  1. I'm afraid I'm not the person to help. Just reading up on things Albino is a sex linked mutation. I think if Mum is albino and not Dad all her Albino chicks would be male. Then again I could have my wires crossed, someone will correct this if I'm wrong. As to if you could get green it would depend on what the birds are split to. Beautiful pics by the way, keep them coming as they grow.
  2. Is snow an Albino? If so would your 2 red eyed chicks be Cock birds? (Just speculating) :)
  3. Taking a punt I'd also say 2 boys last one girl. (should we be saying cocks and hens?) l.o.l.
  4. Beautiful chicks, whatever their mutations.
  5. Great to see people touch base again. We novice/pet owner types are really missing the input from the more knowledgeable members. It's hard to comment on things we don't yet understand (wonder if I ever will ) like genetics etc.
  6. Love the pastel shades, some lovely birds there Finnie. Hope you achieve your goals, every clutch is different so you never know what to expect.
  7. Are you treating her with Ivomectin? If so I don't think it would affect chicks, if you leave it and she has scaly face mites she could maybe pass them on to chicks I don't know. Just a quess but I think treating her would be your best option (one drop on back of neck) of Ivomectin and repeat in 2 weeks if it's not clearing up. p.s. only treat Mum not chicks.
  8. Well, we need you as well Nubbly, especially on the mutations etc. us dumb bunnies can't help out with those query's
  9. Sorry guys as Sarah stated above it's a she !!!

Hi Em & welcome. Lots to learn on here !!
  11. If you can sweep up most of the seed husk before you hose out it should be okay. ( If your aviary is big enough for that) I do mine every weekend and dispose of husks I scrape and sweep out then hose if it's needed.
  12. Sorry you lost your cock bird Dillster, does that leave you with 2 hens or is one other male. Was it the fellow with scaly face? Maybe he had other issues as well. Keep a close eye on your others just in case.
  13. Very quiet Matt, I think they have all hibernated for the winter!!! When does breeding season usually start for showies??

It's very exciting to have your first chicks hatch. Good luck with it all,l if you have been reading all info on here you should have a bit of knowledge on things. It's a big learning curve if you don't have any close breeders to advise you. You can always post on here any problems you are having for some advice.
  15. It would depend on whether you have eggs, chicks etc. If you have a pair down to breed I usually check ever 2 days, to note dates of eggs so you know when they are due to hatch. Once the chicks hatch I still check each day to make sure chicks are fed etc. It's a personal preference I think, mine are caged when breeding and used to me opening nest box so it's not a problem.
  16. The one I get it from is a general practice, we are a country township. A phone call to your local vet should tell you.
  17. Looking at this picture you would have to say hen. BUT I have a cock bird (he's had chicks) but his cere changes from blue to brown. I had a post on here somewhere about him. I was advised maybe lack of Iodine, gave him soluble Iodine in his water (from chemist) 7 drops a litre I think. He returned to a blue cere. now he's back to brown again but he's about 6 yrs old, I'm not breeding him now, he seems to change when he moults. I'd try to pair this bird with a COCK bird and see if you get any response. Good luck with the puzzle.

Well Allen is one pretty bird. Glad you worked out how to post pics. Love the one in flight, mine always turn out blurred !!
  19. Ivomectin from vet for birds. I pay around $8.00 for a small bottle, I have 50 odd birds and that's enough for several times a year. One drop behind head, using an eye dropper every 3 mths. is my method. It's supposed to get rid of a lot of worms e.g. air sac mites etc also scaly face mites. If you treat it, keep it isolated from others so you can keep check. If it doesn't seem to be clearing repeat about 2 weeks later.(so I was advised) If you have other birds, that haven't been treated and they have all been caged together I'd do the lot, once even if they don't show any scale. Other may have more advice for you.
  20. Hi Monica, If you want a bird to learn to talk etc. I'd say only get one male baby, maybe 8-10 weeks, as It's coming on to breeding time there should be some young chicks around shortly. If you can find a local budgie club you may be able to ask someone where you could purchase a chick. Other than that check out your local pet stores and see what they have to offer, if it's a good store they should be able to help you.I'd do a lot of reading about taming etc in the f.a.q. so you know how to go about it. Hope this helps a bit. p.s cages. wider rather than tall dome shaped ones so they have room to move. Perches front to back, so they don't just shuffle along perch but have to jump/fly from one to the other for exercise.
  21. I'd say Lional is a "he". I have one very similar (cere colouring) who is a male and bred lovely chicks. The hen's cere would turn brown, but if he's stayed the same for that long, neither one or the other I'd say male.
  22. Hi around the 3 mths mark.
  23. thanks Dillter, when I looked it said posted image but no picture??? but they are back today. I have been checking him each day and it looks like there could be little flights starting to grow so hopefully he was just really slow growing them in. Thanks for the replies though, it helps when you come across something odd.
  24. Just checking my post MY PICS HAVE VANISHED???
  25. Others could tell you for sure but I think it looks male. (I'm no expert by any means). It looks like it still has baby stripes on head so I'd say under 3 mths old.
