  1. i think you will be quiet happy if you do but to get more fellows in next years breeding you know what your doing their by looks best of luck are their eggs No eggs yet. They've just come out of quarantine cages. Will update when there's some action
  2. Thanks Kaz and GB. Yes, I was thinking variety over all. Ideally, if I had some good birds to put with the fallows for splits next year, I would have. I read somewhere the best fallows come from split/split pairings. Next year I will try cock from pair #1 to hen pair #3

I agree with GB here. If in doubt don't say anything, it only confuses the issue. Beginners like myself receive so much miss information, it becomes difficult to decipher truth from fallacy.
  6. When can I move in? The house is beautiful Kaz, love the veranda, high ceilings, polished floors. And hubby can retire, that's awesome.

  8. Thanks GB. I will let her fly and try her again next year
  9. Not sure. I might do some research.
  10. The youngest I have done is about 3 weeks. Maybe you could do it at two, I dont know about birds anatomy enough to say sorry. Thank you Squeak.
  11. Looking good Squeak. I like how you have explained your pairings. Looking forward to seeing your results.
  12. Chick #3 looks like he/she loves to nibble your hand Finnie. They are all so cute. What is the youngest age we can crop needle a chick Squeak? It's something I need to learn to do also.
  13. Update: I have taken away the nest box and the clear egg (not hers).
  14. I hope Finnie makes a speedy recovery. I'm glad to hear Donovan has taken over with the feeding of the chicks.
  15. I chose her a mate and she's been in breeding cage approx 6-7 weeks.
  16. Thanks Dean, I haven't noticed any egg shell or yolk stains or anything like that. Also she hasn't gone from anorexic to plump, she just seems to stay plump with an egg bum. All my other hens come out of their boxes for a few minutes after laying like you mentioned. Internal layer is the other possibility.
  17. This hen (green ring) still hasn't laid an egg. She sits in the nest box most of the time. Mates with the cock. Does huge poops. I thought maybe she might be eating her eggs, so this morning I gave her a clear egg from another nest and this afternoon its still in there and she is incubating it. I can't work out what is wrong with her and why she hasn't laid yet. Would it be best to take the nest away now? Cheers

They are german fallows because they have white iris ring. English fallows have solid red eye. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Fallow...erigar_mutation
  20. I feel like I've won the Lotto. LOL
  21. Hi Rachelm, All of my fallows trace back to John's stock and I have had a 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th at the nationals with them. With John's birds you are "fishing in the right pond". Cheers PT Congrats on your national wins, your fallows and clearbodies are stunning. Now I'm really excited
  22. Thank you for explaining Chookbreeder. I have 9 of John's fallows and splits. Hopefully have some luck with them.
  23. Here's a link http://www.lentradirect.com.au/contents/en-us/d5.html they have a few different fronts.
  24. I will say cock.
  25. I use dry porridge oats (quick oats).
