Loss Of Flight Feathers
I thought he looked older than 8/9/ weeks as well, but I'm no expert. You don't suppose he had his wing clipped on one side? Ray said he thought he had more feather one side." just a thought ' maybe he was going to be a pet.

My Babies(Budgie Pics)
Hi Oochie, is the bird in first picture (romeo) a budgie? He looks pink in photo, the third picture it looks like he's on the perch with two budgies and is about the same size. What mutation would he be if he's a budgie? Or am I seeing things l.o.l. (which is a possibility) l.o.l.

Advice Requested.
Thanks Splat & G.b I really wanted this fellow, more for new blood in my aviary, he's a big long bird, so when I gear up again I think I'll give him a go. Thanks again for the advice.

Advice Requested.
Hi all, I have mentioned earlier I had a nice grey pied cock. I paired him last season but he broke/ate eggs. I had only bought him a short while before pairing him up, so with the sale (at bird show) then new aviary, hen etc. and pairing him up quickly. Thought maybe he could be stressed about the whole thing. My query is does anyone think it is worth trying him again? OR IS IT: ONCE AN EGG DESTROYER ALWAYS AN EGG DESTROYER? Or can they be okay next round or season and worth a try? This is picture of him.

I'm Busy.... Four Budgies In The Hospital Cage
Hi Ratsy, It's bad enough to have one sick without 4. At least it doesn't look like a contagious thing. Sounds like your on to it anyway. Good idea about the cement floor. At least when it gets wet it will dry better than a soil base. Good luck with hosp. patients.

Any Clues
Thanks G.B, This puzzle is getting stranger by the day. I have checked aviary this morning, I put blue hen back in aviary as she has improved to the point she is now chewing at wood etc looking like she's in breeding conditon !! no hump etc and perching as normal. Green bird 's co-ordination looks better, he doesn't miss perch now. They don't have paralysis more hypo- active, just the stance and loss of co-ordination. I'm thinking now, toxic but what !! I gave blue hen avical a few days ago: don't think it would have worked that quickly if it was calcium deficiency. I only removed iodine from water 2 days ago. If it was Iodine would birds be recovering if it was iodine buildup? next question why just 2 birds, (fingers crossed) when all birds have same seed etc? If it was crook seed e.g. wouldn't all birds be, not sick as such, but out of whack?? I'm going to keep notes on this one for future reference, to try to pinpoint the cause if it happens again.

Any Clues
Hi, I've been using the iodine in their water since about april 2010, (when I had a cock bird whose cere kept changing to brown) so on advice. about every second water change. I use sipper type bottles and add 7 drops per litre water. I don't have additional iodine blocks, just cuttle fish and shell grit is available to birds at all times. I have stopped the iodine for now to see if there are any changes, one way or the other in birds.

Fordmob 001, 002 And 003/12
Look like lovely chicks, would lut. colour up more after it's first moult?
-
Any Clues
Thank's fordmob, I've been thinking along the lines of that but can't for the life of me think what it may be. They have had same seed for weeks but this last bag I wasn't happy with, lot of debis, dust etc in it. I have just changed to a new brand. Neither bird has had new stuff until to-day. I wash any greens etc from garden and make sure hubby hasn't sprayed anything around aviary or garden. I have recently rewired flight, but blue hen was "sick" before that happened green fellow was locked away in aviary while this occured as well. New wire washed down with vinegar and hosed before birds were let in it. As I said I have the soluble iodine in water of all aviary birds. Symptoms don't match toxicity from iodine. Apart from this they just get their normal greens, corn on cob etc. I Would it hurt to add calcivet to aviary water for a while for all birds? They have access to open sun for vit.d (when sun shines that is)

Any Clues
Can anyone shed any light on these symptoms? First indication is the lying on perch,( blue hen a couple of weeks thought maybe she had injured leg). This cock couple days noticed him lying on perch, he's bright , shredding paper in cage, climbing etc but seems to be "hypo" he's up down flitting along perch at a fast pace. He seems to be lacking in balance co-ordination, he misses the perch and falls or drags himself up by the beak, like he's drunk? I don't know what may be the cause. Food, environment ? but it's the same for all 50 birds. Following are pics of 2nd bird. showing his stance on perch Note the hump on his rump, no swelling, tumours just his stance. I might add he lost his tail feathers when fledging and got stuck, they have never re-grown. bright eyed and alert front view note "hump" as a p.s blue hen had same "hump" look she is now just about back to normal. got me beat !!!

Show Birds and Fertility
the job we staff have is to put topics in appropriate places....this seemed less of a whinge topic and more of a general breeding topic related to show birds........hence the move. Besides in its own topic it will get more attention. Thanks for that info Kaz., being a non show breeder I didn't feel my comments were informed enough for show bird forums, just general observations.

Show Birds and Fertility
Don't know how my post ended up here I posted it on, Miss. " winge for the day" as a comment on previous post's there about the trouble breeders have had etc. Meaning like dogs e.g where they have been "modified" for this or that trait, they have created other problems not found in the original breeds.
