Budgies And Peppermint Tree Branches
Thanks...I just bought one of these and I'll keep everyone posted on how well they do here in Canada! Hope it gets through customs okay. Also, does anyone know the full name (Genus and species) of the eucalyptus that the budgies love so much? We import many vrieties of eucalyptus as we have a microclimate that isn't so disimilar to the climate of some parts of Australia and as a result they do quite well here.

Canada Won The Gold Medal Hockey Game!
Hehehehehe...thanks for the giggle...yes...we do have inhabited islands! I live on Vancouver Island which is off the pacific coast. The population of this island is a little over 3/4 of a million people! There are many islands between this island and the mainland which are also populated called The Gulf Islands. I think you need to come visit this part of the world...we might surprise you! PS..one of the refs in todays hockey game is a friend of mine

Tsunami Warning
You are right JimmyBanks...I guess unless you've seen what a tsunami can do locally then people just don't get it. A town on the island I live on was devastated by a tsunami from an alaskan earthquake in 1964. Lives were lost and much of the town was destroyed...not something the locals take lightly.

Tsunami Warning
It's better to be safe than sorry. And I don't think it's quite accurate to say "nothing happened"...just ask the people of Chile...I doubt they'd think of the loss of over 400 people as "nothing"

American Budgie With English Budgie
I think it must just be the area you live in Joey as in my area there are many many breeders and bird clubs. If you find a bird club and join, I'm sure you'll meet like minded folks.

Lighting In Aviary And Other Aviary Design Questions...
I live in the mildest part of Canada but we do get some snow most years and it does hover around freezing for a good few weeks. I couldn't feel good about leaving them outside all year.

What are your winters like in Australia?

Lighting In Aviary And Other Aviary Design Questions...
I'm going to maximize daylight with several windows in my aviary but I'm wondering what the best type of electric light is for them. I've just replaced the light in my current birdroom with a full spectrum bulb and I can't believe what a difference it makes when viewing their colours and ceres etc. Should I use these in the aviary too or is fluorescent best? Also, how do most of you het the aviary in the winter? The aviary will be on a stone patio in my arden and will have a large birdroom, indoor flights for the colder months and large outdoor flights for the warmer months. And lastly, how do you get the birds in from the outdoor flights back into the indoor flights at night once the nights get cooler?

Please let me know if this isn't sized properly...I don't have much luck with photobucket.

Tsunami Warning
No...it won't get to that point here...people were advised to stay away from beaches and marinas here but it's probably only an advisory now since the waves were smaller than expected in Hawaii...only about a meter there from what I'm reading. Our waters here will no doubt rise but no huge waves..I think they were saying it would be about 0.5 meters here.

Tsunami Warning
We're under a Tsunami warning here as I'm sure much of coastal Australia is too. Prayers for the people of Chile.

Nibbles Is Quite Sick
That's wonderful news! I'm so glad Nibbles has improved so much.
-
Nibbles Is Quite Sick
I wouldn't omit any of the injections. I'm thinking it might be some sort of chelation therapy to counter the heavy metal poisoning so probably very essential. to Nibbles

Nibbles Is Quite Sick
Hannah, you and your Mum are truely good people to stick by poor Nibbles right now. I'm sorry he's doing so poorly. The bacteria the vet told you about is Staphylococcus and it's good that he's eating the cooked oats with the antibiotic in them. Do you have any idea how he got the metal pieces in his crop? Keep us posted as to how he is doing. Heavy metal poisoning in a human is a long road to recovery but I'm not sure about birds. Are the injections gold injections?
