  1. Great! For some reason I can't see half the posts on this topic?
  2. Well anyway Kaz, I took your advice on the ice cream container. Marigold will be separated as soon as the bottom bit has dried out. In the mean time I'm keeping a VERY close eye on them. The two youngest are staying in the container. The opaline, aka Lexi, comes out but can't seem to figure out how to get to the perch.
  3. Great...... I'm already allergic to everything.....and now there is a chance I will develop another. I'm allergic to dust mites, dry grass, a sort of pollen, peanuts, cats, dogs, rabbits and horses, which is basically animal fur in general. The peanut one is very serious too.
  4. The youngest is about three and a half weeks. I am going to let Marigold rest. There is just Mum and Dad to cnvince. Wish me luck.
  5. The other chicks are about 4 weeks at estimate. Marigold is fine with the other chicks so do I just put SKye in the kindy cage? And the chick?
  6. okay, I've run into a minor (I hope) problem with my breeding. The eldest has come out and can actually fly. The problem? Well Marigold doesn't want anything to do with it and it can't feed itself. Everytime Skye tries to feed it Marigold comes over and fights with Skye. So.... should I put it in the kindy cage? With Skye? After Skye had his attack Marigold has not let him feed anyone but herself. Including the chicks.
  7. Great! okay now I'll whine.....PICS PLEASE!
  8. Agreed. Kaz, is he a grey wing yellow face?
  9. Shouldn't they be getting fed? They are gorgeous! It does look plum, but then I've only seen a few pinkies myself.
  10. We just had our first escapee. Little opaline was sitting there looking so innocent I almost believed her. I have an old blanket strung up underneith the box. She was perching on the edge of it. Since I know for a fact she can't fly at all yet, I put her in for the night. I was a bit surprized that she was first one out seeing as she is the third chicky. I will try and get some pics but the camera is at school. I have some on my laptop but it is not coppoperating at the moment.
  11. One of them looks very young I think. We really aren't trying to be mean or boss you around we are just trying to help out there mate. I agree that the nest boxes are tooo close. Nice birds there.
  12. Eldest sits on the ledge of the nest box. I have named three...... Thimble, Buttons and Angelica, Angie for short. Angie is the opaline. I took them out for cuddles yesterday with Marigold. Marigold didn't know what to do. More pics coming soon of individuals, as soon as the camera turns up, lol. I noticed Skye has a squarish head shape, does that means he has english blood?
  13. How old is little Monster?
  14. Not sure if this is the right place to put my picture.
  15. Did you say you were younger than some age thingy? Are the birds actually in breeding condition?
  16. I've never actually seen one before Kaz..... but I suppose you have more experiance :laughter: :laughter:
  17. He shouldnt be out while you are asleep :laughter: Make sure there is somewhere in the room for him to be................you can make a play area by putting a large twiggy branch in a pot of cement so you have a stick like xmas tree sort of thing where he can sit and play with toys you can hang on the branches. Make sure you dont use scented candles or aerosols in the room...no spraying deodorant, hairsprays etc Remember to vacuum A LOT !! as dust levels will be high. One flap of the wings and seed husks and dust goes everywhere :laughter: If you are staying up late with the light on his cage will need to be covered so he can sleep. If you have other pets, make sure door is always shut so he doesnt become a cat or dogs dinner ( it has been reported on this forum that pet budgies have become another pets dinner ) Quiet is a sign of danger to them so if you arent there play the radio or TV and dont have him out of the cage unless supervised. Try to discourage floor areas as many budgies get trodden on and sat on if under bedcovers. True..... dad had a budgie as a kid and his cat slipped through the bars and ate it. Unfortunately for the cat it couldn't get back out after he'd had his little meal.
  18. It is cinnamon. Experts....is it mauve? It is an uncommon mutation but not rare I don't think.
  19. I have managed to name two so far. I was thinking the same thing about mauve...... but I read something about mauve chicks looking grey and close up I think it looks more violet than mauve. I've taken some photos outside and I brought them inside with Marigold. She was so good and sat with them while I was holding them. Then came the unmistakeable sound of Skye chucking up a tantrum. :laughter: :laughter: :laughter:
  20. I'd take him to the vet.
  21. And the lady in the pet store didn't know what an opaline was..... .or a grey........ or lutino. Considering she breeds them that is weird.
  22. The ignorant lady in the pet shop thinks boys have square heads while girls have round...... didn't even know about ceres. Must have been embarrasing for her to see a twelve year old girl corecting a pet store owner.
