  1. Scrunch up the leaves and have a smell, you can usually smell if it has a strong eucalyptus smell or not.

I use tree branches from my gum tree. It varies the size of the perch and my birds love it. Much better for the bird I think, to have different perches. Exercises the feet and toes.

I have a bag of bay leaves in my feed bin. Just put holes in the plastic and dropped in the bag. No moths in my bird room.

If you are going to breed them then it is much better for them to hear the other birds chatting away. So keep them near..
  14. Looks like a female to me...Not too old..Male looks older..Could be the reason they are fighting a bit, he might want to mate and she is not ready. They should settle down soon...
  15. Pretty sure you can't get it here in Oz... Try emailing The birdcare company who make and distribute it.. They can tell you if available here or maybe they can send some to you. Their prices for rest of world...40 g £8.20 80 g £12.60 300 g £31.30 as advertised on their website. plus postage I would imagine. Not too expensive you can buy with someone else. they have retailers in the US and Asia might be able to get cheaper through them.. Hope this helps.

Hey Taz did she look like this ? Hen is blue ringer. 2 nice cock birds there. Cinnamon light green and cinnamon opaline Green or grey green. Both a bit too old, black and green rings. A handy looking Dom pied hen also, but had a large lump or cyst near its vent.

Yeah Mel is always chasing Lacewings. The DB bird is a blue ringer, Cinn Opal spangle grey. Have only just started back in birds myself so nothing to sell at this stage. I breed reccessives but only have A few breeding pair purchased from HH2 and a couple of babies that I have bred this year. Will keep my eyes and ears open though.

A couple of pieds just fledged. Heavily marked but will be handy. Had a greygreen pied as well with perfect wings, unfortunately he got his leg tangled up in the cage front, and had to be put down due to his injuries and stress.. Another picture.... different angle..

Nah not mine TAZ . I picked up a handy spangle at ATB Mornington a week ago...1 of DB's... Worth dropping in every now and again for a look...Were they Tassie rung birds ? They quite often get S.A. birds in too... Called into the F1 stud a few weeks ago.. There was not a lot on offer...

Same here splat.. I always got good seed from Max and never got patterson's curse in my back yard...( I did find a nice judging stick in a bag once ) .. Just when tested by quarantine that is what they found so i could not receive it. Had a choice of sending it back or have it destroyed. Max did say at the time that it was growing everywhere up there, and it probably is not a problem to bring into other states. But Tasmania is so strict on what you can and cannot bring into the state. Does anyone use Ellenbee seed as it is suppose to be certified, and can be brought into Tasmania. Leeton seed can be brought in also, it just needs to be tested and certified. Something that needs to be done before leaving Leeton, and the test still needs to be paid for whether it passes or not.( by memory test was around $100 ). A few years ago now so could be cheaper now.. When i had it tested in the past I had 1 pass and 2 fail, so decided not to worry about it anymore. We also need to submit a notice of intent to import seeds. Hi Rachel, I am in the south and only know of 1 avian vet in Hobart. I believe what we can currently buy in the pet shops and produce stores has been treated. I think the cost is the highway between Tassie and the mainland. Expensive bit of road that.

I use Tassie budgie mix......$46 for 25kg...Not a great mix, lots of little seeds wasted. Not too much other variety down here. Will look at bringing some in again, when bird room is up and running.

Update time.. Not much has happened due to work and weather. This is the shed that I was going to use as a birdroom. 3.75 mt X 3.75 mt..... Height is 183 cm wall and 215 cm room. Nice size but a bit low in the roof. This is the shed that I am going to use instead. 3.5 mt wide X 4 mt long X 2.3 mt high Flat roof. "> I like this shed also because it has an internal frame... Will make it easier to line it out... Will need to add a window later and some laserlite sheets on the roof.. "> Also need to add a bit more concrete to slab... "> Was hoping to get it done this weekend but the forecast is for more rain ... New shed will go where the green one is...

I bought avigrain breeders mix but it has hardly any canary seed in it all.... this is why i get the canary one its got every thing the same as the breeders mix but more canary the avi grain finch has even parts of all seeds we get ripped off up here but oh well i get 3.50 off each bag so ... im happy enough as i really didnt like the change in the clubs seed but thats me my birds prefer what they are getting now as well so its what counts less wastage no scrounging through it for things well i dont trust their seed and if you look at it it has shoots on the seed dead ones its tryed to sprot then died its dry light and i cant get it to grow so thats what changed my mind on it Which seed is that GB ?

I did bring seed to Tassie in the past from Leeton..( Max Douglas ).. And it had traces of Pattersons curse in the seed. Pallet was quarantined in Tassie and sent back to NSW at my cost....... TAZ talk to blair / poole or Charlesworth .. I believe they are bringing in seed from Ellenbee by the pallet that has been certified.
