  1. Looking at him I am begginning to think he is a mop. By the way, my hands aren't small at all. He really is quite big Are his wings unorganised and jumbled just as a baby thing, or is he a mop?
  2. Looking Good Dave! I like the idea of a solar panel. When I get around to building mine (probably when we move house in a year or two) I thik I will use the solar light, as then we wouldn't need to get expensive wiring and electricty etc done.
  3. I got another chick on the 2nd, and I am expecting one today Pictures soon, chicks arte looking fed and healthy!
  4. Congratulations! I love your cobalt
  5. Thankyou for the great advice everyone. I am feeling quite better, still a bit bummed but better. One lot of good news I have is.... While these birds are "Pet Types" , the cock bird that mated with this hen is actually from show stock. In the nest of three the cock is looking after, there is a violet chick! And not only is it a violet, but it is split rec. pied! I would have considered using him in my recessive pied AND Violet line ( I do violets, rec.pieds and TCBS) Which is great, but a huge bonus is he is turning out HUGE! I was expecting him to just be a bigger pet-type, but he is looking bigger then some of my show type babies
  6. The hen is a light green and cock yf cobalt.
  7. the green ones and mum are also split blue
  8. I feel horrible for you. This hen came from you, I wish I had payed closer attention. Many "What If" 's went through my head after I guess the key to weight loss isn't easier! Maybe we should sign our budgies up for "Weight Watchers"
  9. Gorgeous! I love them all. Red-eyed babies are so cute. They look healthy! Hehe, gotta love the purple rings
  10. We need picture to help us determine. We need a picture of the aviary setup, and also of the birds cere. (it is the fleshy bit above their nose) Also, It sounds like your hen my have scaley mites. Post some pictures and we will be able to help and see if she does. If so, you need to buy so medicine to treat her or you could try putting canola oil on her legs and her face. Just smear it on, once a day for a week. Then let her rest, and put it on again 1 week after for another 2 days. We need pictures.
  11. Violet on my screen also
  12. The last one is a green opaline That is about all I can say for now sorry.
  13. You most likely wont find it amongst show breeders as it is a composite bird not a bird show breeders in a club would be trying to breed. You need to find a pet breeder who dabbles in this or you need to create it yourself by buying in some breeding birds to create a rainbow in stages. It may take some time Kaz is right there! I would cringe at sticking different varieties into my clearwings. It's hard enough to keep them to show standard as it is! But if you can buy a couple of clearwings I suppose you are at least some of the way there. Ask John Mulley if he has any he might sell you. I suppose you are right, even if I could just find some blue series clearwings that would be good.
  14. If it is recessive, and it has to be, that means it must be on both sides. True I don't know why I am saying if it is recessive, because it is. It couldn't be dominant because that means a parents would need to be a visual and it can't be sex-linked because that would mean again a parents would need to be a visual to get a visual cock? Correct me if I am wrong please
  15. Here is the thread:http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....20&start=20 Page 2 has a picture of hen in nestbox No close up photos or proof of this yet They said the hen was green tailed
  16. I moved them to a different styled cage this afternoon, one I normally use for when the dad is finsihing raised fledgling chicks. The cock bird took a little bit to realise where the chick were, but am fairly sure they are being fed now, even if I do need to top them up. I suppose I wouldn't have known the hen was skinny, because visually she didn't look any different. I think I will apply Dave's idea also
  17. Hi Ratzy. That sound like a good plan. I would love to see the aviary progress, so we can offer you tips etc. and just view the journey of you building it. Another way of getting an aviary $ to work out a shared plan. I payed $200 for my current aviary (which I have just finsihed paying off, YES!) and my parents payed for $50 of it and a $20 delivery fee. I am not sure how your parents woudl take it, as every one is different, but my parents decided if I was mature and responsible enough to spend $200 on something I would use, not just a phone I would get bored with or something, they helped encourage it Also, in regards to finding a mate for Chubba Chubs, ishtarsands has a green tailed hen, so you may want to look into somehow working something out with them. In the topic "New Hen" I think. Also, Instead of buying in a new bird if it is recessive, you would do better tyring to breed him back to his mother. (if it is on her side that is) or trying to get them to have another chick that is a hen.
  18. Had a quick look on ebay, couldn't find anything in your area. But try looking in your local paper on the weekend, I know we have a pet classified section and you see aviaries in it alot of the time.
  19. You most likely wont find it amongst show breeders as it is a composite bird not a bird show breeders in a club would be trying to breed. You need to find a pet breeder who dabbles in this or you need to create it yourself by buying in some breeding birds to create a rainbow in stages. It may take some time So maybe if I bought a clearwing blue hen, breed some chicks and keep a yf blue cock bird (split clearwing) and maybe buy in another clearwing hen, and just dabble around with getting the right mutations in? I don't mind if it isn't "technically" a rainbow, just because I sell to petshops and privatley, and birds like rainbows are more likely to attract the eye.
  20. haha, I was thinking how do i spell it, oops.
  21. I thought i would have noticed if she felt skinny or overwight. I normally just feel the kneel bone, isn't it a normal weight if you can feel it, but it isnt sticking out? I am sure I would have noticed if she felt skinny, but I didn't take any notes down or anything.
  22. Clearwings are hard to get onto around here. So either way I need to get 2 birds? okay, So what birds would I need to get if I wanted to have rainbows? I believe Neville has already told you what you need Whoops, okay thanks Kaz. I think I wil need to ask around at the club for a bird like that, doesn't sound to common Thanks GB.
