Central Coast Budgerigar Society Show
Gb , this is how it has to be , otherwise you could have a pet shop opaline say with perfect markings winning, against a bird of sudstance which wouldnt be right. The only way it can be changed is by changing the Matrix so that composite varieties are not allowed on the show bench , Breeders would still breed them but would not be unable to show. Goodluck though !! getting it through.

Why Arent My Breeding Pair Of Show Budgies Breeding?
okay , You tried to breed in the summer ( The hottest time of year and the time that birds Moult) , The birds were sick ! , Now you think their better?? . Now you still ask a Question why they wont breed. Instead of asking this Question and then log off , how about you spend sometime reading the forum for info on aviary management and breeding , for all we know you could have two cock birds!!.

Central Coast Budgerigar Society Show
Yes it is , Unfortunately composite varieties are destroying the true variety bird, But you get 60 pts for the bird first , so if you have a cracker then you will be way infront of the field.

Geelong Auction This Monday
ol moon face might put the birds to sleep. Maybe you get a bird to auction the birds , like Megan Fox or cameron Diaz Hi Matt, Agree - caught "ol Moonface" at the end of 20 to 1 (you know - when 9 lets things run over the advertised time!) - not good!! We shouldn't let this deteriorate into a sexist diatribe, but I would be all for Ms Fox. What about Tara Moss - she would almost make you bid! :hmm: Id be on a plane and heading there for the auction !!

Why Would These Chicks Be So Much Bigger?
Thanks JB , isnt it amazing that someone else can have the right words for what your thinking. If you take a normal nest of 4 young , they are all fed the same in that cabinet , But ! the resulting young can all be different in size . The only variable is in their genetic make up . Really Matt? What if one chick being a bit younger is not fed quite as much by it's parents as the others, or maybe the parents select out certain food first and deliver that to only one chick more often than the others? Maybe by chance one of the youngsters gets some food that is not good. There are too many variables in your test of genetics v's nutrition. You would somehow have to ensure that each chick is fed the same in regards to nutrients and quantity for it's life stage as well as ensuring that the nutritional specs were over what is required for maintainence. None the less if any animal is fed to it's optimum the limiting factor becomes it's genetic potential. So I definitely agree with the feeding them best quality and amount of food. BUT have we got any recent information on the actual nutrient requirements for growth of our current exhibition budgie? I know there is sketchy info about budgies in general but nothing done recently. This leads me to think that we don't really have a great handle on what our exhibition budgies ACTUALLY need or more like what actual quatities they need now a days. Come on nubbly , there isnt that many variables in nest that is going to dramatically enhance the growth of one bird over the other . My older chicks feed the younger ones , I see it all the time

Nest Boxes
I use internal boxes , I like the clean look of the cabinets , boxes arent pokeing out in the walk way , they have removable concaves that get replaced each year for hygene and when you have finished breeding the boxes stay in the cabinets you dont have to have somewhere to store them.

Pictures Of A Winter Landscape And More
All I can say is Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Nice pics.
-
Nest Box Location, Height Etc.
I have to disagree JB , The hens cannot make up their mind when they are all together at one height , they will fight and swap and change more. If you use different heights the pecking order is sorted out quicker as the top hens go for the high boxes and the others go for the lower ones , once they have their box they are usually happy and get on with business as they dont fight for territory as much. That is my opinion ONLY . Trial and error is the only way!!

Alot of NSW breeders selling up there now, it will be interesting to see what kind of money they get , as in NSW there isnt much being thrown at their birds lately.
