  1. That is very good to see, Kaz. He is doing well and I hope he will not suffer like that again. It would be great if he chose his own hen and things went smoothly.

Oh, GB I just love those pictures! I am really looking forward to seeing your rainbows. That is what I am wanting to breed.
  4. I do not board my birds because of the sort of things Kaz has mentioned. I would not want them to go into anything other than a new cage or one that I had cleaned. When I go away, I have a house sitter who will care for my birds or else I don't go. Is there a room in your house where your birds could be shut away from the repair work? Do you have a garage where they could stay in the interim? Do you have family without birds who would allow them to live at their place for a while?

Do give them the broccoli. All parts of it are safe. It is a great vegetable because it has different textures for them to experiment with. My birds have it almost every day. Some days, there are only the finest fibres left over. I think home grown broccoli would be superb.

Awww! That chick in the first picture is soooo cute! I am very sorry you lost the miracle chick's sibling. It was a great pity about the rampant hen destroying her nest. I hope all your other babies do well and their parents behave themselves.

It seemed like wire to me. I will check it out again. Would it be suitable either way?

I am thinking of dividing my (inside) bird room so that I can let my budgies fly around in one half of it. My cockatiels will be in the other half. I have examined many possibilities and the most suitable material to use seems to be a wire mesh where the squares made by the wires are 12.7mm x 12.7mm. The wire is 1.00mm thick. Would this mesh be safe? Also, would I need to treat the mesh in any way before I use it? It is described as 'PE coated galvanised wire mesh'. Is there something better which I could use?

That is fantastic! Phoenix was the name I was thinking of as I read through the post.

Yes, it contains iron. Silver beet is good, too. Both provide entertainment because the budgies enjoy ripping up the leaves. It is easy to keep a bunch of bok choy crisp. I carefully wash the bunch in water containing aviclens. I shake the excess water off and place the bunch in a plastic container lined with paper towels. I put the lid on and keep the container in the fridge.
  17. The ingredients are carbohydrate dense. It you have cage birds and they do not get a lot of exercise, I would make bread an occasional treat only. Mine like wholegrain bread too. I do not like the idea of them having salt and preservative so I make them a pumpkin bread using wholegrain flour but with no rising agent, no salt and no preservative. Pumpkin has a lot of fibre and less carbohydrate than rice and potato.

I think you should give them the whole stalk. My budgies usually eat the green leaf first and then the stalk. Sometimes they eat the stalk away first and then they eat the leaf after it has dropped to the ground.
