My Ferdinand (Feather Duster)
By trimming his feathers, so he can see, would probably add to his quality of life so to speak. It will give him a bit of enjoyment to be able to check out his surrounds. Well done.

New To Breeding
It sounds like they are still warning each other off. If it were me I think I would still remove the cock bird. The safety of the chicks is first priority, if they fight again they might decide to abandon the chicks or worse still one could kill the other or start on the chicks.

Egg Question
So sorry you lost the little one Nadene. You did all you could in an urgent situation. It's all a learning exercise isn't it.

New To Breeding
I would not put him back in. Hen could feed 4 on her own with plenty of seed greens etc. As long as you know Dad was the aggressor. Dad usually takes over a lot of feeding around 2 weeks but Mum could cope. Keep an eye on her to see she is feeding chicks and they are thriving. Let us know how you go, somebody here will be able to advise you better than I that have had more experience .

Is She A Skyblue Greywing?
Hi, as to the tail bobbing, how long have you had her? It may be just stress from moving etc . Have you quarantined her if she's new. I'd keep a close eye on her to see it's not respiratory, or some other illness. If she starts to look fluffed up etc she will need help or vet advice.

Breeding Advise Sought
Hi, about your bird turning from blue to brown etc. I have one that does this he seems to change the colour of his cere when he moults . He has bred some great chicks. I was told to give him liquid Iodine in his water as it could be lack of Iodine. It's aqueous iodine 7 drops to a litre of water. He did change back to blue but sometimes he still goes back to brown. Just because he has "paired" up with another Cock doesn't mean they are a pair. I have 2 brothers who are constantly with each other preen each other etc but they are both male.

New Member From Vic
Hi Welcome to the bbc, sorry you lost your birds, do you still have a dog? l.o.l. It's just a big learning curve I think, just when you think your starting to get it sorted, something you haven't had before crops up. Good luck with new birds. Don't forget about quarantine though.

Egg Question
Hope little one thrives for you Nadene, are you trying to hatch out rest of eggs? looking at your picture you can see them. How long before they are due?I hope your incubator turns up asap.fingers crossed. Just found a couple of splayed legs in nest, Mum is heavy spangle, I think that's the problem older chicks are splayed, so far 4 little ones (including Anzac / aka "digger") seem okay maybe because the bigger ones are stopping her sitting so tight. Out with pipe cleaners, I tried little hair rings but hen pulls them off.

Egg Question
Hi Nadene, Is mum feeding new chick or do you have to hand rear? Good luck either way. It's seems to be a" funny season" this time. l.o.l.

Wild Type
Hi, really nice greens. They are greens really great little birds, yet pet shops don't seem to want to buy greens. They say they are too hard to get rid of, but they are after all the forerunner of all others.

Cinn & Bitsa And Aqua And Patches
Cute chick, it looks like it could be splayed though, have you checked for that?

After Some Advice
Hi Kylie, sounds a bit like the rock and hard place. If cage 3 hatched any other chicks I think I would watch for a little while to see if she pushes it out. If so I think I would grab it and put it in with cage 1 again, if chick is active she may feed it as it's about same as her own. I had one I thought I'd lose a few days ago. In desperation I fed it a drop or two warm water and honey. It picked up a bit and then Mum fed it, it's going great guns now. If Mum/ cage 1 again doesn't feed it I suppose you could try a bit of hand feeding, to see if it picks up a bit and then try her again. Good luck with it, it's hard when you wait 3 weeks for chicks and end up losing them.

Thanks for the info. Kaz just one to keep in mind if the event arises.

Egg Size
Hi splat, I think I have one as well in another nest .( Pair that bred my only d.f. spangle.) 1 more in nest looks promising though. Anzac is going great guns now, only Hubby wants to call it " digger " instead. 2 more chicks now making 6 in that nest 1 to go, she had 2 clear as well.

Trying To Breed My Budgies
If you only attached breeding box this month, it will take a while for them to come into breeding condition. etc. I think you will have to be patient a bit longer for them to breed.

Egg Size
Thanks Nadene, Anzac looking good toda, y fully fed and burrowing in under siblings.

Egg Size
Well my big egg hatched 1 day early, had to remove it from egg, very weak. Not fed, gave it a drop of water and honey after a couple hours thinking it was going to die. now 1 day old with 3 day old chick from another nest. Looking good so far( I'm naming it anzac) if it survives.Tough little things aren't they.

Another Lost Budgie
HI, she looks to be in pretty good condition even if she has scaly face. I'm not sure about the Ivomectin you have, we use 1 drop behind head. You can try vaseline over the scaly face. It smothers the little mites that cause it.

Is My Baby A Boy Or Girl?
Do you also have picture of it's back?

New Adopted Babies
Both pretty birds, how long have you had them? If cock has had sore foot and they haven't had much flying exercise, maybe he just gets tired after flying for a while. If that's the case I'd just give him a little bit longer each time he's out so he can build up his wing muscles. If they are caged without room to fly they lose the ability to fly far.

Unclear Diagnosis
Does she get Iodine Zingo? IF it was thyroid problem that may help. If her cere is changing, not into breeding condition, it could help,( using aqueous iodine 7 drops a litre water ).

Pink Budgie Nest 2012
Good luck with your chicks, don't suppose missing hen could have got out when you entered flight somehow.? They are so quick it's hard to keep eye on all of them even with safety door.

My Ferdinand (Feather Duster)
Lovely pics guys, Both doing well. While on subject of F.D. is it known, say if you get one chick in a clutch, are you likely to get more from that pairing or is it just a one time thing that can pop up or is it "Parent has to have the gene" type of thing.

Soft Food Query
