Mid 2011 Breeding Journal
Would you mind Dave if I called one of my soon to be chicks, omlette. I think the name suits a budgie and would like to name one. You can say no if you like. It's just I like all your birds names. Also would you mind Caesar?

G & G 2010/2011 Breeding Season
My avian vet told me that the size of each chick from one of my pairings would be massive. Like little monsters. Anyway, if one is really big, nubbly, would it be okay to call it Holy Cr@p? HC for short, or is the name copyrighted, LOL. I know you didn't name your that because if his size, but I think it suits a massive, big budgie. You can say no if you want, I just wanted to know if it's okay by you, I absolutely love yor budgies, I adore them.

Moglet's First Journal
For photos moglet check out my breeding journal I think titled Taylors Breeding Journal. Both sugar and Spice are normal blues. I am gonna leave them in there till either tomorrow arvo or Monday. Gonna put the breeding boxes in on the weekend if I find the time. I am a serious breeder, but this year I'm not showing, Im not in a club and not likely to show so I'm not gonna ring mine unless I get super serious. I would be too shy to join a club and plus, I have no idea how to ring a baby budgies, let alone how old they have to be, to be rung! My plans at the moment are to get over this years breeding season and maybe next year I will join a club. Prob is that the club closest to me, the one I will most likely join, have meetings at 8pm on Thursday's. My rents are okay with it though. The more I think about it, the more I wanna join, but definitely next year after this years breeding season I'll ask my rents if I can join. It sound like you can get a lot of info and tips. Im afraid I'll be the only 13 yr old, 14 next year, there at the club. I am really not that adventurous when it comes to clubs. I'm a bit shy.

Red sounds like such a little character! Are fledgling like Lucky always that confident around you? Like are they never scared? Or have they been tamed? Cause I now this might sound a bit redonkulous, but when mine breed, have chicks and become fledglings, I would love one that just hangs around with me all day. And yes, I said redonkulous instead of rediculus, our teacher doesn't let us... Also if they are tamed to be so friendly, how do you do it? I would like to know for future reference. I keep forgetting to post that we have found some breeding cabinets at a bird shop I think in nunawading. The boxes that are placed inside the cabinets look smaller than the ones I've seen on here. They aren't as deep. I mean like this way / / / Not this way / / / I will ask the guy to take them down from the shelf so I can have a look. I don't need the cabinets till next year but hopefully if I get some $$$ for Xmas I'll buy some cabinets. I will get them though in the end.

R&t's Breeding Journal
Oh sorry, I thought you meant she had laid 4 eggs and I'm like "how does she know she's gonna lay 4 more" but yes that makes sense. How long after being layed do they hatch? When the first egg hatches, how long till the others?

I hope they are big chicks too,! With the cobalt and sky hen mentioned above, why do you say 4 more to go. Or is that just a random guess, or how many they produced last clutch?

Sugars cere is blue but not like a males royal blue colour. On the sides of her cere I can see tan but I don't know whether it is fading away or she is coming into season. I was always told that in hens, tan cere equals normal/ ready to breed, dark brown and flaky equals getting out of breeding and light blue-tan meant not in breeding condition? We go to the beach every 1-2 months and we get cuttlefish fish to clean and give them, massive pieces too, even two hands in length! Only once we clean it though. I also have a container of shell grit which I noticed Sunny was digging in... Is that a sign too?

My budgie, peppa, I got in 04 when I was 6 yrs old. We got him from a guy named Vince, but I can't remember his last name?.?. Anyway, he gave pep to me for free and in my breeding journal on this forum, I think Splat was saying how good quality he was and others agreed. Apparently, according to my avian vet Dr Colin Walker, he could be worth up to or over thousands, his chicks would have been hundreds. But pep is old now, 7, and his girl isn't as good of quality. I hope that explains things Kaz.

Thanks. Literrally after writing and sending my previous post, sugar was crawling upside down on the cage and she was tunneling under the newspaper. I ripped open part of the paper bread bag and she crawled in and had a great time. I think the warmthof being in the house, and being away from the others and only have her partner spice in there helped her. Thanks for your info, and to me, you know a lot!! PS. Cyber safety rules!!! LOL PPS sugar and spice have supposedly bred before. But I'm gonna give then a chance like you said.

Thanks, none of my budgies have long vent feathers, except for my grey normal cock inside but he is old and I'm not gonna breed him. I found out on this forum that he is worth thousands and his chicks easily worth hundreds! I can't believe I got him for free!

Thanks anyway moglet but Brisbane is a bit more than an hour, lol We are looking on such websites as gumtree and trading post for 2nd hand cabinets. We are going to the Melbourne premier auction in oct and breeders from all over aus are gonna be there. It's like the biggest auction in Australia. Kaz was gonna be there but other plans meant she couldn't. Thank you soo much again, even if you do live in another state, you will be my friend and I love your knowledge.

What Colour/mutations Are My Budgies?
Beautiful budgies. Can't help you with expectations there but I think the male may be blue spangle and I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here by saying blue spangle clearwing. Your other budgie is recessive pied. From the picture, yeah he/she is young as the black bands on her head are still close down her face. Adults black head bands are further back like your males. To me, pied budgies are hard to sex. Other more experienced people on this forum should know, but for now a closer picture of the cere (or nose) would be good. Any names yet?

Moglet's First Journal
Yeah Pride it's going well. Attached some wood to the bottom today to make the boxes straight. One pair sugar and spice, aren't likely to breed. He is in condition, she isn't, sugar had gone out a few weeks ago and today mum had to catch them and put them in a hospital cage. Spice doesn't know how to feed her properly and is getting regurgitated seed and beetroot all over her. She now just sits there sneezing everynow and then. Also her head feathers look ready to molt but haven't for weeks. Hopefully she gets better. I don't want them to breed if he can't feed her properly and then she has no seed to feed her chicks.

Moglet's First Journal
Going well thanks for asking. Mum and I got rid of the office supplies stored in there (I had lots of pencils when I was younger). All spiders and cockroaches are gone it's just a matter of taking out the desk, dad making some benches to put the cabinets on, applying cat proof flyscreen and putting some waterproof tape on the laser light. Gonna do some on the sept holidays, I go to a private school, the Knox school , so instead of curriculum days, we get an extra week of holidays (3) instead of (2). Trying to find some cabinets is proving difficult but I've gone for the 2nd hand idea now. Dads got a anti bacterial germ wash to soak them in when we get them to get rid of previous germ. I just keep looking on trading post, gum tree etc.
