  1. Bought a new aviary with nest boxes in it, and when I was taking them down found a dead budgie in one.... lets just say I contacted the aviaries previous owner. When I had my breeding cages outside still I looked in a nest and closed the box lid. Came back the next morning to find it open a good 10cm (because I hadn't closed it properly) but luckily the hen was still in the box, peering at me like What the ****??? The lid was open for a good 12-14 hours. Came out of my aviary and shut the door. Forgot to bolt the latch as I was watching birds (I have an outside flight). Came back a day or two later and saw it unbolted. Lucky the aviary is slightly downhill and gravity did its job, but I don't even want to imagine my losses if the wind picked up. I am very paranoid about making sure they are bolted now. Had birds in wire cages with no trays as they are mounted. 10 youngsters just out of nests. Went away for 3 days, so I put quite a few extra feeders in. Came home to see them with absolutley no seed and very lathargic, they had tipped the seed dishes over on the first day (no husks) so they hadnt eaten in 3 days. Lucky they had baby fat on them still, I cropped them all and none died. I always make sure I have at least one dish on the cage side now.
  2. I think She is an YF Blue (violet?) Spangle. grey would be from the spangle maybe, is a light or darker black/grey? I htink she is moulting into her adult splumage, where the yellowface bleeds into the cheat feathers.
  3. She is gorgeous, YF Blue Spangle I think.
  4. Is this the same pair from a while back that was happening? Gorgoeus birds, He has his flirty eyes on
  5. Youngest looks normal.... other two birds are spangle blues.
  6. Pictures soon The cock is grey green, so he carries the blue factor in him with the grey.
  7. Chick died last night. Parents were not feeding him, so I fostered him. That hen fed him, but I found him dead in the morning, I think he was to far gone. I think he was feather duster, he hasnt changed at all since the lats pictures, apart from I could see he was going to be grey. I belive he was from the albino nest, and now they have another chick I will see what that one is. I did crop the chick, but I don't think he had the will to live.
  8. Wow, I have completley forgot to update The 3 fertile eggs have all hatched. Chick 1- Aug 26. Chick 2- Aug. 27. Chick 3- Aug 30. (today) Chicks are looking healthy and well, and growing quite fast.
  9. Gorgeous bird, Violet?? A couple more of mine:
  10. If I manage to breed a Melanistic hen out of my DF and you would like one, I will gladly help you out I was wondering what the funny pattern on her wings was, I know it looked kinda familiar From when I read on here about them . Didn't wanna seem like an idiot asking though Melanistic spangle, Gorgeous.
  11. Ah yes I see the heavy bodied bit now. I just thought, with the cocks head and the hens well not so good head, but I can see what you mean now. The blue fallow hen is also pulling it looks like, so that may be why I can't see the face feautures so much. Your photography is pretty good Thankyou so much for the explanation, your an angel
  12. Absolutely stunningly gorgeous birds. I would die to have some of them in my aviary The BES hen is heaps bigger then the cock! She looks like a stunning hen. The clearwings Pair 14 hen and pair 16 cock have VERY clear wings, looks very nice Pair 19 Cock Fallow is stunningly gorgeous! Just wondering, but if I was in your position I would have put him with the fallow hen in pair 21. Have you considered this, and if so why did you choose not to do it? (I am not meaning to sound like I know more, just wondering what you would think of the pairing??) Gorgeous birds
  13. I think your birds like the beetroot (or strawberry??)
  14. My bad, I just realised I said it wrong. If Kramer (cock) is split cinnamon and the hen is a visual then you will get cinnamon cocks and hens, normal hens, and normal/cinnamon cocks. If Kramer isn't split then you will get all normals, with the cocks being split cinnamon. Sorry, needed to adjust my mind back to cinnamon genetics.
  15. My thoughts on her mutation are: Cinnamon Violet Recessive Pied Hen maybe spangle. I have a hen like her that is blue instead of violet, but I am hoping to get some violets from the clutch as the dad is one. All of Hedwig and Kramers chicks will be split for pied, and the cock birds will be split cinnamon and the hens visual cinnamon. (That is if the cock and hen aren't split anything)
  16. GORGEOUS BIRDS! Lovley flock of birds, I wish I had all of my pet-types still *sigh* A couple names: Makka ( also spelt Macka or Macca) Sizzle Azure (maybe a bit girly? ) Azzurro Azul
  17. Ah, now I can see it. Male
  18. ???? Whats your question Squeak ? If you read that topic there is sick and dying birds and none of them were quarantined. I am saying there is a very real need for quarantine. You seem to be defending this position ? Sorry, I thought you were saying about the birds on here dying. Some people choose not to do so. some people should no better :mallet: s-q were are on a public fourm trying our best to teach people to do the best things for not only their birds but them also quarantine is not about bills birds are healthy so im not going to quarinteen its as kaz stated ,.. timmy may be very healthy but be a carrier of paraciciosses ( still cant spell or say that one )and tammy, buck n fred may all be holders of a low canker count bringing these four birds together could be the death of timmy from canker as hes not amun to it as the others are being in their environment for so long it does not cause problem as they are not under stress and jimmy for the other three birds is a true death sentence as as soon as he sheds with molt or starts to feed the other birds hes going to pass on his illness that he has harbored since a young chick maybe even from nest age quarantine is very important and as a up and coming show breeder and a young person whom wishes to take part and do their best to join in and try and help others out and edgicate them on birds when its clear with alot of things you write you yourself lack the needed knowledge in most areas im going to have to say i think you need to be very careful of what you say on here you may choose not to quarantine and others may be with them but regardless were here to teach people the proper way to care for and introduce their birds to each other so that they have the choise and total understanding of the consequences they may face if they neglect to do so so from me quarantine is a very necessary important role of being a responsible bird owner and for record i lack knowledge myself at times so im not having a go at your imput just be awear you may have people whom listen to you alot more than you would imagined it is a world wide forum after all people do have favorites to have advice from I agree 100% totally, I quarintine all of my birds also. It is just sometimes people may feel a bit intimidated on here when they come ontot this forum, and some people on here get on the defensive side saying that it was so irresponsible of them not to quarintine. Personally, I never sell birds privatley without letting the person be aware of the precautions they should take if they are intorduing the birds to a new flock.
  19. Some people choose not to do so. Some people need to be educated about the NEED for it then, dont they ? Yes, I think most new pet buyers do. But the birds have already been put in, and for all we know the budgies could ahve already been quarintined at another persons house.
  20. Some people choose not to do so.
  21. Ah excellent, so if it's too busy bonding with the other one, he won't show the albino one any affection? Probably not, but even bonded budgies don't spend all their time together I guess this doesn't surprise me too much, he was completely inlove with his mirror until I took it off him too weeks ago so he wouldn't be aggressive when I introduced them all to each other. Males can be very affectionate towards different objects, like tapping their beaks on toys and mirrors etc. They are just very flirtatious birds. He's been a single bird for a long time. If I was to add a hen to the older one, and took the other two away, would he bond with her or would he just be more likely to pine for the 3 year old? Budgies don't really pine, he probably wouldn't show much emotion. I would discourage any breeding between a new hen the the 7yr old. While it has been done, older budgies normally aren't able to have high fertility and cocks soon start to slow down a bit around then. I would pair the new hen to the TCB.
  22. Birds feed each other as a sign of bonding, and also to help supply the female with food for her chicks in the early ages of nesting. Males often bond with each other, even mate with each other. It is nothing to worry about though, they are just showing that they are good friends
