  1. Our Young Bird Show is fast approaching , If there is anyone near the Central Coast of NSW on the 6th of November , Call in for a Cake and Coffee or a BBQ lunch and check out the birds. If you are showing or interested in having a look we are at the Kariong Oval , Mitchell Drive Kariong. Check the website for the schedule and more information. http://centralcoastbudgerigarsociety.webs.com Cheers, Matt
  2. Its just some suffusion through the body feather, sometimes it moults out sometimes not. Ive seen an awesome cinnamon cock that had this , he won at a few shows even with the suffusion, his young had inhereted the feather suffusion also. Its possible that it could be a feature that could be bred into a bird, would make an interesting variety.
  3. Congratulations and well done, Its just the start Splatty.
  4. It is a normal , Just coming out of its baby moult into adult feather. The dark black on the head is flecking that will probably stay now.
  5. I Question the use of the word split for a dominant Variety.
  6. This Hen is my Fav Looking foward to the comming Young bird shows.
  7. I Think you are referring to the federal Highway Matt ?,it's a very boring stretch of road, that's for sure, not a place to exceed the speed limit, two unmarked on the way.The good thing about the birds i purchased is four of them are related to my own stock. Thanks Julie,i am happy with them,i will give them a good rest as Mario has bred with them. Yeah when I went to the Nationals , I was doing 115 and people were going by me like I was standing still, The best thing you have going if they are related is that Mario will be a perfect sorce for the future outcrosses.
  8. Yes they are related, Lot 266 Mother is Lot 333 Grandmother. Lot 266 Has Tony Croft on the Fathers side, Lot 333 Father was NSW 2326 2006 Cobalt ( Tony Croft ) I Had these two together and have kept a spangle Cock. Lot 331 Has the same Father as lot 266 and on the mothers side is 100% Tony Croft Lot 166 Father is Lot 72, Mother is Lot 167 Bloodline ( Hannington/ Veltymer) Lot 74 and 75 are Nest mates to this cock.
  9. How did you find the F7 , you would think the road was an unlimited speed. Nice Hens to start a line. Hope they breed well.
  10. I think some people need to take check about what this auction was. That is a National breeders 20 years of experience all at one sale . Doesnt happen often. So to say you need to match prices or think its to expensive , you are in the wrong place . The breeders that I saw buying were the Top breeders in the country and they were buying more than one bird. The Auctioneer was Stuart Williams, the Best in the business if you want Top dollar for your birds, He will sell the bird. I started breeding in 2000, I got birds given to me from an old friend from when I was a junior breeder. I bred the birds , got some more off club members as I went , I didnt spend more than $50. Marks birds were the birds I looked up to , I photo copied a page off the Hills web site of his winning birds to aspire to. So in 2009 after breeding and inbreeding, I bred a Yellowface Cock, This bird was the best bird I had ever bred . I showed the Bird at the Hills Annual in 2010 and took out Champion Novice, The bird then went on to Beat Marks Yellowface blue and was Best Yellowface at the Hills Annual 2010. This was my most memerable moment to date with the birds. So you dont need a bottomless wallet , you need time and patience. I say well done to Mark and his family, Im sure he will be back at some point in the future. Happy Breeding to all those that bought birds.

  15. okay I get dissed on every time I say when the third egg is laid the first is fertile. Day 1 , Egg 1 laid. Day 2 , No visual change.24 hours Day 3 , Egg 2 laid, At times Here I have found in egg 1 a change in yolk colour ( Richer or Intenser) 48 hours Day 4, Egg1 Definate visual change in Yolk colour in Egg 1 , Egg 2 no visual change.72 hours Day 5 Egg 3 laid, Egg 1 shows Definate Veins and Fertility, Egg 2 Look for yolk colour change . 96 hours. And so on. Now the disclaimer!!., So you can leave out the negative posts. Your Hen must be a Hen that Sits upon laying. First Lesson for all Novice breeders, For me if a hen isnt sitting she is a Young hen and forget all the above, she has to be trial bred. Or your Hen isnt in full condition and may cause problems so prepare yourself. I have just finished my 11th breeding year in Exibition Budgerigars.
  16. Yes Lion , I have had this many times. Not 100% what causes it , But certain hens seem to produce them more regulary. Sometimes none in a nest then others all. I believe it is gasses building up in the egg that cannot escape from the egg shell. I have had many infertile and fertile, Never had on go through to hatch, egg will go addled at any stage during incubation. Fingers crossed for yours.
  17. LOL - unfortunately some of those serious buyers will buy more than 1 pair. One pair = $2000. You going there Matt? Yeah should be. Average around $200
  18. 30 Serious Buyers means we all get 2 pair each
  19. I laugh when I get to the end of this Thread. Whats doing with the Picture of himself?
  20. Goodluck Dave , The only change I would make is Pairs 7 and 8, Only because you are going to double up on Cinnimon with Pair 8 , The Two Hens are similar . Unlessof course you want cinnamons. Happy Breeding
  21. But Matt she's a beginner!!!! French Moult is depressing and taxing even for the most seasoned breeder. Once it spreads (and it always does) you get nest after nest of flightless, bald chickies that need to be sent to God .... it's a heartbreak and a half. Look Maddy, in all fairness Matt makes a valuable case about the weather and what you can do to try and mitigate the effects of French Moult. Plus it is true that invariably it is imported through a carrier and even after shutting the breeding down for 6 months that same bird (in my case it was a hen) can spark another outbreak. The second year it hit me I did contain it in the way Matt has described. But I culled all birds associated with the outbreak and once again did an extensive clean out out/disinfectant and waited another 6 months before breeding again. If you possess remarkable fortitude then give it a go at containing French Moult. But I were in your shoes I wouldn't. Renee , I know she is a beginner, Thats why im Going to drop around to her place and check the birds out for her. That is if she deletes some messages from her in box so I can send one.!!!!!!!!
  22. I hear you. I have 2 wire cages I keep for temporary holdings. The poo drips down on the wires and sticks like cement. As you said, not only do you have all the seed flying everywhere but cleaning these cages is a pain. Also you make the valid point about little chickies hobbling around on the wire base. By putting the paper in you mitigate this but then you have to change that newspaper more often. Also I can't remember whether you mentioned it or Matt but I DO think that Air Bourne diseases such as French Moult is more of a danger with the wire cages. I have read somewhere that one breeder likes the Wire cabinets 'cause the budgies can see eachother and that stimulates their breeding behaviour .... Well all my birds face eachother so that behaviour can be seen by them ... Renee, My birds have the Radio on , Tuned to the Local Rock station for their Stimulation !!
  23. Hypothetical Question , How many Breeders will be at this auction? And How many will be Serious Purchasers?
  24. Maddy , I personally wouldnt stop breeding . Now is the best time to breed here in our climate. This may just be an isolated case. Problem is if it is FM , you may buy another bird that is a carrier and next breeding season have it all again. So , Buy some F10 Spray everything , get the dust level down , split the pair that has Suspect FM up. Worm, Treat for Lice and Mites to increase natural immunity of the body, Keep breeding , Look out for your strongest birds you will know them when you see them , they will breed with no problems. These will be you best birds to continue with. Goodluck. Matt.
  25. That sounds interesting Matt, lol Can you post some Photos of the V type shoot too please. Gee next you will want me too build one , Flat pack it and ship it !
