My Husband Built Me A New Aviary!
wow kazzy. saw these pictures a while ago, but i didnt realise you built it! i thought it was photos from someones holiday to sovereign hill or something??? wow it really captures the goldrush period, with the corrrugate iron and rustic weathered wood by the way this part of australis history is one of my favourites. i am extremely jealous, would dream to have a bird house like this, your very lucky you should be commended on your efforts and vision of design from a bygone era lovely, lovely lovely. you have inspired me and maybe just maybe one day i too will have a bird house like yours. congratulations, enjoy it.

Ivermectin
hi all. well from what im hearing it is one drop on the back of the neck with this ivermectin product. well... today i went to the petshop, and in my eyes a really good quality pet shop that can be trusted, and is extremely caring of all their animals. and i went up to one of the staff and asked her if they stocked any product to cure scaly face. and she seem to know what she was talking about and lead me straight to a product by "Aristo pet" called "Scaly face and leg treatment- for caged birds". so the product is specifically used for scaly face, ...but it contradicts what you are all saying. the bottle directly states... "DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Apply to affected area once a day for 3 to 4 days. Apply with cotton bud or small brush. Prevent bird from ingesting material by holding head firmly during application. Repeat this treatment 1 to 2 weeks later to avoid re-infestation". so what do you all have to say to that? and from what i know "aristopet" is a fairly respectable and trusted brand. It is a 25ml bottle, and its active constitutents include:Benzyl Benzoate and liquid parafin. please please tell me whether i am doing the right thing treating my bird with this product?? thanks grant.

Greywing & Rec Pied Babies
thanks nubbly yes nubbly is right they must BOTH be split for blue for you to acheive a blue so therefore dad is split for cinnamon and blue mum is split for blue! and one of them is either yf or split for yf? i think any more pictures cant wait =] alpaca boy.

Greywing & Rec Pied Babies
hi jlee! you are very lucky, your babies are beautiful =] very jealous =] now i am no expert but i would say that the DAD has to be split for cinnamon. As it is a sex linked mutation, if it is not apparent in hen's phenotype (outward appearance), than she does not carry cinnamon this is because females have a xy genetic makeup and the cinnamon gene lies on the x chromosome. so therefore if she did have cinnamon it would show outwardly. where as males have a xx genetic makeup, therefore it can lie on one of the x's but not both, therefor not outwardly showing the cinnamon, but instead carrying the gene. therefore this would make the chick a cinnamon GIRL, as if the dad carries one x chromosome with cinnamon, than he could only pass on one of the x cinnamon chromosomes and the mother would pass on no x cinnamon chromosomes. resulting in either a male (xx) , and split for cinnamon OR an xy (female) where the x cinnamon chromosome results in the female showing cinnamon. sorry if you dont get that. i hope i make sense if not check it out here... http://www.budgieplace.com/gen_cinnamon.html it might make more sense! =] so in other words that chick with cinnamon is a GIRL AND the DAD is split for cinnamon. and the other male chicks may be split for cinnamon. if im wrong can someone please correct me, oh and please please!!! post more pictures of the chicks!!! they are lovely and i would love to see more of when they get there full feathers! alpaca boy,

Ratzy's Breeding Journal
Congratulations Ratzy! this post has been extremely informative as i want to breed too. and all those questions i would have asked have been answered right here! fantastic, now i am somewhat educated on breeding practices and from watching your journey i am more confident that i can do the same and breed successfully watch out in the somewhat near future as i too plan to create my own breeding journal ps: i love love love your babies! you are so lucky, and all of them are different from one another and there parents such a variety in colour and tone! i have to say though my favourite is chupa chubs and i do have a soft spot for dude pps: i personally think you should keep them all if you are allowed it is such a great little budgie family, and your cage is definately big enough they are a tributr to your hard work thats if your parents let you of course Alpaca Boy.

Powder Blue
thankyou all for your helpful information, so i take it that the general rule is when a budgie has cinnamon wings its chest plumage will be diluted?? by the way it was a lovely bird, such a beautiful colour. i am going to try and steal it or maybe i will just look for one =] thankyou again

Powder Blue
hello everyone, i was at my friends house the other day, and i was observing her budgies =] they were quite interesting, but one really took my eye it was a light blue colour, but not the normal sky blue, it was a powder blue, really soft blue like a pastel aby blue, not the usual vibrant skye blue is this possible? if so what is it called?? i really like it another thing to note is that it had cinnamon wings, would this affect the colouring of its plumage?? on the chest? thanks in advance, Grant :hooray:
