Show Cage Training
I've only really just started in the hobby too so I'm still fine tunning my show cage training... At the moment I handle them as young babies so they are use to having people near them and handling them, so they are not as jumpy when people walk pass... I often sit outside near the aviaries or even in them for more people contact... Plus I than get to watch them and see how everyone is doing... Looking for those unwell ones... As they get older they go into a show cage, a training one not my good ones, have a spary and are allow to dry... While they are in there they often preen themselves after the shower... I place the cages where I often walk pass, more people contact... I also use some stick i've made up and use them to incourage them to sit on them perch and so they get use to having that near them aswell and don't flip out... I plan on using the pin pon balls too when birds are just not getting the picture...

No budgie in it though... hmmm Another one with wing shakes... Just chillin' out... Doing budgie lift... I think he was up to two budgie lifts... Left right left right, jump... start again... Show Budgies Behaving Badly
All cages are met to have a white piece of paper on the floor... WA has a new rules for seed now, the white D cup you see is now what seed is to go into... I think it becomes offical in 2011... Plus we have new thicker perchs too... 16mm if i remember...Those that dont have D cups can still put seed on floor for now... I'm sure someone will correct me if wrong... I still learning... Hope that helps Splat... If someone can post something than I can add more photos... Thanks...

Show Budgies Behaving Badly
The dark side of showing budgies... When things go wrong... Beware not for the faint hearted... ... .... ..... Sad about second place so having a moment to herself... Eating his way out... Bath time during judging... Hmmm... Another budgie disappionted... Running up and down... Up and down... Plotting something evil... Pole friendly... too friendly... So upset about 3rd place has taking it upon herslef to hind... Here is that hungry Albino again... A bit more budgie hinding... More budgie hinding... A new place to hind, under the seed container... Not happy about 3rd place so removed his own card... The latest perching spot... Having a cat... Opps, i mean budgie nap... A budgie crammed into a show cage... Seed kicking... Just sleeping in the corner... Planning a get-away... More photo's to come...

Opalines
Thanks for that Kaz... More reading to do now... :grouphug:

Opalines
Thanks for that guys... I've been told the same thing Nubbly, opalines improve spots, so maybe they do carry more melanin than other varieties... I checked my ANBC standard file before and in there it states that the Opaline should have a clear V but I don't think I have see many, if any with the clear V on their back on the show bench... That is such good news GB, I have bred 7 birds from my everyday pairs and they have a pretty clear V on their back too... Which made me wonder why you see so many with the dirty back... I have noticed that they too are not as big as the parents, just like you said you are geting with yours... Maybe that is part of a clear V... We are getting a clear V and lossing some size for it... Hmmm...

Opalines
Just wondering does anyone here breed Opalines...? And maybe know of a reason why some many Oplaines bred have dirty backs...? I mean by the marked V on their back which is meant to bo clear... :mallet: I have so many Opalines with dirty backs myself and was just wondering if anyone out there was actually breeding them to save the Opalines really... :laughter: Can these birds still be called Opalines... I just couldn't stop thinking of the Opalines today while looking at my birds... Just had a moment of saddness.... Any thoughts guys...? I seek your wisedom... :raincloud:
