He's just gorgeous, I feel like I'm picking him to shreds). He's got the feather thing from his cere, although it doesn't extend down at the back as far at it should doesnt have the upward outwards sweep and a little narrow across the eyes giving a pinched look cuts down a little quick behind the head as well Wings: Don't appear to conform. its a little hard to see if they meet as stated Neck: unsure fine Shoulders: appears wide, but wide enough? lack of width and substance Eyes: Yes, 2. Appears to conform Lack of backskull Mask: Completely don't understand this short and unevan Spots: Has 6 major ones (how on earth do people 'remove' them?) not spaced evenly little small Cheek Patches: conforms' little out of shape Markings: No idea from what i can see fine Beak: Not tucked in beak looks fine but doesnt have the feather growth around it Cere: Conforms lacking condition but to be expected as this bird has not been brought into condition Colour: Appears even to me looks even hard to tell Legs and Feet: Conforms fine Lenght of Body: No idea hard to tell Tail: Apart from being ratty in that picture, appears to conform appears fine if not a touch short my answers in bold julie please dont be offended you have to be criticle and follow the standards but people must remember that this bird has not gone the 6 to 8 weeks of conditioning that is needed to bring a show bird up to standard and has also not been trained in a show cage

it must be one *** of a subject to kill millions of birds to cover it up it looks like all bird shows and sales are going to be banned unless you can get an expert to say they are safe (who this expert will be i dont know) a big farmers show up here has banned poultry and pigeons also all live bird imports are to be banned as well
