  1. I grow silverbeet for my budgies. It grows all year round and is easy to grow, it even does well in a pot. Just pick the leaves as you need them(like coral, coz, butter lettuce). And they love it Also, i have added pellets to my budgies diet, at first i crushed them up and sprinkled over their seeds.

  4. Sorry no photos, i didn't buy her. A breeder at a bird expo/show told me she would be fine to breed. He was a member of a budgie club, he should know better. :hap: I hear that all too often. I say "I want to breed violets", someone gives me a grey and says "it had a violet parent, it should throw you a violet or two". Why? Because some breeders will tell you what you want to her to sell you what they want to get rid of. I have had this happen to me for the last 2 years and I think its small wonder we are losing so many opportunities to bring in new members or keep them in the hobby. Fortunately I have stayed with it because I love breeding, but im much much more picky these days... If it wasn't for this forum i wouldn't have even known what a splayed leg was. I am becoming more cautious. I didn't realise some breeders were so dodgy.
  5. The point being made is mostly about a persons state of health with feathers and dander and dust inb keeping a bird in the bedroom. I guess that can all be alleviated by keeoing things very clean and distrfree and vacuuming a lot. A friend of mine who suffers asthma and was hospitalised recently due to a really bad asthma attack, has a cage a budgies in her living room..............about 30 budgies. Too many for the cage they are in but she wont listen to me She still doesnt get it why she keeps having asthma issues. The dust and seed debris and dander in that house in incredible !! Even I cannot breathe over there, nor can my husband, so we sit out on their patio rather than sit amidst the dust and rather than trying and talk over the loud sounds of the budgies right next to us inside. We encouraged them to get an aviary for the birds to be outside. The aviary has sat there for 6 months or more and she still hasnt put the birds outside in it. She's not all that smart to say the least and trying to make her understand is very very hard This sounds like my mums house. She has her dinning room full of birds and when i walk into her house i get a very itchy face and nose. She is not so bad now but at one stage she had 2 budgies ,5 cockatiels, 1 sun conure, 1 canary, 1 galah all in separate cages. 1 little budgie in your bedroom would be fine Houman. You sound like you really care about the hygiene and health of your little friend so i doubt it will get out of control like my mums house.
  6. oh very sad story. The little guys were so lucky that you rescued them.
  7. Sorry no photos, i didn't buy her. A breeder at a bird expo/show told me she would be fine to breed. He was a member of a budgie club, he should know better.
  8. Hi, i nearly bought an adult budgie today, a very pretty light green opaline hen, then i noticed she had splayed legs. She could sit on the perch okay (one leg on perch and one out to the side) but i was a bit worried because i would be using her to breed. So my question is, is it okay to breed a hen with splayed legs?
  9. Today i attended the mornington peninsula bird sale and expo and came home with 3 new additions. They are all in quarantine in the garage at the moment and in a couple of months will go out into the avairy. I treated them with invermectin as soon as i got home. Is there any thing else i should give them? Please tell me what mutations they are. I can take some more photo's tomorrow in daylight. Sky blue? opaline cock (flash on) Cinnamon grey? hen (flash on) no flash colour? normal cock (flash off) in normal light he looks almost navy flash on
  10. Wow so clever. I'm just about to make some breeding cages and boxes also. Your cages look great. Where did you get your cage front from? Did you have to get them specially made?
  11. Hello and welcome. Bruce is very cute. What does he say? I also have family in England. :fingerscrossed:

    hi and welcome
  13. Those photos werent taken in the nestboxes....they were in an icecream tub for the photos. Nestbox materials ? I start out with flaky bran or rolled oats. At the stage of chicks being two weeks onwards the nestbox get a good serving of budgie seed to teach them to eat early. New piks Yes, did mean nesting material. Thank you

  17. such an interesting read
  18. Your babies are looking great Kaz. What substrate do you use in your nest boxes?
  19. Good to hear that you are okay. The shock can take awhile to get over.
  20. Hi Kaz, have you bred any of Omlette's babies yet (hens), and if so have they had large clutches or is Omlette a one of a kind super mum?

You must have a very healthy , non-polluted environment where you live, frogs are an indicator of that. Yes green tree frogs shed their skins, its kinda gross to watch and the first time i saw it i freaked out. They eat the skin from the bum up and use their hands to pull the skin off. The green tree frogs i have change colour from bright green to an almost black. Don't know why but sometimes they go very dark before they shed.
  23. Yes i will stick to plastic beads. The swings you have made are bright and colourful. I'd like to make some for my budgies. They have 1 plain one at the moment and there is always someone on it. Thanks for your advice.
  24. wow, swings look great. I might have a go. Is it okay to use wooden beads (coloured ones)?
  25. Your favourite is very pretty. What mutation/ sex/ colour is he? If i had to pick a favorite, it would be my little yellow face hen that is hand tame. She is great company and will just hang out with me all day.
