Feeding Budgie
Your budgie may have been taken to early from the nest. Do you know how old he is? ring the breeder and see if the bird has been eating seed.

Sex Of My First Budgie
Male

Sky Dominant Pied
Correct me if I am wrong PJI But i think what he means is looking at the blood lines behind the parents, as in father and mothers, grandparents etc. Like putting two birds that are quite oridnary to look at , but have parents that are very nice birds. Like history.

Sex Of My First Budgie

Yellow Belly?
as soon as you see a dead chick or a dis you should remove as your leaving a higher risk of oter eggs or hatching's getting contaminated by illness chicks become rotten very fast to leave one in box is just silly you dont know how long it was their in first place and with in few hours it would be rotten inside turning out attract flys extra s-q you need to be fully in this even if its a colant they need same care as cabinets maybe more given the extra watchful eye you need to keep tripple c is great but only medicate if they need it probotic and minerals for a while may be good idea posably mums are not leaving nests to feed so no crop milk to fed new hatched chick spesh if they worryed about other hens around The dead chick was taken out that day, sorry I didn't post. It didn't have yellow belly, and neither did the one this day. I am not sure why the first one died, it had a full crop and was perfectly healthy. It is only the two hens in there, and both chicks have been getting full crops. The nests get checked befroe I go to school and when I come home, plus watching them most the time.

Yellow Belly?
Rain or not Squeak...........you should be checking nestboxes morning and night when chicks are due. If this was cabinet breeding you would be checking more often and rain would not have entered into the picture Updates ?? Sorry kaz, forgot to post. I am sure if you saw our place now though, you would agree. I wore gumboots out there today to check, even then I got wet to the skin. . Has been raining again today, showing no chances of stopping, but I had to check on the birds. But, No more chicks in that nest hatched, but the other nest had one dead chick. It doesnt look like yellow belly, I think it may not have been fed. The other two chicks got there beaks cleaned, and their nails (the hen keeps a very messy nest). I am lucky enough for that aviary not to have water in it, but I waded through a stream to get to it lol.

To The Left And To The Right
Ad already mentioned, he would probably just want to be out with you. Most of the time, I get my budgies out and just sit them on the top of the cage. They are content to watch us do our daily activites, and they dont feel like there is a "barrier" between us ie. cage bars.

Yellow Belly?
Thanks guys. Life is about learning and I will be sure to get some moxti T or Triple C in. I finally got out to the aviary, the hen doesnt have any more chicks but another nest has another dead chick. I haven't taken it out yet, so I don't know if it has yellow belly.

Some Of Our Flock
If this is so, Squeak you need to get some coccivet into their water or your bird will get sick real fast. i agree cocci is not something you want in your flock birds go down fast They aren't fluffed up or sick or anything. I have been giving sunflowers and honey in water for some extra energy, it seemed to have helped. When I mean they aren't as active and chirpy like when it is sunny and nice. The aviary is quite enclosed so it is reasonbly warm and draft free. They were only treated for coccidiosis (sp?) about a month ago, is it safe to do it again? If water gets in the aviary always dose them with coccivet as a matter of course. Sorry for the hijack of the thread, but thanks kaz, I have drained the water out but I will coccivet them.

Yellow Belly?
The egg was a day early I think about 17 days. Most my chicks hatch between 18-20 days. Cinnamon or recessive, it would have been cinnamon I think. It was in my colony breeding, I havent been out in a few days to look in the boxes as it is revolting weather. I think I will need to check later on tonight though, rain seems to be holding off a bit. Thanks Kaz, I hope I don't get more in the clutch. It looks like your chick, so I am kind of glad it was yellow belly and not mum ignoring/not feeding chick.

Yellow Belly?
Hey guys. Checked my boxes a couple days ago, and found this chick. I am not sure if it was fed or not, the hen is a maiden. I am just wondering if this poor chick died of hunger, or does it look like yellow bellow (dead as hatchling) Natrual: Torchlight: Flash:

I Need Help With Clearbody Breeding
I have the most sweetest violet clearbody hen, and her sister won best in show. Violet makes the bird more eye catching, as it just dusts the back and rump which is allowed, Suffusion must only be in the body (I think...). I personally ignore the dark factors, as I don't some judges pick up on that.

Oats
After spending a whole day with budgerigar breeders, including pone person who showed at national level, at the Royal Adelaide Show, we had a lengthy discussion on nutrition in the nest with chicks. One breeder gave his birds hulled oats soaked every morning, another gave her birds bandicoot oats morning and night. ( I also bought he most beautiful violet spangle cock, who got best spangle, but the person who showed him gave him to me for $15 . I was VERY Happy) I realised my birds actually are quite under nourished in that area. They get a soft food mixture with carrot, corn, peas, broccili mixed into porridge oats, bread crumbs from wholegrain bred and egg and biscuit. This is given to all aviary and breeding birds on Tuesdays, Thurdsay's and Sunday's. So I went out and bought my hulled oats. I soaked them over night last night, and gave them to my solo nest with chicks in them. I came back an hour later to fidn most of it gone. I have a couple of questions: - What oats if any do you give your birds? - If you give oats to your birds, what type? - How often? - Does anyone know how much and where to buy bandicoot oats from? - How much do you pay for hulled oats if you give that to your birds?

Some Of Our Flock
I only have cock bird I could part with right now sorry, I have 3 precious hens I need. That said though, there is one hen. A grey-green hen. My avairy is half flooded, all the birds are quite moody and not very active I live in the hills, it has been raining for the past 3 days. I am more specifically staying in Walla Walla, bout 20min drive I think from Albury, but I have family in Albury too.

Help With Mutation Please
The markings seem to be a recessive pied. From what I have experienced of pied, recessive pied have the lower stomach/between the legs marking, where as dominants tend to have a stomach band. I have some clearbody pieds, pretty birds Are you sure the hen has iris rings?

I Need Help With Clearbody Breeding
Most people try not to put dark factors into yellow birds, as it makes the yellow a mustardy grey colour. Same applies to the white series, dark factors can make it dull or greyer. I personally find no difference, but I have noticed my grey-green TCB's are less brilliant looking then my light greens, although the light greens have more suffusion. Ino's do help with the suffusion, as do opalines. As see your cock is already an oplaine though, so that doesn't matter. Clearbodies to the standard may only contain opaline when being showed.
