  1. Well done. Congratulations.
  2. Yes, I agree with what you folk have been discussing. I think there is a real need for a guide on how to sex young budgies because they are the ones pet shops mostly sell. My local pet shop makes a reasonable job of caring for the birds but they talk piffle to customers about them e.g. "Siblings can breed together. It doesn't matter with birds."

    Congratulations!!! Well done. :hooray:
  4. Congratulations. It is a great photo!
  5. I looove the video, Kaz.
  6. Thank you, corka and RIP. So it is still the same as my father taught me, then: drive with your ears.
  7. I recently bought a new car with a 1.3L engine and am very disappointed in it. I have enquired about a new Corolla because of the 1.8L engine. I have had one before. The salesman replied by email to my questions and said that it now has a 6 speed gear box. I asked how one is supposed to drive a car like that. He replied that it is designed for fuel economy and the lower the revs the better. Well, I know that!! I only drive around town and seldom cruise so I do not often use the 5th gear I have. I only want more power so that I do not have to change down gears dramatically after I have had to slow a bit. Trying to zoom into a gap in the traffic is tragic unless I change down one or 2 gears, which is ridiculous. The 1.3L is scarily slow to get moving again once the clutch is out and I cannot get used to it. I don't like automatics because they do not respond instantly. So, when do you use a 6th gear? Which gears would I not bother to use? When would I change gear? Could anyone who has one of these machines advise me, please? Many thanks in advance. P.S. I have been driving since before a lot of you were born and also hold a medium rigid licence. (I rarely use the 6 gears on heavier vehicles, though it depends on load and conditions.) So, you might just have to use old fashioned vocabulary.
  8. Yes, it is called callistemon. The nectar eating birds, such as lorikeets flock to it when in bloom. My budgies and cockatiels strip everything off it until there is a little shredded twig remaining - which is why, if you do manage to get a plant, you should never put the pot with the whole plant in their cage. They will kill it. If you plant the bush outside, it should grow big.
  9. I forgot to mention - 'Pet Emergency' never closes. They charge regular, reasonable vet fees and then add a special fee for whatever strange hour or public holiday it is.
  10. Yes, you can get help at a clinic called 'Pet Emergency'. It is in Albany Creek. The numbers are 3359 0777 and 3359 5333. They are not avian specialists but I know for a fact that they phone an avian vet when they are not sure what to do. I visited once on Christmas Day. On another occasion, they phoned an avian vet after hours. He phoned me and then prescribed a medication via a nearby clinic which dispensed it to me.
  11. Those budgies are adorable!! Yes, ultraOx, I noticed he left a budgie in the cage, too. I wonder why. Would it be a big old cock who keeps the others calm while travelling or what?
  12. But if there were pink budgies, there would be some back pedalling about the Pet Paradise thread.
  13. Just one small thing. I'd remove that plastic peg and use a wooden one. If your birds get to work on the plastic one, it could splinter and cause injury.
  14. Oh, nooooo!! I am sooo sorry. Those little moppets were so beautiful.
  15. Congratulations. That is a great photo!
  16. How about you get another budgie?
  17. Your photo is still there.
  18. I saw something very similar in Petbarn in Brisbane. It cost about $80. It was meant for cats. There was a little raised mound in the centre of the pool and I thought that my birds would love to jump in and out of the water. That was until I realised that any poop would end up blocking the filtration system. There were no accessories.
  19. Oh great! I hope it helps with the weight problem.
  20. It's a pottery pot If I'm not mistaken. And if you say it's not I am really shaken.
  21. It should not be aloud.

That is very worrying, Kaz. It was an extremely brazen act. The perpetrators were probably nearby when you went outside. Do you know an electrician or a farmer? Those special fences really hurt.
  23. The various pet stores have a whole range of pellets. I live a long way from the vet and so get my pellets at pet stores. I think most people would just get them from where it is most convenient.
  24. I gave him seeds the whole time but very gradually reduced them. One day, he just started eating the pellets. He still gets a few dry seeds or sprouted seeds every day. But he has to come to my hand to get them. Interestingly, the hen he lives with, and who went straight onto pellets, is fat as butter. The vet spoke to me about her rotten diet. I told him she gets what her mate does. She gets fewer seeds than he does because she won't come to me. I just give her some to eat while he is with me.They are both very keen on vegies.
