  1. No...the hole in the nest box is almost at the top of the box...I'm really quite amazed that she can climb up there at all unless she's stepping up on top of the other chicks like her own personal stepladder. The icecream tub is a great idea...they're all asleep now tucked away so she'll be safe until morning. She's an adventurous little thing, that's for sure Thanks for the good advice!
  2. She's only 22 days old and keeps finding a way to get out of the nest box....then I find her chirping and running around the bottom of the cage. I'm worried she's going to hurt herself. Seems a bit too soon to be leaving the nest to me. Should I be concerned?
  3. Hmmmmm...what type/model cell phone?..maybe I can get one here....the bright light would come in handy.
  4. ack ack ack ack ack !!!! That's funny....can't say I've ever heard mine do that but now I'll be listening for it
  5. Thanks for such good advice everyone...and great instructions in the FAQ's Elly. But can you tell me what dolphin noises are?
  6. I looked in the FAQ's but couldn't find what you wrote Elly...could you give me directions? Thanks so much
  7. I would like to put Oliver (an adult male - no idea how old as he came to us as a found bird) in the same cage as Maxi(a young female about 3 months). Their two cages have been side by side for a couple of weeks now and they have pretty muh ignored eacch other. How do I acomplish them becoming cage mates? Eventually, they will all be in one large indoor aviary but I'm still building it and it won't be finished anytime soon. Neither bird is particularly well hand trained at the moment. Any pointers from the pros?
  8. That was lovely to see...thank you for posting it. What sort of light source were you using?
  9. Wonderful! How do you tell the difference between dominant and recessive pied? Is his hest sort of a greeny blue due to him being a yellow face? It's a different blue from that at his other end. Thanks so much for your help...it is greatly appreciated
  10. This little fellow will be added to our "flock" in the next day or so...what colour/type is he?
  11. I have only been breeding budgies a short while so I don't know if this is common behaviour amongst chicks but when I come home from work each day, the first thing I do is check on our three new chicks (Snap, Crackle and Pop) who are 15,17 and 19 days. When I opened the door to the nest I saw one of the older siblings feeding the youngest one....it was soooooooooooo adorable. Do chicks often participate in the care of the younger ones like this?
  12. Any idea what colour the older two are going to be?..they don't seem to have even a hint of blue.
  13. Awesome...that's going to be a gorgeous bird then Can you really tell the sex at only a few days old? That's amazing!
  14. It's been a few more days now and the two older ones might be mauves (I'm hoping!) but the younest one looks like a pied...I don't understand budgie genetics but is this possible from this pairing? I'm not colony breeding so I know exactly who the parents are so I guess I'm wondering if I'm correct in thinking he/she might be a pied....I'll try to get some more photos this weekend.
  15. I'm afraid I can't even begin to offer an answer to your question but I just wanted to comment on what an absolutely gorgeous bird this is! Such awesome markings and colours....and the greatest eyes I've seen on a bird. Seems like a little ham for the camera too, eh?
  16. okay...any guesses as to what colours these three little ones are going to end up as? Parents are normal cobalt cock and opaline cobalt hen...that's all I know http://i35.tinypic.com/2n6b21h.jpg
  17. The more I see her do it, the more I think it is so he will feed her...let's hope!
  18. The oldest of the three chicks is only 13 days old, then 11 and 9 days old. Ack! I don't want her to breed any more!
  19. Yes, the babies are all terrific
  20. Juliet is currently looking after her three babies along with her partner Romeo. All of a sudden I've noticed this morning she is bobbing her head side to side over and over again and I haven't seen her do that before. Any cause for concern or is she just in a happy dancy mood?
  21. defieldsfamily posted a post in a topic in Budgie Pictures
Can anyone post a picture of a mauve budgie...I don't know what they look like and have a chance that one of our new babies could turn out to be mauve. Thanks
  22. I did think Oliver was Grey Green but he has darb blue on his tail and the bluey-purpley cheek patches so decided that made him an olive green. Let me know if that isn't correct though. Here's a couple of pictures of him...a bit blurry, sorry. http://i33.tinypic.com/2n8tpaw.jpg http://i34.tinypic.com/15cymg5.jpg And here is a picture of the skyblue hen (in the foreground with her parents beside her) http://i35.tinypic.com/2m7f8g6.jpg The hen (Maxi) is only 10 weeks old right now so nowhere near breeding yet, but I'm thinking down the road a while
  23. what would the resulting babies look like?
  24. Then so far I think two of the three are opaline...the third one is still pretty bald..LOL. The first two are very snowy white and there is a bit of greyish-blue on their wings now. I am so looking forward to seeing them when they have all their feathers. Their "older sister" (from the last clutch) is a normal skyblue.
  25. Thanks! I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of their feathers
