Yesterday i got a new show budgie from a friend of mine that had him with 5 cockatiels he feels thin i can feel his keel bone and hes really light, it also had really bad scaly face and feet with over grown nails i treated him with scatt yesterday and clipped his nails today he appeared to be eating seeds but prefers millet and bread, might he be thin due to the him being in a cage with just cockatiels and the mites??

ah okay thank you Well in the cage were i have her setup with a male for breeding the male is really quiet and shes always on the side of the cage where the Australian male budgies are chirping about, and well i think I'm have to get her a new male that's more chirpy and that has intrest in her, because the curent male he feeds her occasionally but never trys to mount her they've been set up for 3 weeks now, do you suggest me getting her a diff male?

ever since i got her (show budgie) 2 months ago her cere hasn't changed color, my other Australian budgie i purchased at the same time also had her cere that color and know its all brown and in breeding condition is something wrong with her?? what can i do or feed her to see if i can get her into condition, Ive had her with her partner ever since i bought her

Today i went to a pet-store that Ive been going to all my life to and i really trust what they tell me, and the owner told me that my budgies might just have dry skin due to the environment and that i could mist em with a spray bottle and also that if i had changed there food that could be another factor to them being itchy

Mate ...the legring hasnt anything to do with her foot issue at all. The only time a budgies foot will swell around a legring making it necessary to cut it off is when scaly face mites affect their feet and cause scaly build up under the legring. All legrings put on show budgies are put on at age 5-6 days and are with them for life not affecting them in any way. The sizes are right for them with plenty of room unless they get an issue with scaly. Its not due to ring being too small. it shouldnt as long as she can grip the perch well enough. I have 2 months with her Ive been treating her for scaly face mites and shes making progress her beak is looking way better now, ill try to post pictures of just her whole leg Ah okay thanks

Thank you Will her claws being forward affect them when mating?? her claw is like that due to a small ring being placed on her leg i cut the ring off because the leg had began to get swollen Thank you Amy when i first saw her i loved the coloring on her XD No i did not buy them from the same person to avoid line breeding them i think that was smart of me in a way The leg is messed up due to the leg ring/band being too small for the bird so i removed it because the leg was beginning to get swollen Thanks for the advice thou really appreciate it Thank you for all this information i have high expectations of my birdies hopefully it all goes well and ill be posting pictures up

what colors are they?? i believe my cock is a spangle grey green but I'm not sure about the female hopefully it all goes well once i set em up for breeding so i can post pictures of the process its my first pair of show birds Ive ever owned, I'm very happy about the pair i bought what do you think about my selection?

Your friend must be wrong........sorry. You have treated with SCATT which is ivermectin or should I say Moxidectin and you have treated with mite spray. Avomectin and Moxydectin treatments are similar to Ivermectin Both of which will kill any mites. You might well be confusing normal preening and scratching with presence of mites. Dont get too carried away or you will overdose and poison your birds. My budgies are constantly scratching themselves, Ive used Scatt to treat the mites on the face and feat, Ive also used a mite and lice spray on my birds and they are still scratching all the time, is this normal? they are not moulting any feathers, are there any alternatives i can use to get rid of mites and lice ?? or what else can it be?
