Show Bird Prep. Help
Great job !! Thankyou Everyone I was very thrilled, but the judge made a comment on his lack of show cage training (nothing seems to work with him!) but said when he did show he was the better bird. You guys know how it goes, he was happy to perch after the judge had looked at him.... Also, thanks nubbly for the info, but I think I forgot to say I actually didnt end up spotting him at all.

Wow, and eventful 24 hours. I got home yesterday to find the foster chick dead on the floor, parents blood all over them, half eaten. Three TCB's automatically taken out, and after a discussion with Kaz, I removed the mother and put the chicks on the floor in an icecream container. One chick was begging for food, the other two were lying down. The dad immediatley targeted the ones lying down, after giving a swift nip to the one begging. He begun to chew on the younger birds feathers. I immediatley shooed him away, and took the birds out. Only then did I realise they had been minorly feather plucked. I was fortunate enough to have a club meeting last night, otherwise I don't know what I would have done. The closest two breeders to me only have eggs and pinkies, and it appears most of the breeders in my club had that also. (my other three nests all have eggs) I am fortunate enough for forum member, Sunnie, to have taken the three chicks that night. I crop fed them twice, that afternoon and at the meeting. Sunnie had a father finsihing raising a clutch of chicks that were feathered, but not perching/eating yet (correct me if wrong, Sunnie :rip: ) The most recent update I have is this: Baby update: I put one of the babies in with the foster pair this morning at about 6am. By 8am when I left for work, it didnt really look as if he had been fed, but neither had the other chick. I will obviously check on them when I get home, fingers crossed he will be adopted. I crop fed the other two about that time and changed their box, cleaned it up and reheated their wheat bag. I have brought them into work with me and have just changed their box, reheated their bag and fed them again. They seem to be doing fine.

Show Bird Prep. Help
Because I am the only junior, I was put in the novice class. There were only two cinnamons (it was a mini show), the other bird being a blue cinnamon hen by forum member Sunnie. I got first place, which I am thrilled about :rip:

it doesnt have to show he is split blue because all of them will be split blue anyway. Yes I know that, but I find some of my green birds that are split blue show blue feathers around vent/rump/ lower chest area. Or even bleeding in the wings.- Show Bird Prep. Help
Illegal!?! As is disqualification/penalising or as in against the law ( ) Just sounded funny. Trsut me, I won't be fiddling to much.- Violet Clearbody X Grey-green Clearbody
Yes, they are make-up sponges. I have previously used white ones, but I thought maybe I should change the colour, so i got green ones. So far the parents haven't been picking.- Green And Blue Feathers On The Same Budgie
I think it will either moult out, or show that he is split blue- Show Bird Prep. Help

Hmm okay. I may practice with some stock birds in the aviary first. Thanks for the great tips!!- Violet Clearbody X Grey-green Clearbody
Yup. Normally I make a slight dip in the shavings where the concaves would be with my knuckles. I am trying a different brand of sponges, and I am hoping it will work this time.- Violet Clearbody X Grey-green Clearbody
Nesting materials is wood shavings about 3cm deep. I begin to add seed as they get older. They have calcium blocks and they are given calcivet every second day of water.- Show Bird Prep. Help
Also directed at Kaz: That picture of the bird is quite old, I was just trying to show the spots and mask. So You guys reccomend cutting? Also, I removed most of the sheaths on the feather buy just rolling them off, like you said New feathers underneath are nice and clean, no blood feathers.- Splayed Legs In Budgie Babies
Haha sorry that isn't my box! Well, my photography box lol. Even I am not silly enough to use an icecream container as a nesting box. My birds get taken out daily for check ups. My nesting material is wood shavings and seed, mainly seed at this age though. And I have read the entire thread Also only one chick is splayed. I will try the makeup sponge again I think.... or I will try putting a split ring on one leg and linking it to the other closed or split.- Show Bird Prep. Help
boy have I learnt tip one. It wasn't the actual feathers that was a blood feather, it was dirty so I pulled it and blood came up. I probably should have just worked the blood off of it with water.- Show Bird Prep. Help
Hello! My first show is fast approaching, being on Monday. I am showing a grey-green cinnamon cock. Two problems. 1. My birds cheeks are revoltingly muddled and cluttered with spots, I don't know which to pull??! 2. I pulled a feather on the birds head that was a little bloody, he is coming out of moult just now and has a ocuple feather cases left, it looks like one burst earlier on. So, I pulled the feather. But more blood came from where I pulled it?! Is this just going to be a cycle? Help, Apprecitated!!! Thankyou!!- Splayed Legs In Budgie Babies
Just wondering, but I have a chick that I have tried this method on, and the parents are very persistant. I have gone through 3 sponges in 4 days, with the parents chewing it and tearing it. They dont eat it, just use it for nest lining. What will happen if this chick develops into an adult? Picture of chick in nest: (Far right)- Violet Clearbody X Grey-green Clearbody
Assuming you mean the violet, (they are all opaline) As stated above I have treid string and makeup sponge, but mum or dad chews it off all the time Dad is begginning to take care of chicks- Bird Reduction Auction, Sa
