Thanks Splat, I think I might miss out on the d.f. because yesterday I looked them over and it's got the palest mauve colouring coming in down its chest.. Spangles are looking great nice big babies. Some nice pied's feathering up in another nest. Thanks, budgie mate I have bred some nice spangles. I seem to have a violet/mauve theme going this time. Some pied's have spangle markings and white flights so waiting to see them feathered up. Thanks G.B. really pleased with bubs, they bred through the winter with no problems which was great., BUT I'm over my limit so I have to sell some off, trouble is which ones to pick.

Just caught up Splat, so glad you have finally got things back on track. You must have been on the right track when you thought it was seed causing problems. It's food for thought though, even though I've only got pet types I usually buy seed 2 bags in advance from produce store. How do we know how long it's been stored at the silo's and then there, before we get it? I suppose moist air etc could affect bagged seed until something sets things off. BIG NOTE TO SELF KEEP EYE ON SEED. Anyway Splat hope it's all uphill from here and you get some spectacular birds to make up for all the heartache.

Well thanks Kaz, it's hard when there is conflicting advice around, my vet said it could kill birds if it's not the right mix , so rather than people losing birds I thought it better to warn people. I'll have to read up on Nubbly's posts to work it out further. I bumped up Nubblys topic for you Hi Kaz, showing my lack of computer skill here, what does "bump" or "bumped up" mean? I did go to pinned article on the Ivomec. story from Nubbly so I have read that.

Thanks Periquito, yes it does become addictive. Luckily due to council regs. & near neighbours I have to keep to 50 max. don't tell anyone but with latest chicks I will have about 80 birds all up, look out pet shop I'll have to whittle them down, I try to keep one of each type as well as my good breeders. Looks like some nice pieds as well as spangles in this lot. How do you choose !!!

Hi there, Just came back and found your question. i have put up 6 pairs in seperate cages and have 2 youngsters in 1 & getting their feathers, 2nd pair sitting on 5 eggs, 3rd pair with 4 youngsters all with feathers and so curious:) 5th pair with 1 baby, 6th pair with 3 babies. I did post a question somehwre on here a couple of days ago about ivervectim because I have 1 bird in my aviary that has awful scaly legs and was wondering if it maybe caused by a mite or even mosquitoes? I have looked everywhere in the pet shops but cannot fnd ivervectim. I thought I also saw something they called Scatt on this site some time back but once again having trouble finding it. Would be great if someone has any suggestions. Thanking you in anticipation. Dazler2 Hi Dazler, just read you post, I noted Kaz has told you where to aquire Ivomectin. Please check some have said use Ivomectin pour on (as in cattle) Ivomectin for birds is different. If you contact a vet. some will make it up for you for birds, you may have to shop around. I got a 20 ml bottle for about $20.00 I have dosed my birds every three months, for nearly 2 yrs it does heaps of birds, 1 drop behind head. Hope this helps. Great to see you taking up breeding again good luck with it all. Sounds like you've made a good start. We like pics as well.

Hi All, Adding some new pics with a query. Parents. 2nd round chicks. 4 spangle 1, 1 looking pure white. Query.. What would this chick be? d.e.clear or d.f.spangle? if it stays pure white.

A WORD OF WARNING GUYS. JUST CHECKED WITH MY VET TO MAKE SURE .IVOMECTIN FOR BIRDS IS BROKEN DOWN WITH OTHER THINGS, THEY DON'T USE POUR ON IT'S A DIFFERENT ONE SO YOU COULD KILL YOUR BIRDS IF YOU USE POUR ON. Please check with an Avian vet before using it.
  14. great to see your system is working. Hope it clears for you shortly, it looks pretty but glad it's not here.

some pretty birds there. I love the pied's, great pics by the way wish mine were that clear.
  16. I wouldnt ...............he isnt just an egg eater he's a fighter, a scrapper. I would sell him on with full disclosure as to his faults ( i.e. not as a breeder ). Thanks Kaz. Well hen seems to be sitting on remaining 2 eggs (1 was cracked) , hope they hatch. Will keep an eye on Cock in aviary to see he doesn't cause trouble there.
  17. She won't go near it with the lid closed, so its open so she can explore it at her own time. It had been in there for 8 months previously and she wouldn't go anywhere near it, even if I placed her in it and closed the lid lol, it has wood shavings in it Is there any way to treat it? Other than treating its causes first by having the cause identified, no other treatment other than what you are already doing.......... http://www3.sympatic...n/obstruct.html I've been to 2 separate bird vets [which have costed me an arm and a leg] and they have both said she is healthy, so I dunno what else it could be. I don't think you need to put her in the box. I would keep lid on box and let her get used to it being there. When she is ready she will find her way into the box to breed on her own, it may be that the Cock bird isn't doing his job or maybe it's her, if it's the cock bird she probably would still lay, even if infertile eggs, if she's in breeding condition. Not all birds end up breeding. I don't think the vet's can help if they say she's healthy, just let nature take it's course.
  18. Thanks Kaz., That old hindsight being a wonderful thing? If it is the Cock bird would this be an ongoing problem, which I now think it is, as neither hen had a problem before.or Would it be worth trying him again?
  19. Hi all, I bought new grey cock for "new blood" in aviary. Paired him with hen1, whom I had bred no problems. She laid 1 egg, eaten, laid 2 more both attacked. Did not know if hen or cock doing it. Changed hens, she laid 1 egg okay, laid 3 now, to-day cock birds cere bloodied eggs okay. then found cock attacking hen on floor of cage. Marked eggs, removed cock. Replaced him with cock that had bonded with this hen before . Within minutes they were mating etc. NOW is it likely she will stay on eggs? continue laying rest of cycle or not. I don't have another hen with eggs this age, ( 2 looking fertile already) to foster eggs, only hen laying has 6 & 2 chicks. Would hen have attacked cock to protect her eggs? never had this before. Hoping she stays on eggs as at least they would be some " new blood" and would I try Cock again? Any thought's welcome as this is a new experience for me.

Hi Felix, I think Maesie mis read post but as she said click on the link under her signature on how to post photo's and it will explain. You upload pics to photobucket, it's free to open an account, then follow directions from Maesie and see how you go.
  22. If they are both in breeding condition, you have put a breeding box in, so, I would CLOSE the lid so it is dark. Mine won't breed in open box's only closed box's with removable lids to check eggs etc. if you add a bit of wood shavings she may throw it out but it will show she's been in, cleaning out the nest ready to breed. Hope this helps.

HI, I guess it's just like a cat and dog forming a special friendship. You will notice at times same sex budgies feeding each other, not a problem just "flock" behaviour. As to your query about budgie hatchling it relates to amount of posts, as you have more posts you will become a mature budgie like Pride(next post under yours) or mine.silver wings(which I just noticed myself) cheers.

Wow Daz, just sat and read your aviary journey. (hubby at bowls) awesome job, the rest of us can but dream of a set up like that, congratulations on your major effort and good luck with your birds from here on in.
  25. either way that is one pretty bird.
