  1. Whomever let this bird get that bad should be @#>#@@ and ashamed of themselves. Well done for taking it in and trying to help the poor thing. With it's beak and claws clipped it would be more comfortable. The scaly face could take a while to clear up, if you haven't noticed much change you can repeat Ivomectin.after 2 weeks. It will also clear up any internal worms air sac mites etc it could be carrying.( Sorry Hilly just re-read your advice again) no wonder she looks so sad in picture 2. Looks like she may be a nice bird if she recovers well. Just as a caution I'd keep it well away from your other birds for quarantine, as you would already know I suppose. Please post more pics as you go.

  3. Beautiful little video Chirpy, wish I had those computer skills. Well done.

Does it have the 2 yolks Nadene or is it an oversized egg? I had a really big egg last season but it was just the one chick, he's a big bird but not unusually so. Good luck if it's a double. Fingers crossed, you'll have to keep a diary on this one.

Hi Nadene, if you can see 2 yolks and it's fertile, you may get twins with a heap of luck. I think Kaz had an item on it somewhere with pics of twins.
  6. Do you have aviary or cage? Depends on age etc of your new bird. If it's to be put in with existing birds it will need to be quarantined for 3 weeks or so so make sure it's not carrying and disease it could pass to your other birds. I personally give all new birds a drop of Ivamectin on back of neck, whether it shows any symptoms of illnes or not. It should clear up any internal worms etc it may have. Then I do my birds every 3 months. If you are getting bird from breeder, ask a few questions, like, what mutation it is,. what parents were etc, for future referance also what diet it has been given so you can try to use similar veges etc. Hope that helps a bit, others can probably add more, if you give us some more details.
  7. Good luck with your eggs Budgie_mad. Keep us posted on your progress.
  8. It's a shame you had to sell her Vargur. She looks to have very fine long feathers a bit different to the normal budgie. Do you still have any like her?

Hi and welcome, if you have 100 birds I don't think you would need much help but it's on here if you do,
  10. Great job Pebble, lovely chicks to show from all your hard work. If you have bought a show pair are you going to try showing birds or just a hobby? I only have pet types but I have a few show bird culls and I paired one show with one pet and it made a huge difference to my birds, (size and improved looks) I'm really pleased with the improvement. I don't know how they would compare with show stock but they are well above the average pet shop buds. Worth a try.

Thanks everyone, I really love the breeding part of buds seeing what colours etc, unfortunately I was over my "quota" for my aviary, so, to be able to breed again I had to sell some of my birds to make room. I keep my favourites and breeding birds. It's hard deciding what to sell but it's either that or just stop breeding.

Very nice, is the lower bud a y.f grey or is it mauve. As they still have their bars they should colour up more after first moult.
  14. Hi Jenny,Great article, you must have heaps of birds to be that great with their diet, we are what we eat they say. Jenny maybe your computer needs to have any dust etc removed from the fan. That's all was wrong with mine (if you know about computers that is)
  15. Lovely chicks Kathryn, I get the Cinnamon but that's about my knowledge on genetics. I really will have to try harder !!!
  16. robyn replied to Noddy's topic in New to BBC
Welcome Noddy, great hobby this is but addictive.
  17. She must have really loved it Nadene, so far mine have just looked at it, had a nibble at the leaves and that's it. Will keep trying them though.
  18. Well done Pebble, I think the first clutch is pretty special also. Glad you have put all your reading and advice together, to end up with 5 chicks. Don't forget the pics. That will really top it off for you.

    Welcome Cashie.
  20. Well B.J. if it works on mice & men !!, I did read (never tried it so far) if a newly hatched chick hasn't been fed, you can give it natural yogurt as first feed, until parents take over etc, maybe if someone did an experiment with breeding pairs, in a lead up to breeding. Mixed with soft food etc in preparation for breeding season maybe it could help to show if it's of benefit. Not being that way inclined myself, I pass. Interesting though.
  21. Hi Gaby, sorry you have lost your birds. Did you notice any other symptoms with your 2 birds? e.g. when they have a respiratory infection they can make a clicking or wheeze type of noise as they breath. Air sac mites etc can also cause them to die quickly. OR you may not get the noises but they can be very sick. As a first response if you have Ivomectin I'd give them a drop of that on neck a.s.a.p. It may help ward off a more serious disease until you can find the cause. Good luck with the rest of your birds.
  22. Hi just to add, it will take awhile for this to clear up. If it doesn't improve repeat the Ivomectin after 2 weeks. Also if you have both birds in together check your other bird for signs of scaaly face. It would not hurt to treat it at the same time, get in first so to speak. I treat my birds every 3 months with Ivomectin as it clears up any worms etc your birds may be carrying aswell as scaly mites.
  23. lovely birds, great pics by the way.
  24. Looks promising J.B., are you having it fully enclosed or are you having some flight open to the elements? I only bred 4 cages last season ended up with 38 chicks from (2 rounds with 1pr) those 4 nests.
  25. Hi Wendel, Your birds look very nice you have some lovely colours, love your Lutino's.
