New Classes At Nationals
Im that enthused about the new classes that I dont even know what they will be , In saying that if I pair a heap of odd varieties together then im sure I will have something to fit in the proposed classes.

Show Budgie Breeders
PJ is right , You should be learning to breed a better bird , Not buy it . But then this brings us to the way the world is today and thats everyone can have everything instantily . The hobby doesnt have to be expensive if you dont want it to be , My best bird was bred from an outlay of $100 for stock birds and Three generations later. I always look at things different , If I was to Quit the Hobby that is the Exhibition of Pedigree Budgies. I would still have an aviary of pet budgies So I believe that when people leave and sell out its got to do with other factors. Also , If you are elevated to a higher status you have the right to appeal the regrading if you feel it is not warranted, Example you maybe a lesser variety breeder and gain points due to lack of exibits at shows and are elevated to quickly. The hobby is what YOU make it .

Combining Clearbody And Lacewing
Gb, if you put cinnamon into your clearbodies you will only be able to show the cinnamon clearbodies in the Non Standard class, I personally whould stay away from cinnamon , unless of course you are breeding for pet birds.

New Classes At Nationals
If we go back a couple of years , there was a huge debate over 3 birds being exhibited on the bench instead of 2 and one reserve . Now there was a massive debate over this and most of it came down to cost!! . I cant believe now we are talking about adding even more varieties . You can say good bye to the not so well off states hosting a National . It will end up being an Eastern sea board Comp. Goodbye Nationals!!, Then the hobby wouldnt be far from the Grave. I believe we need to start at the Matrix , not the Nationals, Stop destroying our existing varieties before adding new ones. Honstly when have you last seen a clearwing clearwing and not something somewhere between dilute&greywing . I can see this debate going for a while yet.

Need Help With Splayed Legs-Again....
Hi luce, Another possibility, your hen maybe sitting too tight , that is sitting hard on the chicks which forces the legs out , I had this problem years ago when I colony bred budgies, I put too big Marbles in the nest with the chicks , it kept the hen off the babies alittle too allow them to get strength in their legs. Matt.

More Questions
Gee Georgie that slab is going to be bigger than a single car garage. So , Formwork thats 90x35mm pine. will cost about $105 Reinforcement and bar chairs to hold it up $200 Concrete if you go for 100mm thick with a perimeter edge beam around. thats $700 Then you have to dig the ground and allow for a pump truck if you dont have easy access. Thats $1005.00 for materials and you do the labour yourself. I I am a builder.

4 Sections
My breeding room is about 3.4m x 2 m . I have 18 cabinets. Flights arent very big espeically for young birds as I dont like flighty birds, young birds scare the older birds and make them nervious, also when you box them for a show you want them to settle , if they come from a big flight they seem to muck around more.

Chickens Medicine

I cannot believe this thread is still going, Mate you did the right thing and took your bird to the Vet , You got treatment and you no doubt paid the vet. Why Question his experience on a community forum that has minimal experience with drug usage. If you are worried about the diagnosis then take your birds for a second opinion from another qualified Vet and pay them for your piece of mind.- Things To Think About
Hi Georgie, The Central Coast Budgie Club has its meeting on the 8th of February, its at the Tuggerah Hall , opposite Maccas and Hungry Jacks at Tuggerah , Starts about 7:30, Feel free to come along and have a chat to some members , Im sure they will give you some advice on their own setups. Theres a Service section for all your budgie needs and there will be some birds to look at also. Cheers, Matt.- Some Friendly Breeding Advice Wanted :)
I'd be careful with that rule. I have a hen who didnt sit until the 5th of 12 eggs were laid. All eggs were fertile but the first did not show signs until the 6th egg was laid. I will agree with you Dean, Thats what I love about this Hobby , There are so many ways to breed birds , look after them , close kept secrets, ETC, its an endless wonder. As long as someone has a relative reason for their actions and their not spining S***, we can all learn and enjoy the breeding and keeping of Budgies through or experiences. For me If I had a hen that did that , I would have fostered out the first 5 eggs , its all about knowing your birds Individually.- Some Friendly Breeding Advice Wanted :)
I mark the eggs as they are laid, ( Every afternoon) , You can use a lead pencil. But I use a waterbased marker. As you can see with the egg you have candled there isnt much going on , But you will see it when it does the egg first will have a distinct change in colour more like a glow. then the Heart and veins appear( Red) , You will Know it when you see it. For you at the moment leave all the eggs and watch and observe. Have Fun.- Brasea
I was reading the latest Brasea Bulletin and there is an article on the development of a national tender sale site. Breeders can put their birds on the site to sell , you can reserve a price , Prices from $400 , Obviously they want top quality birds and the Brasea gets 15% commission, so they want high prices to make it worth their while. Will be interested to see if it takes off , I think its been tried before with no success.- Some Friendly Breeding Advice Wanted :)
I have a little thing I go by , When the third egg is layed the first egg should be showing signs of fertility. I have been checking this for years and now I dont even wait , I throw the first egg if there are no fertile signs after the third egg is layed. - Chickens Medicine
