  1. Thank you. Hope I have just as much luck with my second! Marigold has been checking out the nest box and Skye is courting again. More pics tomorrow then... good night.
  2. I don't know Kaz. Marigold always had the fertile eggs underneath her properly, while one was always under her wing or tail. And it was definately infertile, not chilled.
  3. Thank you! Pity you don't live near me.... or you could probably have her as she needs a good forever home. Uploading some more pics for you. What are you looking at? Why, it's queen Marigold herself! Aren't I beautiful?
  4. Looks like it! I am by no means an expert but I think you have it right. Bet your looking forward to chickies! By the way.... that is very neat hen you have there
  5. Thank you. Finished showering. I will get a picture of the divider for you. Now I'll just finish uploading my pics. The reason I was allowed to seperate them was because mum actually witnessed Marigold pushing Thimble off the perch. Here are pics. Marigold is being nice. Dude is being innocent. What? Who me? I didn't poo on the curtains. Feel free to comment.
  6. Already done, Kaz! Now if you'll wait a minute I'll upload some more pics. I seperated them that way when Marigold was being nasty towards the chicks. I got a new camera for my birthday and have just figured it out so lots more pics from now on. Lexi and Dude A trio And I managed to catch Skye trying to impress Marigold. More pics after this lot, but now I need to shower.
  7. Well I put the nest box in and Marigold was in within seconds! Literally. No mating yet, so if any breeders think this is a bad idea, I can probably intervene. Skye has fully recovered and I did think he was moulting but it was just a messy feather. More pics now. Smile everyone! Taken on a family outing indoors. My cage. The little monster who bites for fun. More pics later after somebody posts.
  8. My cockatiel got out and I'm convinced someone found him and just kept him. Someone I know got a budgie off their uncle which was found in his canary aivary. If someone found him they'd probably think you'd mistreated him. I also know someone who lost a budgie and he showed up on the door step months later, so do not lose hope!
  9. Just a quick question... are greens supposed to have blue patches? Because Marigold has violet and so does one of her green chicks. But the other green has blue. Is this because of the shade of blue, or what the bird is split to? Could Marigold be split to mauve and the chick? Is that why I got a mauve? Sorry for the questions but it just occurred to me when I was cleaning up around the cage. Only one of my birds have blue cheek patches. Thanks in advance .
  10. Wow that's a LOT of chicks!
  11. They are happy you are excited, but they have had some bad experiences with collony breeding and don't want you to go through the same thing. Good luck! It is your choice and I won't judge you by that choice. I really hope everything goes well for you and your birds.
  12. Have you asked around to see if anyone has caught him or at least seen him?
  13. Great! Wouldn't it be funny if every egg hatched? You'd be over-run.
  14. My friends parents were the one who had the idea of breeding and wanted to get the male budgie. No, I don't have a book, but I know I researched for more than a year befor eMarigold and Skye had their clutch on the internet, found a really useful site. Trouble is that the friends live a really long way away and we only see them every few months. Maybe I should ask mum if they can come here and see my setup.
  15. okay I went to a friends house...... and was admiring their two hens. They came over and said that for some reason her budgies wouldn't breed. I told them why. 1. They had two hens. 2. One was 3-4 months. 3. They had a finch nest. 4. It was cluttered with toys. 5. They had building going on around the house. I asked them how long they had had the birds, and they told me two weeks ! When I told them they had two females, they rushed off to the petshop to get a male. I picked out a male for them, they asked me to. Thank god they have a quarrantine cage. They said if they didn't have chicks in two weeks they'd blame me so I pointed out that they would have to have a few months settling in and would have to be in breeding condition. They obviously didn't know anything about breeding as they'd only kept budgies for a few months. I am worried . I will try to convince them to join the forum but may need some help.

    Welcome! I love animals too.
  18. It doesn't work for me.
  19. Yeah, I just thought that he did have an off camera chat. That was what made me put it up.... the overcrowding and the fact he did not seem to address that problem.
  20. Anyway, some more pics are on the way! All babies are eating and flying very well. I'm putting up a notice at the milk bar advirtising them. This is Thimble, Marigold's firstborn. She is a monster! When I stick my hand in the cage she flies over to bite my fingers. Not hard.... yet. I'm letting Marigold and Skye start another clutch, is that wise? They are in full health, are in breeding condition and the weather is just right. The chicks are fully independent.
  21. He advises them to put a nest box in when there's 6 birds in the cage already! Wouldn't that end up with injured babies?
  22. Skye is starting his moult. He is behaving a bit differently... as in actually flying to my head.
  23. Any updates? I know how you feel.
  24. I found a link on budgies and I watched it. The cage is tiny and has 6 budgies in it! AND Doctor Harry gave them a nest box so their hen could lay eggs ! 2 babies have splayed legs! http://au.video.yahoo.com/watch/5039046/13393906 I'm not sure the link will work but here it is.
