Thank"s 2 are from one nest of 7. Other chick is unrelated but nearly identical.
  2. Any updates on you chicks Splat? Hope things are settled down now.
  3. Nice chicks Jason, with only 2 at least you can follow the steps/stages they go through better, if it's your first clutch. Gives you a better understanding of future clutch's. Good luck with it.

Thanks Mana, spangles are now in kindy cage. Have 5 new eggs. ( pet types) , but have added a couple of show culls to improve size etc. seems to be working.
  5. Thank you Neville, I may try him out, if to starts to show any interest in a hen.
  6. Thank's Kaz, well don't know if I'd try to breed peanut he's only small unless I could find a bit bigger hen and see what happens. Dom. Pied is in quarantine so hopefully by the end of that he may come into breeding condition.
  7. Hi All, I bred this little cutie, peanut Aug 2009 (pet type) since then I have tried to decided hen or cock? shows no interest either way. Comes over to me in aviary for a chat. I'm leaning towards hen but don't know hope someone can help I have 2 new birds from a show, culls I think, I wanted some "new blood" Cobalt is fairly small but really like grey Dom?? pied again it's just a quess. Also pied's cere is neither blue nor brown it's a cock I think but how do you tell if it's in breeding condition?

Hi All, I am going to TRY to add some pics of some of my new bubs. Photobucket has changed since I last posted pics. so hope they work out. This is a couple of last seasons birds. Don't know if this is correct mutations, just a stab in the dark. l.o.l. as usual
  9. Are they for real !!! or just pulling everbody's leg to see what response they get?
  10. GO THE CABINETS !! Mine are only pet types but after trying colony it only took one bloodied hen to convert to cabinets. Far less trouble, and you have the control over which birds pair up.
  11. Well things seem a bit brighter for you Splat. Hope you get some good chicks in the end. My first 2 chicks popped out of nest box yesterday,( nest of 7.) Had 24 eggs in 4 nests, lost 1 chick and 5 clear, 18 chicks all doing well. With rain, rain, and more rain!!!
  12. Hope things settle soon Splat, do you think different breeding seasons make different problems? I have pet only but Feb. nestings, not a problem, but have 4 pr down now and seem to have a different things happening, like choice of seed, greens etc. seem to be different to what birds took in Feb. ????
  13. Hi Scitty, Just a query, in your picture it looks like loose ribbons in cage? If so, they can be a danger to birds getting strangled etc. also sandpaper can make their feet sore so newspaper may be a better option. Don't know sex or mutation but it's a lovely bird.
  14. Hi Ralph, If you go to F.A.Q. on bbc then Breeding budgerigars, you will find everything you need to know listed there. You can read up on everything before you attempt to breed. You can then refer back to it for any problem you encounter. That's all you need, lots of reading but well worth the effort.
  15. Why not leave it to the birds? I have a bowl of fine shellgrit in my aviary and the birds do "eat" it or whatever, some may not indulge but it's there if they decide to have a pick.
  16. Looks a lovely area, do you have budgies in both aviary's?

Thanks all, haven't been "on" for a while. Yes 4 of Aquarius's chicks are spangle 2 also show cinnamon so I think he is also carrying cinnamon,( if so those 2 should be hens) if I have got the sex linked bit sorted. They are now in aviary with others. Lovely soft shades nice chicks. The ones I now have I'll be keeping I won't breed again until March or so. I have bred quite a few big clutches. Aquarius had 10 eggs raised 9, from last season, this time he had 7 from 8 eggs. Mine are pet types I think someone said they have bigger clutches than show birds. Thanks again for you comments.

Thank's Sunnie, chick you mentioned has the green patch between wings and has a little patch of green on lower abdomen near each leg.
  19. Really sorry to hear about dusty Kaz, at least you know you gave her every chance for a happy life even though it was short. I'm keeping a picture of her in my photo files anyway.
  20. Thank you Birdluv. Have to look for more candidates for next year.
  21. Great finally got one !! Couldn't really tell in aviary but picture showed it a lot better.
  22. Yet another update. Well all 7 babies are nearly ready for kindy. Colours range from violet , mauve, to grey mostly spangle. Just posted pics budgie pictures. So I won't be concerned about changing cere's now. Just keep an eye on things.
