Well, since Dave likes dom pieds, I decided he should have one named after him! So we find immortality in budgies!
  4. Give it a few more days Ratzy...I've had one go days longer than expected and then hatch! Either way, they've done beautifully for first time parents...4 is great!

Does anyone know of a good website or software program that allows you to create designs for an aviary? 3D would be greaat but 2D would work also.

That's so sweet of you KAZ

Have them make colourful budgie toys as a party activity/craft. Get squeezable fabric paints and white t-shirts and let them paint a budgie on their shirt.
  11. Hey Ratzy...are you 5 for 5 yet??? It's so wonderful that Marigold and Skye are doing so well as first time parents...I'm very happy for you :bliss: Mine also go absolutely crazy for carrot tops...they eat them, play in them and generally go completely loopy when they get them. Luckily, a local farmers market gives them to me free when I stop in. The cage with the shw budgies just looks at them disdainfully as if to say "What? You expect us to eat that???" ...they'll come around, I hope. They certainly aren't as playful as the pet types. Let us know when that last little one makes an appearance! :budgiedance:

I just finished reading through this very long thread and WOW! That is quite an amazing set-up!! I'm hoping to build my aviary this spring with my 1 year old son's help although he's now involved with his first "serious" girlfriend so I might be building it alone! Daz...how wide are each of your three flights? And, speaking as a "pet type budgie only in cages in the house" sort of budgie enthusiast I noticed that the larger aviaries like yours often don't have toys or any other entertainment for the birds...do they just keep each other entertained? Also, an absence of real tree branches and only same sized dowling perches. I have always read about the importance of varied perches for the well being of little bird feet....is this a fallacy? I absolutely LOVE your set up...I could only dream of something so awesome! Thanks for sharing your journey through building it.
  13. WOW...what an amazing difference. I posted a while back with the exact same situation with a young cock bird...I'll now be giving the iodine a go
  14. That actually truely puts my mind at ease ...I'm relieved to know others do it too! She seems to be quite an adorable lazy little lump
  15. Excellent!
  16. I actually just got her this week Ratzy but I sure wish I could sleep as relaxed as that!  ...or a teeny tiny little trampoline and bounce her right back up onto the perch! What a rude awakening that would be !!!!! Hahahaha
  17. It is cute! LOL it's the legs all akimbo thaat crack me up the most! I also like the other bird on the right hand side of the pictures looking on and getting closer as if to say "What the *** are you doing?"

I am so sorry for your loss Splat. We love our pets as family and we feel their loss just as acutely. You are in my prayers.
  19. One of my newest budgies goes to sleep sort of draped over the perch...legs spread wide...it's quite funny looking. When awake this bird's stance is normal and she sits just fine but asleep it's like looking at a wet noodle draped over a perch. Has anyone else got birds who have done this? I wonder if I should make her more of a platform to sleep on. Opinions on this? I can watch her fall asleep and she gets droopier and droopier...it's cute but is it normal/okay? Here are a series of pictures taken as she was falling asleep Going.. Going... Going.... Going..... Gone!
  20. This is so wonderful Ratzy...time to celebrate!
  21. defieldsfamily replied to NOWBUDGIE's post in a topic in Food And Nutrition
I have often wondered the same thing so I'll be looking forward to the answers. I can't see why not but perhaps not too much in terms of nutritional value...but then they are sprouted seeds... :sadsorry:
  22. Oops! Sorry KAZ..I completely forgot about the picture size this time...but you have to admit I've been much better at remembering lately
  23. Is it normal for the markings on the wings of a light green spangle to be green instead of black? http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy33/de...en/DSCN1798.jpg http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy33/de...en/DSCN1800.jpg I guess you can see a tiny tinge of black further up the wing. What do the experts think? And opaline? Anything else I should know?

I picked up 7 new budgies today...I'm calling them The Group Of Seven ( in reference to a group of famous Canadian landscape artists in the 1920's) until I can come up with better names...haha I was tld they all have been bred from show birds but since I've never seen a show bird (until possibly now) I wouldn't know the difference. If this worked, it shuld be a slide show of some pictures I just took. Any comments/thoughts are greatly appreciated with regard to colours, mutations, etc. The sexes are obvious as they are all year old birds.
  25. Thank you both so much
